I am having a huge obsession with WSS story at the moment which is really crazy/scary, haha. I would love it if someone could make a recording since I can't listen on Friday because that's when my Sabbath starts. So if anyone records it, please post it here!! Thanks!! natasha xxxxx

...I would love it if someone could make a recording since I can't listen on Friday... Hi Natasha, You are not alone... Hayley told me she can't listen to it either, because she will be singing at a concert in Scotland on Friday evening! I shall be recording the concert and posting Hayley's involvement in it on the main site, also in the forum, on Friday evening or night. The concert will also be available on the BBC website for one week afterwards - but I don't know if you can listen to it outside the UK. One of my posts will be downloadable... and at a higher quality than the BBC website version. There is no escape for me... on Monday, I assured both Steve Abbott and Hayley herself that the recording would go up on the HWI website on Friday night! Cheers, Dave

Hello Dave! You should include Michael Xavier's version of 'Maria' in the recording. His voice is very different from Vittorio Grigolo's, but he sang very well. Best Wishes, Richard

Best Wishes, Richard Hi Richard, We can't of course post entire programmes or even most of them - but as always, I'll see what I think we can get away with. Quite a lot, usually! i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gif That hard-to-sing song with funny words from part 1 , by the two other female singers, may be of interest too; also America. We shall see... Cheers, Dave

Thank you very much, Dave. For a moment, I thought I would have to watch the rugby match France-Ireland without sound, or rather with the sound of 'Friday Night is Music Night' Having said that, Richard pointed out that it would be available on the BBC website afterwards and I do remember that it worked even when I was in France so it should be online for everyone no matter where you are based. However, I suggest you wait for Dave's recording because what he uploads is ALWAYS of better quality. Stephany

Thanks from me too Dave. Are you saying that a direct "live" recording on the Friday is better quality wise than the "listen again" version??
Or do you mean that a recording from your own FM radio receiver gives a superior quality to both those mentioned above???
I'm really curious about that.
I have every intention of recording the performance of the "live" stream off the BBC site which means getting up at 4.30 am. our time here.
Graeme

Thanks from me too Dave. Are you saying that a direct "live" recording on the Friday is better quality wise than the "listen again" version??... Hi Graeme, Yes, it's down to the audio compression. The BBC streams audiio at, I think, around 40 kbps and because it's streamed, it will be one-pass encoded and fixed bit-rate. They also use high frequency filtering and probably lots of dynamic compression too - so theres will sound duller and with less difference between the loud and quiet bits, when listening on a good quality sound system. It's a bit like the difference between AM radio (BBC streaming) and FM radio (live FM or digital broadcasts). I usually record the actual broadcasts twice; direct from a high quality FM tuner to my computer at CD quality ; and digitally in my Sky+ receiver/recorder from a digital broadcast, these vary between 128 kbps and 192 kbps so similar to or better than iTunes quality. In both cases, to keep the file size down, I then copy/re-encode whichever turns out best at 64 or 128 kbps for music - but using two-pass variable bit-rate encoding, which is superior to the method used in most internet streaming (for any given bitrate). The BBC do have one advantage though, they have access to the original recording - but even so, my 64kbps and 128 kbps files for Friday Night is Music Night should sound noticeably brighter and more natural than any 40kbps internet stream. Cheers, Dave PS do record it yourself because the BBC will post the entire concert, whereas I daren't really do that - it will be all of Hayley and two or three of the best of the rest. Requests are welcome (Richard's has been noted - Maria )

Hello again folks! If you want to listen to this evening's show via the Internet, here's the link: www.bbc.co.uk/radio2/shows/fridaynight/The broadcast begins at 7:30pm British Summer Time, and Real Player is required. You should be able to listen to the complete programme again at any time during the next seven days. Richard

Good morning Richard, Thank you for the reminder. I will be listening to the first part because the rugby match I want to see only starts at 8pm. I'm very curious to discover Mr Bernstein's other work (although Hayley isn't featured in it!). Should be interesting to see what he has done other than West Side Story. Stephany

Hello again folks! The full playlist for tonight's show has now been published at BBC.co.uk, but a few details are incorrect. Here is the amended playlist, with Hayley's songs shown in red to match her dress! i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gifRichard

If you're into West Side Story itself, rather than just Hayley, don't forget that there's An Evening of West Side Story on BBC Radio 2, starting in 15 minutes time at 7pm BST (6pm GMT). Full details of the three programmes are here at the BBC where you can find some interesting information and links, including a link to the BBC Internet player if you want to listen live. They should all be available for a week afterwards, as usual. Richard you will be glad to know that the above page does seem to have the correct cast list! Cheers, Dave

I just listened to 'Somewhere'...wow. I found the pronounciation of 'Somehow' and 'Somewhere' a bit strange, though. The singer who plays Tony is very good, I really loved his 'Maria'. Stephany PS: half-time of the rugby match, 12-3 for France

Hi Stephany And don't you think that "Tonight" was just fantastic and suited Hayley's voice perfectly?
