I was just saying what other people would say. A lot of people complain about Christmas music when it's not quite Christmas time, no matter who the singer is. I wasn't saying nobody should listen to Winter Magic.

I hadn't even read your post, Libby! MY reply had nothing to do with what you said, I just meant it in general. Listening to Chrismas music in June would raise a few eye brows! XD

Not mine though. Most of Christmas music are very beautiful songs, so I treat them as that when it's not Christmas. Silent Night is one of my favorite songs I can play on my organ, and I won't stop myself from doing so, no matter what month it is.

And me, I've made the effort and put Winter Magic away, Noooooo!!! Following Nicola's earlier comment, I played "WinterMagic" yesterday i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gifDon't agree Martin!! Whatever else Hayley brings out, there will always be a place for "Winter Magic" Best wishes Grant

Well, I have played HSJS 1 and 2 (twice each), Prayer and Oddysey in the last week. My brother, who was with Sue and I on Islay, doesn't "get" Hayley, but even he had to admit that Quanta Qualia is beautiful. Didn't think I could get away with Winter Magic, although I did have my UK version with me.

Sharon, Yeah, I guess someone who's main taste is in Pop would not necessarily warm to Dark Waltz immediately. Stuff like 'Both Sides Now' and 'Wuthering Heights' probably worked better for you? She's cunning, that Hayley! Gets us all in the end! (Have to admit, I love her version of 'Both Sides Now' and it was my favourite Hayley song for a while... until I heard Dark Waltz!

Indeed, Wuthering Heights was my first favourite, though Both Sides Now came in third (in my personal chart i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gif) Cause second was 'Who Painted the Moon Black'. Dark Waltz is truely one of my favourites now. Like most other songs. Though songs like 'Eva Maria' will probably not be one of my favourites, perhaps a bit too much for me. I don't know how many songs Halyey has sung, but I know that I like at least 95% of all songs... Sharon

I think my first Hayley favourites were Both Sides Now, which Hayley gives a wistfulness I love, Dark Waltz which is.. indescribable! and Mists Of Islay, which is just hauntingly beautiful. Honestly though, as long as she's exercising those awesome lungs of hers, it's all good from my POV. Pretty sure I'm in the 95% liking bracket, too

I'm in the 100% liking bracket. There is no song that Hayley has ever recorded that I don't like.
Well, not quite true. "Wuthering Heights" was just about the only Kate Bush recording that I didn't like, and I always hated "Mother of Mine" with a passion - just too cheesy for words.
Until I heard Hayley sing them that is. Hayley can take a song I detest and make me love it. Now that really does take talent!

She's cunning, that Hayley! Gets us all in the end! Yep, that's definitely true. I only used to really like Who Painted the Moon Black and Dark Waltz, but songs like In Trutina bored me slightly. But when I heard clips from Odyssey, I thought all the songs were beautiful. When you become a Hayley fan, you like some songs, and then gradually you like more and more until you like anything she sings at all. My sister used to call Hayley's singing "screaming", although she also liked Moon Black and Amazing Grace. When she heard Pie Jesu on youtube, she was at least kind of enough to call it "pretty screaming". Now, she really likes Summer Rain, Shenandoah, Scarborough Fair, Whispering Hope, May it Be, You Are Water, and Prayer. She loves to hear Hayley singing her line in The Sky and the Dawn and the Sun. She even has her own copy of Celtic Treasure now! She didn't used to like Danny Boy or Sonny that much, but she just told me that she's been listening to those songs more. It seems she's on the verge of liking them.

That is really true!!! Same here! I never thought she was 'screaming' though haha! Though my brother thinks this kind of music sounds like 'Enya' and a little too 'up in the air' for him. Though I think he'd loved it if he'd listened to it more often...

Well, my sister used to have a low tolerance for high-pitched singing, but she's grown to enjoy Hayley's singing, after all, and also enjoys Celtic Woman somewhat. She has even attended 2 CW concerts with me, and shares my wish to see Hayley in concert. She wishes we could've seen Hayley with CW in Seattle, as do I.
I wouldn't say that Hayley's music is all that much like Enya's. The intro to Summer Rain does resemble Enya's music, because of the instrument.

Well, my sister used to have a low tolerance for high-pitched singing, Yes, I noticed that when you said the songs she liked and disliked, xD. Well, the thing about Hayley is that she has proven to be able to sing comfortably and sounding great in any part of her wide range. Bach/Gounod's Ave Maria from River of Dreams is sung much higher than the original was written for, but it sounds absolutely amazing, the high notes sound so magnificent. But then, her lower register, as in Un Giorno per Noi, is so amazing defined and pretty too! Hmm... And for me, I would say 99%, although right now, I can't think of a song htat I dislike, xD. Michal

I'm sticking with 95%, personally. I am not keen on Winter Magic at all. Hayley's amazing voice has so little to really work with that even she can't impress me on a Xmas album. You can put it down to the general Brit cynicism about Xmas albums, if you like!
