I can take or leave Taylor in terms of her singing....her talent perse is not an issue however. I would ask one simple question. How many people in America have charted with their own material at age 16? Not too many. She certainly did Taylor her music to the right demographic, which resulted in her Swift rise to fame at 16.

Very good question, Milewalker. I'd bet not many people have charted anywhere in the world with their own material at that age.

So nice that there is a topic on Taylor Swift, although she does not fit in the genre of Classic/Celtic haha
I actually like Taylors music very much. Although it's a lot of 'fairytale' songs... But she said in an interview that she loves to write songs about princes on white horses and stuff like that...I guess she lives in her own fairytale world...well the real world ain't much fun all the time, so let her dream...

Sharon... I have pretty broad tastes, so I'm just as happy discussing Taylor as I am Gilbert & Sullivan or Hayley Westenra or a whole host of others across many genres. I figured I wouldn't be alone in being a fan of the amazingly talented Taylor She seemed like a good start to test people's liking for other genres. I wasn't sure a thread on Heavy Metal would go down quite so well Welcome to the HWI forum, BTW

Thank you Elliot!
I was surprised seeing a topic about her here...did not expect that! It is mostly all classical music here, and I have to say, I just don't know many Classical singers, like All Angels or Sissel... I'm just learning to know Hayley's music (and love it by the way)
I discovered Taylor in March this year, cause then her first song 'Love Story' was broadcasts on radio here in Netherlands... I started to 'dig' on the net and found lot's of more about her. Bought her CD 'Fearless' in April.
Heavy metal is not at all my thing, so I'm glad there's no topic about that (as far as I saw)
I just had a smal discussion with somebody here about the kind of people Hayley's music attracts...and we both figured out that it were all very nice people!

Sharon... I'm careful about the forums I join and my main criteria is that the people be nice and friendly. The vast majority of forums seem more like homes for Trolls. This one struck me as being one of the politest and most friendly I've seen, so yes, I agree with you Because my taste is so eclectic, I'm probably not all that deeply into any single genre of music, but most Classical singers leave me cold. They just don't seem to add anything to the song itself, if you get me. They're perfectly competent, don't get me wrong, but they are just lacking that special something that lifts them out of the ordinary. Hayley, of course, is different. She has the most extraordinary female voice I have ever heard. She and Faryl Smith are the only Classical singers I am currently interested in (Faryl being a 13 year old prodigy who may possibly be as good as Hayley one day. Maybe).. My 'talent bar' is considerably lower for singers in most other genres (Opera being the exception). Which is just as well, as I wouldn't listen to much if it wasn't! Taylor breaks the mould a bit, for me, because while she has a very pleasant voice her main and most impressive talent is probably as a songwriter. I love her songs and I think she's the most talented young person in music today (The which I am never tired of telling people ). The sort of broad spectrum talent she has in so many fields is beyond rare and combined with her very sweet personality... Well, I am (In a strictly musical sense!) utterly smitten

 Hi Elliot, I agree with you on many points... The only clasical music I have listend to was probanly an Anrdé Rieu CD which my dad got for his birthday years ago. And this is without any singing! André Rieu is a Dutch Violist and quite famous everywhere. But always enjoyed lovesongs mostly. But I am very picky if I have to call myself a 'fan' of some artist. If I only love 1 or 2 songs, I don't consider myself a fan. But with some artist, like Hayley & Taylor, I just got interested right away. In their songs and their way of performing. I love it when an artist really shows their love for their music and performing for their fans. I hate arrogancy. The loyalty for fans is something that is just so important if you want to continue for years in this bussines. And on forums indeed I only want to join if I'm sure that I can fit in or if their is not any nasty stuff going on. Like for instance. I'm a huge fan of the Mcleods Daughters series. So I joined a Dutch forum. But on these forum they were very harsh on someone who placed a message in a wrong topic. For example; Somebody once asked me something in a topic which was a bit off-topic. So I answered directly on that message in topic. I find it a bit weird to open a whole new topic on another board to answer that one question... And some got really irritated right away complaining that we got off-topic. I immediatly dit not like that . I appologized and did not post anymore. I do not see that here, it feels comfortable in a way . But to get back to Taylor again. i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gifShe has in fact a great voice and although she makes many love and fairytale songs, she just exactly knows how to put feelings in a song. Besides that ofcourse she really wants to be close to her fans by making these videoblogs. She has a great sense of humour which I also appreciate . Hayley is also a very appreciative person (so far I could see in interviews, etc) Hayley is in a different way very loyal to her fans and music . Ofcourse Taylor is an American, and they have a whole different way of 'entertaining'. Also has to do with type of music ofcourse I like it the way Hayley does it though. I never heard of Faryl. But I never heard of Hayley before either, so is not so strange. I think classical kind of music is something young people can not get used to (most then) I'm trying to get some more fans here in my country... I already got my dad little interested...but hey, he's 54 hahaha... i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gifI'm glad to see more fans of Taylor too here. Cause I feel a newbie on classical topics...

Sharon... On my own forum, there is no 'off topic' rule because I utterly hate the way good conversations get ruined on so many other forums by no-one daring to continue what they want to be saying because it might be considered 'off topic' and they'll get yelled at. To me, if people are having fun and not starting trouble, it's ALL on topic! But then, I don't call my forum 'The Chaos Cascade' for nothing! Faryl is a really good singer and well worth your while checking out if you get the time YouTube have a lot of her songs, though sadly not her version of A Nightingale Sang In Berkeley Square which is my favourite song by her. Taylor knows her own voice very well and writes songs that suit her perfectly. Her voice doesn't have the power of, say, Miley Cyrus (I don't know if you ever heard their duet of Taylor's song Fifteen, but Miley sounded awful because her voice is just too strong for the song) but she has a pretty fair versatility as her Crossroads team up with Def Leppard (!) proved. Taylor sounded terrific singing their songs. Evidently a lot of other people loved that team up, too, as it's been released on DVD... but only through Walmart, who seem to be very exclusive-minded and US only. Making it impossible to get for the likes of you & me. I'd write my opinion of that policy and by extension them, but I'm pretty sure the swear filter would take out the entire paragraph!

