Dear Hayley-fans,
Next Tuesday (2006-MAY-02) you can see Hayley at german TV-station Südwestfunk (SWR). She show is called “Kaffee oder Tee” and it will run between 5:05 p.m. und 6:00 p.m. The report about Hayley will be about 5:50 p. m. probably. Hayley will sing the song “Both Sides Now”, but I’m not sure if she will sing live by herself or if it is the known video clip “Both Sides Now” only.
Regards, Lothar

Thank you Lothar,
And it is possible i may be able to receive this TV station on the Astra satellite but the nearest I can find is listed as "SR Fernsehen SÜDWEST".
Do you know if this is the same TV station as Südwestfunk (SWR)?
I would like to know this to avoid wasting time setting up my second satellite dish if it's the wrong station!
Thank you!
Dave

I finally got round to registering for HWI having switched between the two sites any number of times. I was going to answer your question Dave but Cinderella beat me to it. SWR stands for SüdWestRundfunk & therefore answers your query. The Germans drop the 'Rund' off just as we do to english words. 'Funk' actually means spark so radio is 'round spark' Does that make sense? Graeme

Yes it does make sense Graeme, thanks! And welcome to HWI, I look forward to reading your contributions Thanks also to Cinderella (and your friend!); a big welcome to you, too! I now hope to record Hayley's appearance but I can't yet guarantee it as the dish needs re-connecting first. I can hopefully upload any interview for everyone to see. I don't think Hayley speaks enough German to conduct an entire interview in that language - so hopefully, non-German speakers will be able to follow it too! Cheers, Dave

another new bright spark ...
"Funker" is a radio operator, and "Funken" is spark: seems graeme is fulltime radio and german amateur? SWR is south-west-broadcasting ... because it's in german south west, north of south africa ...close to desser namib ... biggest cities: Windhoek and Stuttgart. thanks cinderella (my great-grandfather settled down to africa 1875)

Hello everyone, I did record "Kaffee oder Tee" including the segment about Hayley. But unfortunately for me, I speak very little German so there's a lot of guesswork in what follows - I hope that you Lothar (or another of our friends from Germany) watched it! This was a 6 or 7 minute studio discussion about Hayley between the presenter and the station's music expert Frank Laufenberg, with a 40 second clip from Hayley's Both Sides Now" video in the middle. This seems to be a regular weekly 10 minute slot about new CD releases and this time, most of it was about Hayley and Odyssey. Many close-ups of the album cover were shown and I heard him mention the bonus 4-track DVD that is included. There was the usual potted biography of Hayley, where she is from etc., and he mentioned the Pure release in 2003 and how well it did in the charts, including top ten in the UK. Also, the type of music Hayley sings (classical and pop) and I'd love to know exactly what they said about Hayley and the classical charts, just after he mentioned the New York Times. There was a little phone-in quiz in the middle asking (I think) what's special about the Kiwi bird (I assume that *we* all know that...) I thought I heard the studio presenter describe Hayley as a "good looker" just after the video! Can anyone confirm it? They also talked a bit about the Il Divo tour. I'm sure I've missed lots of it out and I certainly didn't understand any of the details - or what they were laughing about at various points (help, I need to know! i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gif ) So, even though Hayley wasn't on "live" and only a short video clip was shown, I think this would have been very good publicity for Hayley in the area covered by the TV station. If anyone would like to see the interview (conducted entirely in German) let me know and I'll post a windows media file of it, hopefully later this evening. Cheers, Dave

Hi Dave, hi all,
of course I was watching and recording this report and discussion. I was very annoyed about this report, because it was investigate very superficial. Next day I can make a translation for you, but at first I have to prepare my report about Hayley’s concert in Berlin.
Many greetings, Lothar

Hi Dave, This is just an 'expression of interest' in that 'Kaffee oder Tee' .wmv I know you're busy but I don't want it to slide down the priority list. Graeme

Thanks again Dave, Looking forward to it. When I lived in Hamburg Germany (for 3 years) I remember adding up roughly the number of German language speakers & also those who understand German by way of related languages. It was ~ 117 mill. direct speakers & I don't remember a figure for the Dutch, Danes, Belgians, border French, French Swiss , Skandinavians, Czech's.,Border Poles ie. a huge number could be listening to that TV show with full understanding. Lothar, I'm sure, can correct my figures on that!! I remember being quite surprised at the time. I've heard Hayley give a little German introductory talk on a German TV & her pronunciation was smack on!! Graeme
