Hello I'm thinking of buying a Hayley album for an ex-teacher as a gift, but I don't know which one to get! She's vaguely heard of Hayley, and has one or two songs from other artists' cds, I think. I was contemplating between Treasure and Odyssey. Well actually, now I'm quite torn; Across The Universe Of Time from Pure just came on iTunes shuffle. Oh dear. And the HSJS albums are so beautiful too. Help, please? Which album do you think would be the best to introduce someone to Hayley's music with? Thanks! cheers, Joanne

Hi Joanne For someone who is not that familiar with Hayley I would recommend "River of Dreams". This cd is essentially the "Best of" Hayley's recordings compiled onto one album and contains material from all three International albums (Pure, Odyssey and Treasure) plus a few extra recordings.
Best wishes Martin

Agree with Martin, it was my first Hayley album and it has many of her great songs... Even more, if you can pay, I highly recommend the NZ Special Edition, as it has some more tracks plus an bonus CD with even more tracks, and most of those added tracks are truly worth it if you don't have the previous albums. Also, when I bought it it was surprisngly cheap, even with the delivery cost, I had it for the price of around 17€ if I don't remember wrong.

I would personally go for 'Pure' as it's such a diverse album, but if you are introducing Hayley to somebody, then I would have to agree with what has already been said. Compilation albums are released for this purpose. Though River of Dreams excludes Dark Waltz which has always baffled me.

Ohh! I completely forgot about River of Dreams! Haha thanks so much! Hmm I don't think I could find an NZ special edition in time, but thanks for the heads up!

Hmm.. who knows... I think it took around 2 weeks to get here, to Spain from NZ...But Singapore is way closer, so it may be shorter. I bought it from the amplier website, a NZ music website. Here's a link, in case you want to try: www.amplifier.co.nz/release/42685/river-of-dreams-the-best-of.htmlOh, and NZD are less than USD. 28,85 NZD = 16,42€ = 21,04$ (USD) Michal

Haha touche about the shipping time. Ooh, tempting! And NZD is just about equivalent to SGD right now. But I just blew a chunk of money on Hayley's biographies (or autobiographies, I'm not sure which) + shipping :/ I think my teacher would appreciate the regular River of Dreams too. Thanks very much, Michal!
cheers, Joanne

The NZ album has God Defend NZ, and some extra tracks from Treasure, like Santa Lucia, I think. I would've bought that one if I'd waited long enough to see that it was the better one.

One thing I would say about River Of Dreams: no Dark Waltz. To my mind, if you really want to convince someone to be a Hayley fan, that's the best song to start with. Anyone whose jaw is not on the floor after that will never be a fan; anyone whose jaw IS on the floor will likely never stop being a fan. It's just that good. For that reason and no other, I would start with Pure. It wasn't the fastest selling Classical debut of the 20th century in Britain for nothing, after all

Hi Elliot, That's so true I was rueing (sp?) the lack of Dark Waltz after I'd made my purchase. Oh well. Maybe RoD will be a stepping stone of sorts. My teacher might eventually stumble upon Dark Waltz and wonder why it wasn't on Hayley's "Best Of" album. Thanks! cheers, Joanne

Hayley said Dark Waltz was her favourite from Pure too. It just ... baffles me. Why it wasn't included. It's always on the top of her Last.fm charts, too. For me, it's easily one of her best songs. 'I'm Kissing You' is my personal favourite, but on a wider appeal, Dark Waltz is very special.

Hi Elliot, I have to disagree on that one...cause when I first heard Dark Waltz, I wasn't convinced yet ... I had to get to know Hayley through her other songs. I am quite a pop music kind of person, so I was a little impatient to listen to songs like Dark Waltz. (I don't really consider Dark Waltz as a pop song) NOW though, I'm a huge fan AND I LOVE Dark Waltz.... To wrap this up, even though I didn't instantly liked Dark Waltz (My jaw was still attached i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gif) I still did became a huge fan! And still am! It all depends on taste I suppose Sharon

I think a lot of fans were disappointed about Dark Waltz not being included. I for one think it should've been there instead of Never Say Goodbye. It's a nice song, but not very exciting. But Hayley said in the RoD package on her website, that she chose it because she hadn't been crazy about it at first, but eventually grew attached to it because she was able to relate to it, being away from family so much. So it sounds like she was very much involved in the song selection of the album. Which it makes it that much more baffling why she didn't use it, if she likes it so much. I've also wished they'd used the Vocalise version of Pokarekare Ana, but I guess it was because it was a bonus track. Yes, Dark Waltz is definitely one of the best (if not the best) songs for drawing Hayley fans. The time it was used on America's So You think you can Dance show 2 years ago, people loved it. One guy on the show's forum said he loved it from the first note, and that "I'm buying this whole CD!"

Yes, Hayley told me that! I assume it's one of the reasons why it's always topping the Last.fm chart, since it's the only song American's were given on a mainstream level.

She told you about it being on the dance show, or just that it's popular in America? Or that the guy wanted to buy her whole CD? :rollin
