Hi folks Iv been reading some of these comments on this thread with interest and am tempted to buy one of Swift's albums. Would anyone recommend an album - I've had a look on Play.com and there are 2 albums listed, one being self titled and the other called 'Fearless'. Any suggestions? Cheers Ben Ben: Both of her albums are equally worthwhile, because they are each essentially “greatest hits” collections. That may sound like hyperbole, but if you like her music you will soon realize that there is hardly a bad track on either album. They’re simply loaded. Not surprising since she reportedly selected from over 500 songs that she composed by the time she turned 18. Just a little creative. You will probably find the first album – entitled “Taylor Swift” – to be more traditionally “country.” The second album, “Fearless,” is a bit more pop/country crossover. So if you want to choose one, maybe that will help. It’s cool following Elliot and Sharon’s exchange, most of which I agree with entirely. I was lucky to discover Taylor early on when she was just 16, so watching new fans come on board is a lot of fun. I also agree with Comet that Sharon’s English requires no apologies. And she has great taste in music.

Hi Folks, I wish you would discuss Taylor S. on her website. She is just another country singer here in the U S and I don't think she belongs on the same level as Hayley. Ergo why not confine your loquacious comments to her website where I'm sure many would be interested in your comments. Please don't take this comment as a put down. That's not what I intended it to be. I think at falls into the off topic category. I respect anyones taste in music; however I just can't seem to find any talent in Taylor. I think she is a strikingly pretty young girl that has found a niche in the Country/Western music genre.

Larry
Taylor has had multiple hits that she has written herself - unless I missed something big, this is something that Hayley has come no where near accomplishing. The ability to write commercially successful material is a talent whether your name is Swift or Mozart.
She is clearly more than just another country and western singer - she has somehow managed to tap into the zeitgeist of her age - the hopes and fears of her peers, who just so happen to buy a whole lot of records.
Given their respective ages (and also to some extent their images) it isnt surprising at all that they have some fans in common. In fact, in my opinion, if Hayley were to ever actually gain traction in the US it would be largely the same (female but slightly older) demographic.

Honestly Larry, I just don’t understand why you repeatedly insert yourself into the discussion of an artist you hate. Did Taylor steal your parking spot or something?
I wish you could open your mind just a little, but I gave up long ago trying to convince you of Taylor’s talent. That said, I think you’re being a little presumptuous telling a group of posters on an artist-specific thread to take their conversation elsewhere. If the administrators or moderators feel Taylor doesn’t belong here, I’m sure they’ll say so. In the meantime, maybe you can tell us how much value we should place on the apology you offered back on page 2 of this thread.

In the ever-baffling riddle of Hayley’s success in the States, these same young women could be essential. Some of them have already discovered her on YouTube. Now if only her label would take notice.

If the administrators or moderators feel Taylor doesn’t belong here, I’m sure they’ll say so. Well it doesn't only relate to the type of music, although that is a factor. Here are the guidelines we posted some time ago: Members who support other musicians or singers of the same general type as Hayley are welcome to discuss them in the Other Music board, but their membership should not be used exclusively or excessively to promote or advertise them. Taylor Swift is a bit further from Hayley's style than most others in the Other Music board but we have allowed it and general discussion about her is OK as long as it isn't excessive (in relation to the members' contributions to Hayley threads) and as long as all posts are constructive. Without mentioning any names, not all the posts above are entirely constructive so let's all be careful from now on, please. Dave

As a student of the classical era composers I am completely aghast to see the names of Mozart and Swift juxtaposed in any manner. Commercial success was not the prime consideration of the likes of Mozart and his contemporaries. They primarily wrote for the church or royalty. This is not the case with Taylor or any other popular or country artist today. I can take criticisms for my opinion; but lets keep it in the realm of reality. I have opened a can of worms that I am now closings forever.

