The new Classical Crossover Compilation album is now released and is being shipped.
Obtainable from www.classical-crossover.co.uk
My copy came whilst I was in San Francisco, so I've only just got to play it. I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Hayley's influence on the genre is there for all to see, with two covers of songs we all associate with Hayley. They are both a bit different however, so although neither artist has a voice that comes close to Hayley's somehow this doesn't seem to matter.
If it is voices you want I sugest checking out Linda Tolchard (Track 8) and Taylor Caruso Kirk (Track 16)
The album is very heavy on female vocalists and leans very heavily towards the pop side of classical crossover in my opinion. I suspect that this is a reflection of Nicola's taste, and none the worse for that.
It also showcases some up and coming and relatively unknown artists. But don't worry, the music is first class, and I was never bored or wanted to turn off or skip any of the tracks.
What I want to say is that I thoroughly recommend this album. If you don't already have a copy get it. Note that there are a limited number of copies available, so get yours while there are still some left.
I would like to have seen something by Annalies though. Perhaps that would have reducied the bias towards the pop wnd of the spectrum Annalies is a young singer I rate very highly. If you visit her website you will hear a beautiful version of Caccini's Ave Maria - perhaps not quite up to Hayley's version, it lacks Hayley's easy confidence, but any singer who can make a decent fist of that song has to be taken seriously in my opinion.
