West Side Story’s 50th anniversary will be marked by BBC Radio 2 with an evening of programmes featuring performers from the film and stage versions of the show.

Among those lined up to take part in the celebrations on Friday, September 21 is Chita Rivera, who played the role of Anita in the original Broadway production.

The first programme features new interviews with composer Leonard Bernstein’s daughters. This will be followed by a special Friday Night is Music Night celebrating Bernstein’s work, starring Hayley Westenra and Michael Xavier.

[/color] The final programme in the line-up is From West Side to Worldwide, hosted by John Barrowman.