Well it's good you don't have that rule on your forum...It's really annoying! I will Check Faryl out if I find the time. I did saw the video of Miley & Taylor singing 'Fifteen'. She (Miley) really ruïned the whole song. I love the song (although it's been 6 years that I was that age) I actually had many conversations with Taylor fan's who said Miley really had an annoying voice. I also heard Miley singing her somg 'The Climb' Live. And that did not sound very good if you ask me...I like that song very much, but that's it. I'm not a Miley fan. In my opinion she got into this bussines because of her famous father. I admire Taylor for her strength and passion she had put in the songs to get them heard by all the record company's. I'm sure you know that story... i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gifNever really heard of Deff Leppard though. I think it's not really my kind of music. I think it's some kind of rock right? Never heard it here in my country much. But I'm sure their are many fans living here... Americans are not really fair to release a DVD only for their own benefits. Typical... But mostly these things can be found on Youtube (thankfully!) I have an account on Youtube so I have many in my favourites. At the moment it's many Hayley, but also many, many Taylor Swifts'... Pretty funny, Her last name reminds me of that car 'Suzuki Swift' i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gif

Sharon... I have never been a huge fan of Def Leppard, but they are legends. I was pretty stunned they agreed to perform with Taylor, but i think she just has this way of winning people over. Their joint performances are all on YouTube and (Again) well worth your time. Been a LOT longer than 6 years since i was 15, but that song makes it seem almost like yesterday. I think she captured that period of everyone's life perfectly. As for Miley - I like her voice. Well, technically BOTH her voices, as she sings in a different key as Hannah Montana than she does as herself. She's no Hayley, don't get me wrong, but she has a very good voice, especially for someone her age. It's more of a Rock voice than a Pop voice, though, which is why her best songs tend to be more Rock based, like See You Again. Duetting with Taylor, who has a very different kind of voice, was a terrible mistake, especially on that song. Miley just couldn't hold her voice down enough. As for being famous because of her Father - some truth in that, but the girl has enough talent of her own that I suspect she would have done well, anyway. She certainly has the confidence! Taylor, of course has the whole 'superstar' & 'girl next door' packages rolled into one. It's an unbeatable combo. I don't actually have a YouTube account, but I use it enough that I probably should... As if my MySpace isn't baffling enough for people with all the different types of music!

Well I should take a look one day at their joined performances then. I also have seen 2 video's of this Faryl Smith. She's good, but has that kind of opera voice. I saw a video in which she was singing with Katherine Jenkins as well. I wanted to watch her as well, cause there are some topics of her on this forum and I wanted to know where all the fuss was about. They have quite similar voices. Also watched some Charlotte Church. I knew her, but never really heard her. I listend to her version of 'The Water is Wide.' I really, really dit not like that one! To heavy and it was as if she was choking on her own voice... No, I'll stick with Hayley... i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gifI stil rather listen to Hayley's voice. It's like she made classic music modern and ofcourse she has a very 'light' or angelic voice. Don't know how to call it... I only like miley's song 'The Climb' & 'Best of both worlds'. It's all from Hannah Montana, but I don't care. Sometimes there is still that little girl inside of me... From Taylor I also like that song she sings in Hannah Montana the Movie; 'Crazier'. Miley does has a strong voice, but sometimes it's like she's forcing herself. I'm not really a rock person, so I don't know if it's normal. I just don't really like Miley the way I like Taylor. But nobody's the same ofcourse...and they seem to be good friends . I believe they both have a lot of confidence, otherwise they would not entertain like that. My father uses Youtube a lot as well and does not have an account. It is the easiest cause you can keep video's of your own and save everything you like (favourites) I think I have around 90 favourites, I'm sure it's not the most i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gif

...I also have seen 2 video's of this Faryl Smith. She's good, but has that kind of opera voice. ... "Opera voice"... that's a succinct way of putting it. Opera voice is definitely an acquired taste. When I first heard it as a child I thought it was beyond silly, like someone was shrieking "EEEEEK" to the music. Taylor Swift will never have opera voice, thanks goodness. She doesn't really have a powerful voice and she would be lost without amplification, but it's still a pretty sound she makes. Hayley has some bit of opera voice, but she tastefully keeps it in check. If she ever goes fully operatic I would need to reconsider my enthusiasm. I love her high soprano sound in Dark Waltz and Dido's Lament, but I vastly prefer the folksier voice she uses most.

Hi Steve
I don't know how to call it otherwise then a 'Opera voice'. My english is a bit limited sometimes so it's kind of difficult to find the exact/right words for it. I need some translator help to understand this difficult english grammar that most of you are using...
So if it was a bit insulted or something. Then it was not my intention... But It seems you don't like opera either right?
Taylor Swift is a whole different kind of music then Hayley does ofcourse...I'm glad that Taylor is not even trying to go that high like Hayley...
I use Hayley music while I'm working at school, and it really helps me to relax. Never really had music that could make me so relaxed like this.
I'm just really glad that I have got in touch with both Hayley's and Taylor's great music. They both give a message through their music and voices. If you like it or not, they have equally great voices and temperaments.

Hi folks
Iv been reading some of these comments on this thread with interest and am tempted to buy one of Swift's albums. Would anyone recommend an album - I've had a look on Play.com and there are 2 albums listed, one being self titled and the other called 'Fearless'.
Any suggestions?
Cheers
Ben
