Did you see who liked your post about this on FB?? Costa Pilavachi! I do remember it was reported a few years ago that he had liked our FB page, but here is proof that he is still interested in Hayley's career...! For some reason or another.  Yep and he's liked other posts on occasion. |

Someone is skating to Hayley this season! It's Mai Mihara, a bright young star from Japan, skating to Whispers in a Dream as part of a program to the Mission. It's actually the largest portion of her music, and they seem to have somehow merged the music a bit, to where they added some drums into Hayley's song. I kind of liked that! Here's her program from the Cup of China this weekend; amazingly, she only finished 4th! I have not seen the competition yet, so I don't know who won. It may be that she messed up a bit in the short program, otherwise, I think she would have been higher! I have kept intending to mention this, but kept forgetting; Mai Mihara of Japan has continued to use her Whispers in a Dream program for her free skate this season!  She has again been fairly successful in her competitions this time around; 4th at Grand Prix Japan, and 2nd at GP France. However, she only got 4th at the Japanese nationals, which means she is only an alternate for the Japanese World team. But, she was able to compete at the Four Continents Championships earlier this month in Anaheim, California, and she won a bronze medal! Also, the NBC commentators, former US champ Johnny Weir in particular, were very complimentary of the program for her! I was very pleased that she was able to skate to this program in the US, despite the fact she likely won't be competing at the World championships (held in Saitama, Japan). Unfortunately, I cannot find a video of her free skate from this particular event, so that's why I've quoted my post from last season. Hayley's recent uptick in Sm activity and encouraging hints regarding her music career has gotten me back into my old mode of always wanting to find ways to give Hayley's career a boost. Hence my recent re-try letter to the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, and now it's gotten me finding ways to try to get more skaters to use Hayley's music. The only way I've found is to find their Sm accounts and put the requests in there. Unfortunately, nobody seems to be especially active on anything other than instagram, so the only way I can do this there is to reply to their posts. And I only feel comfortable replying to their actual posts rather than their stories, especially since stories are so temporary, so I don't know if the messages would stick, either. But, so far I've managed to send in requests to 2 of them. The one Japanese girl, Rika Kihira, posted several photos in one day, and I posted a message to all of them, just in case.  But she's Japanese, and will have to translate my comments, if she even bothers reading them.  The other girl I replied to today is Russian, and may have to do the same thing. But no harm in trying, right?  The song list and skaters I have compiled so far are: Dark Waltz, Quanta Qualia, Summer Rain, Never Saw Blue, My Heart Belongs to You, Across the Universe of Time, River of Dreams, and I Believe. For Rika Kihira, I chose I Believe. Other songs are possibilities, but as soon as I listened to it (several times) not too long ago, I decided somebody needed to skate to it, and I decided on her. She's been very successful this season, the first season she's had senior international success. Also I figured it had to be a Japanese skater, due to the fact it would be difficult for a skater outside of Japan to obtain music from her Japanese album (not impossible, but certainly more expensive, and more hassle). I selected Mariah Bell, a US national medallist, to skate to Never Saw Blue, My Heart Belongs to You, or Quanta Qualia. The first 2 I thought would work really well together as a combined program. They are a different tempo, but somehow the notes of each somehow seem to fit, though I can't explain how, I just know what I hear. Also a change in tempo is ideal for a long/free program. However, all 3 of those would be excellent as a short program. Mariah is a lovely skater who has been described as being the ballerina inside a snow globe. LOL She is very expressive and genuine in her interpretation of music. Also, her current short program to Celine Dion's "To Love You More" inspired me to choose My Heart Belongs to You, in particular. The Russian skater I mentioned above was Evgenia Medvedeva, a 2 time World champion and Olympic silver medallist. I thought she'd be a good choice for Dark Waltz, Quanta Qualia, or Across the Universe of Time. As mentioned, I sent my requests in to her today via reply to her instagram post today. I selected another skater, the recently-crowned US ladies' champion, 13 year old Alysa Liu, to skate to River of Dreams, Summer Rain, or Dark Waltz. At the moment, she is not old enough to compete on the senior level (the level you see at the Olympics, of course); she's actually not even old enough for the Junior World championships, either!  But she will be old enough for Juniors next year, and if she keeps up her good skating, she's likely to be on the senior world team in 2 years. So, anything she skates to before she reaches the senior level isn't likely to be televised, though it'll be on the internet. So, I'm not sure if I'll put in my requests to her yet or not. River of Dreams is one that is perfect for her now, due to her innocence and youthfulness, and that song really gives off an innocent and pure vibe to me. It's probably not something a more mature lady skater would want to use. That's why I chose a more mature sounding song as well, in case later on she'd prefer something less girly. Alysa certainly is quite youthful and childlike, so at the moment, RoD suits her very well. I'll probably be lucky to get anyone to skate to Hayley, but if I could get just one to do it, that would be pretty exciting, right? It's still also possible skaters will choose Hayley songs on their own, as they've certainly done before. But it can't hurt to try, right? I even composed my requests to each skater and compiled them in my "Notes" app on my iphone, so that whenever any of them make an instagram post, no matter where I am, I can just copy it and paste, and not have to come up with anything without having a chance to give it enough thought. |

