Nevertheless I still think we should confine our comments to Hayley since this is her Forum. ... I hear you Larry. This forum is and always should be about Ms. Westenra. But we live in an imperfect world and other music than Hayley's exists. Perhaps Hayley can read a caution into my last post so as not to write songs by formula — not that she ever would, but someday the pressure may be on for her to crank out songs of her own in a more prolific way. With respect i disagree with your assessment that Taylor lacks talent and that she's being merchandised largely on her looks. She has skills telling personal stories and setting them to catchy music. I happen to enjoy her singing voice because it's sweet and unaffected. I can't imagine her singing anyone's songs but her own, whereas I have a hard time wrapping my mind around Hayley ever producing her own material to such an extent. But if she does, at least she'll know what pitfalls to avoid. Steve I think you missed my point. As I and others have said in the past what one thinks of Taylor's talent is a subjective view. I respect the fact that you like her and I don't. Some people like red cars and some like white ones. That doesn't mean either color is best. The reason I strongly disagree with so many posts for Taylor is that this is not a country forum.Mentioning another classical crossover singer ocassionaly is OK but to keep bringing up a non C/C singer in my opinion is not kosher. If Taylor has a forum I think the members would be much more appreciative with posts referring to Taylor than the members of Hayley's forum. Steve I'm not trying to make a big deal of this matter; and I respect you and your opinion. i hope the feeling is mutual. Incidentally I happen to like a lot of country music myself. As far as Hayley writing her own music I don't care if she does or doesn't. I really don't think she needs her own music to make her any better. Whatever she chooses to sing, in my opinion, is her own rendition. Hayley puts her own brand on anything she sings and she has the unique of making the music absolutely memorizing. Thus I think Hayley is incomparable to any other vocalist of any genre. Hayley is a superstar in the truest sense of the word. And Hayley certainly doesn't need catchy music . Hayley is a bonafide phenom. Regards Larry

Okay, Larry, now I see your wider point. Except of course, i reject the idea that Hayley is strictly Classical Crossover and that Taylor is strictly Country. Hayley has shown she has fine pipes for songs that are clearly Country, like "Summer Fly" and "Jolene", while Taylor has gone out of her way not to sound typically Country — which is actually what endears her to so many non-Country fans who, arguably, make up the majority of her fanbase.

Just as a by the by, I did actually start a topic on Hayley in Taylor's official forum. It got a very positive response, no negativity, and with a number of Taylor fans absolutely entranced by Hayley's voice. Worth noting also that Hayley herself follows Taylor on Twitter, from which one might infer that Hayley enjoys Taylor's music. A thing I am sure would surprise no-one, as Hayley seems to have a very broad taste. Just a couple of points to consider

Hi, lataly I've been moved by necessity (helping out my 11 year old cousin with digitalization of music) to listen to Taylor Swift, besides of course, her songs being played on a local music tv channel which I happen to watch ocassionally. And, in my opinion, she is quite good within the standards of commercial pop, if I listened to her all the time I would probably get tired of her, but otherwise I can enjoy her songs. As for her songwriting skills, well, they are certainly outstading for her age, but I keep my opinion that some of the recognitions mentioned here are overrating her.
Anyway, I can understand why Hayley has a good eception on Taylor's forum: Taylor has a kind of pretty voice, so I don't find it surprising that people who find her voice appealing, wouldn't love the most beautiful voice I've ever heard.

I've only recently been listening to Taylor Swift. The release of her new album (Red) has been all over the internet so I couldn't help but noticing it. I am really impressed that she writes her song. And I really love her fashion sense. My favorite song from Taylor's new album: Begin Again. It's poignant and beautiful. youtu.be/cMPEd8m79Hw

The worst song for me from the album for me is 'We are never ever getting back together' although it's the only one I've heard so far. Personally I find her songs far too monotonous both vocally and the lyrical subject matter.

Sonata, My favourites from RED are Starlight, Stay Stay Stay and Holy Ground. It's not her best album, IMO, but solid. *** Tasslehoff, No offence, but I really don't think you can have listened to much of her music if you find her monotonous in any regard. But then, you admitted that already

I prefer all three to Red, myself. I think she moved a little too far into the mainstream with Red. Normally she is a musical leader rather than a follower (IE the mainstream shifts for her, not the other way around) and I prefer her that way. There is a unique 'Taylor-ness' to her best songs that I really like.

Hopefully this year's release will be a return to form. But we shall see, I guess

Based on a little research it looks like it will be more pop-based like Red.