I never said I hated Taylor. To the contrary if you look back over my posts you will find I have complimented her. However I still think in my opinion that this thread should be limited to singers of Hayley's genre. If Hayley ever sings country and I don't think it would be out of the realm of the possible. I would change my point of view. I would be extremely delighted for Hayley to adapt to any style to make inroads into the U S. Oh, by the way Hayley never stole my parking spot --just my heart.

Hi Dave, I hope you weren't referring to me. The last thing I want to do is to cerate a controversy. However I think Roger has echoed my concerns. Perhaps I may become a little abrasive with some but that is not my intention.

Hi Ben... I'd go with Fearless, which is her second album and has more tracks solo written by her on it. Though she co-writes or solo writes everything on both albums, I prefer Fearless anyway. Maybe because it's a bit less Country. If you want the genuine Taylor sound, though, import the US version of her album from the States, as the British/international release is NOT the same. They've de-Countrified it the way Shania Twain always did with her international albums. It might also be worth waiting a month or two, as a special edition of Fearless is on the way with six new songs. Holding out for that will probably be worth it. If you do get the first (Self titled) album, get the deluxe version. More songs *** Sharon... I have to admit I don't really have any words to describe Faryl's voice that are better than the ones you use! Although I am rather fond of Ellen DeGeneres' description, which runs, in tones of utter amazement: "Thirteen! Thirteen!" I'm not sure she really has an opera voice as such, but then who knows how she'll develop it? I did feel a bit sorry for Katherine Jenkins when the two of them were duetting, though, as while Katherine is the bigger star right now, there was no doubt in my mind that Faryl already has the better voice. Even so, I think it reflects really well on Katherine as a person that she's taken Faryl under her wing and mentors her. I truly admire Katherine for that. As for Charlotte Church - one of the most over-rated singers in recent history, IMO. I preferred her when she went Pop. Her voice could handle that. The other stuff... No. She's certainly no Hayley. I hate most opera singers. Even worse than I hate most Country singers, which is really going some! I do like Mario Lanza and Paul Potts, but both have truly exceptional voices. *** Comet... Taylor won't blow you away or make your jaw drop the way Hayley does (Literally in my case, the first time I heard her. The jaw drop part, at least! ) but she probably will sneak up on you. She has a very pleasant sound

I'l do as you suggested and wait a month or 2 for the special edition. Is there an official release date? Cheers Ben P.S Thanks to others who advised me on what to buy!

I turned my back for only 1 day, and suddenly there are many many more messages in here then I expected.... Also some messages which I will not reply to... Just a matter of opinion which I respect. And thank you comet and socialboy for the compliments... I guess Dutch is even harder for you guys to learn.. I already have few grammer problems with Dutch... I got Taylor's album 'Fearless' which I really like. I bought it cause there were more songs on which I liked, otherwise it would be a big waste of money to buy a CD with only 2 or 3 numbers I like... I have a personal rule; If I like more then at least 5 or 6 numbers on a CD, then I consider buying it. i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gifBut let's not advertise about Taylor, is against the rules i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gifI now consider buying one of Hayley's Cd's or the DVD. Although I already downloaded as much songs as on 2 CD's. And I really have to get used to classical singers like Katherine Jenkins...very different voices which I respect, but my ears think otherwise... Anyway, I'm glad that there are more Taylor, as well as Hayley fans. It's great to talk about subjects which can not to be discussed with family members or friends. Sharon

Again I find myself apologizing to the Taylor Swift fans. I am going to buy her album and listen to it several times. I think I must be missing something. And I did not mean that as sarcasm. I know many of her fans are also Hayley's fans. So I think perhaps the fact that I'm not a country fan has clouded my judgment. She seems to have a broad base of fans and that's great. So I won't criticize he anymore.

Hi Larry,
You don't have to apologize for a different taste and/or opinion.
And you don't have to spend your money on a CD which you never heard before...
Type in the name on Youtube and you can listen it for free.
I'm not a real country fan either, although I like some others, but not all.
Maybe you might like Taylor's music, or maybe not. You won't hear me judging...
Sharon