An update on my recent endeavors to convince particular skaters to skate to Hayley's music!!Yesterday I sent my pre-written message, edited accordingly, to US skater Mariah Bell on instagram about possibly skating to Never Saw Blue and/or My Heart Belongs to You, and she liked my comment!! Of course, that's no guarantee of anything, but at least we know she saw it, AND liked it!! Yay! That's half the battle won, I think. Here's what I wrote (and the photo that I responded to, just because): " What a gorgeous photo Mariah! I love the Celine song you’re skating to, and I have a song suggestion for a program that has a similar vibe. The songs Never Saw Blue & My Heart Belongs to You by Hayley Westenra are so beautiful and amazing. They would sound really good used together in a program, or either one by themselves. Yes, hopefully at the very least, she’ll check out the songs, and we can say I’ve introduced someone to Hayley’s music. 😊 But I have to say that out of all the skaters I listed above, she’s the one I’d most like to skate to Hayley. I think those songs suit her extremely well. Also, the fact that she’s American guarantees at least one performance of the program in front of an American audience, at the US national championships, as well as some international ones. And of course, the American TV coverage of all events will always show American skaters, unless they do very poorly, and Mariah is not prone to such bad performances as that. And if her joyful, near flawless performances of the Celine program are any indication, she’ll skate to the Hayley songs just as well. Especially MHBTY, which has about the same level of emotion as Celine’s song. And that is precisely why I chose that for her. 🙂 |

It seems that the photo I sent my request in reply to has disappeared (I wonder why she deleted it; I still also wonder why Chris deleted his Purple Piha photo from instagram, but at least I posted the photo url to it, so it's not lost to us forever; oops, and that's off-topic LOL). Anyway, here's a photo Mariah posted on her boyfriend Romain Ponsart's birthday not long ago, and the fact that she used words that resemble lyrics in Never Saw Blue had me wondering... has she listened to the song? Maybe going to skate to it, too? Maybe, but I think the mods had said that embedding doesn’t always work on this forum. I don’t think her account was private when I first started following her. I’d have to log out of Instagram in order to find out.
Also, I am confused why post appears twice; the unedited version and the edited one (though that one definitely needs editing too, but I don’t dare, or a 3rd version might appear. I definitely did not make 2 posts, I only edited the first one. I also didn’t edit just for the original version to still remain unedited! I don’t want to delete it yet, so the problem can be seen. I am kind of leaning towards this forum having glitches rather than Mariah’s posts having problems.

Mariah Bell's Instagram account is set to private. Accounts must be public in order to embed photos...I verified this with ProBoards' support forum. I tried to follow her but her account is set to request. I hope "she" approves my request to follow.

The same post did not post twice. If I edited it, then 2 edited posts could show up, but not the edited and non-edited. That makes no sense. And I don’t think it’s worth the trouble. Maybe someone could delete the first version?
