I am disappointed of course.....
Having said that, if I had known a month ago that she would be the runner up, I would have been ecstatic. I agree with you in part Steve. Jackie went with a "safe" choice when she really had nothing to lose by trying to go deep again. But I dint think that is what did her in.
A large number of well intentioned people simply couldn't get their minds around a 10 year old playing Vegas (one show notwithstanding) - and I think that many of them simply tapped into the sort of larger angst that Dave (and to some degree many of us) have about the way such earkt could upend the rest of her childhood
Ironically of course, once she reached the finals, there was nothing that was going to stop that from happening anyway. There is nothing I can see that will keep her from being the next Susan Boyle or Faryl Smith. Correct me if I am wrong, but Faryl didnt even make the finals did she? Doesn't seem to have hurt her that much.
Jackie BTW is scheduled to be on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno on Thursday Sept 23
Jon
PS - What was up with Sarah Brightman?

Hi Jon, I can''t remember if Faryl was in the final, but I think she placed 4th in BGT '08. I am very proud of Jackie and what she will become. Placing second is no small matter and one trembles to think of how her voice will grow. Did you see how big Jackie's eyes were when Sarah Brightman got out of the car? I really liked the duet of 'Con Te Patiro"...but Sarah's voice seemed to be tired and had an unnatural vibrato about it. Jackie's voice had to really work to carry the duet along. See what y'all think when you watch later. Just wanted to add that there was NO sign of disappointment on Jackie's face; no tears. That strong smile still beamed Congrats Jackie as with Connie Talbot, second place but first in our hearts !!

You could drive a truck through that vibrato - and yes, I had the odd feeling that Jackie was carrying her....I hope that isnt serious

Wow ! Jackie was spectacular, although I prefer the song at a slower pace. seemed to be a bit of "mirror, mirror on the wall" going on,

Steve, they're called Fighting Gravity, not Defying Gravity. I guess it means pretty much the same thing. i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gifSarah's voice definitely wasn't smooth, and it looked (the way she moved her head) and sounded like it was difficult for her to sing. I learned from Nicola that she has nodules, so that is the reason she's not as good anymore. However, she sounded great when she sang Canto Della Terra with Andrea Bocellia at the CBA 2008.

I was worried Sarah wasn't going to perform well. She doesn't seem to be doing so over the past few years. I haven't watched it yet, but I hope it's not as bad as her duet with Josh Groban at the Diana concert...

Hi Nicola, Now that you mention it, I do remember the Diana concert and wondering the same thing about Sarah. One of the issues with advancing mddle age is that my memory doesnt work like it used to. IMHO Jackie was the better of the two this night - and I am pretty sure that Jackie wasnt really expecting to have to carry the mail. I am genuinely worried about Sarah's future - and hope that Jackie can continue to take all of this in stride

I don't think they'll have Hayley, there is no money for Simon Cowell in promoting another record company's artists. Martin D Sarah Brightman records for EMI I believe. Sarah is on her own label she set up called Angel Records, but it's signed under EMI. Just watched the video. It was actually okay, I thought Sarah was quite good considering how she's been lately. I was worried about the song choice, but they missed out the wordy introduction of Time To Say Goodbye and went straight to the second half of the first verse. A lot better for Jackie. Sorry to hear she didn't win, but she didn't need to, really.

I will bow to superior knowledge Nicola I do know my personal preference is a lot less vibrato than she was displaying - and I dont remember her having that much in the past. Thanks for the clarification of Sarah's record label. I just thought it important to point out that she had little or nothing to do with any Simon Cowell product One more point and then I will shut up for a while I think. Jackie's reaction to the final decision was really a class act. Jon

There's no need to be. She has adapted her material her new abilities, and she can perform them live. Every now and again she has to go back and do her older material, but it's rare, and she does just about enough.
Lots of controversy in Sarah's fanbase about her lip-synching bits and pieces of the more difficult parts in her concerts these days, but camp Brightman outrightly deny it. I don't know the truth, nor do I care, really.

I think it doesn't seem so bad to me as it does to everyone else because if you're not a fan, you probably haven't followed how her voice has changed and developed. I wish it could be back to way it was in the mid-nineties, but that's age and vocal damage for you. I noticed Sarah said 'save it and preserve it' to Jackie. Probably from her own experience. But Sarah's were damaged in 2003, so she had a good career with those pipes. Of course, it's what she is now known for, so people are shocked to hear the difference.
I hope no resident Sarah Brightman fans come along to this thread. They will kill me for saying all this (you can't be saying any of this on her forums, no, no). Disclaimer: my opinion, lol.
I've never been big on Sarah's voice itself (apart from mid-nineties), so that's never been what she's about to me. I'm a fan of her creativity and innovation - to understand the full scope of what she has achieved, I think one has to know her career very well.

Can you explain what the problem was? Why was it locked?
This doesn't explain much:
Since this is a Jackie thread in the other artists sub-forum.

Hello Nicola,
Several members have expressed concern that Jackie seems to be taking over the forum. Hopefully the discussion will subside now America's Got Talent is finished.
