OMG, 29 replies already. Sandy, you're brilliant. Er, sorry folks, the intended title was 'The Chat Thread' and not 'That Chat Thread'. The That will teach me to proof read my own typing! Combining two earlier suggestions, perhaps 'Special Sandy's Special Thread' would have been more appropriate! I'll get the hang of this job one day! Roger

Yes, Jono, Let's rename the thread: ' Sandy's Special Thread'. Or perhaps that should be ' Special Sandy Thread'? Or the ' Hey Thread' Paddy Hahaha that's brilliant! Poor modest Sandy Reminds me of a poem I like, The Violet: Down in a green and shady bed, A modest violet grew; Its stalk was bent, it hung its head As if to hide from view. And yet it was a lovely flower, Its colour bright and fair; It might have graced a rosy bower, Instead of hiding there. Yet thus it was content to bloom, In modest tints arrayed; And there diffused a sweet perfume, Within the silent shade. Then let me to the valley go This pretty flower to see; That I may also learn to grow In sweet humility. Great! Can't be off topic in this thread!!!!!

Cool poem Paddy! I'm not an expert of literature, but at least I could understand this one! We should rename it "The Sandy Poem" You went against the stereotypical Irish bloke speaking in Limericks!! I'm also loving this thread....this has by far been my most active day on the forum! And I am oh so close to becoming a Full Member. Oh the Joy. Jono

The poem was written in the 19th century by Jane Taylor. 'Stereotypical' Irish exist only in the minds of people who are not Irish. Otherwise, we're normal. Paddy

'Stage Irish' jokes aint funny though! Anyway, talking of stereotypes, here's another poem by the same author. And we'd better not rename this one after anyone!!!!!! The Poppy High on a bright and sunny bed A scarlet poppy grew And up it held its staring head, And thrust it full in view. Yet no attention did it win, By all these efforts made, And less unwelcome had it been In some retired shade. Although within its scarlet breast No sweet perfume was found, It seemed to think itself the best Of all the flowers round, From this I may a hint obtain And take great care indeed, Lest I appear as pert and vain As does this gaudy weed.

Another cool poem.
I wonder if she wrote it at the same time? As an opposite to "Sandy"
