It was reported in the Christchurch Press today that Haley will be singing Rule Britannia before every England game in the World Cup Soccer. I wonder if any one else knew about this.Hopefully it would be broadcast so someone can video it.
Edit by Dave: *Now reported by Ross that this story was incorrect, see below.

Thank you for the information, Ross. I had not heard that but, if it is true, it is great news for her and for all of us. Let's hope England get through to the finals so she sings more often! Roger

I hope so too, nothing better than patriotism at it's finest, particularly when "lightly oiled." I wonder if they will give Hayley a little Union Jack or St. George's flag to wave and encourage the audience to wave their own. I'm hoping the latter, since it's semi-politically-incorrect (it was flown during the Crusades, but hey, go home if you don't like it).

If this report is true, it's excellent news - and an absolute coup by Hayley, her Management and the Decca promotional team. They will not show much of Hayley and you will not necessarily be able to hear her too well above the crowd noise - but to be associated with the England team will do her visibility and album sales in the UK no harm at all. If Odyssey is still in the pop chart (and available in supermarkets) in three weeks time when it starts, it will I am sure give it another nice sales boost. Or in the case of Scotland, a sales dip (Andrew will have to make up the shortfall!) As for the flag thing, Steven methinks that sometimes you read too much history ; and fortunately the English public care not one jot about such matters (nor should they in this day and age!) Cheers, Dave

I hope that doesn't clash with pre-fixed concerts as one never knows when they will be playing what match, does one--or that it means she's not having any holiday after all. From which question you might deduce I'm not a football fan! My sport is watching Wimbledon on the box with a bowl of strawberries and cream and a magnum of champagne on ice! Peter

Cheers, Dave Thanks for the inadvertent date tip-off on the World up, Dave. That third week from now is when she is in Cardiff and Llandudno at both ends of that week and i'm booked for both concerts as well as an hotel and a holiday through Wales in between! I'm Very worreid. Peter

Hi Peter, The World Cup kicks of on 9th June with England's first match (against Paraguay) being on 10th. The final is on 9th July. I'm not big on football either but I believe the other matches are somewhere in between! I'm with you, Sir. Wimbledon here we come! Roger

(if winning semi-finalist) Possible clashes are:Sat June 10th - Huddersfield (but Hayley could in theory fly from Frankfurt to Leeds or Manchester in time for her concert there - she has about 5 hours to do it.) Sun June 25th - Llandudno (if England win their 1st round group). Hayley would only have about 3 hours to get from Stuttgart to Llandudno - I don't think she could do it except by private plane/helicopter, or the RAF!) Fri June 30th - Savill Court (if England are 2nd in their 1st round group). Match starts at 4pm BST so maybe she can make it, it's near Heathrow airport). There are no other date clashes that I can see and the maximum number of clashes is two. I could do with someone checking this if the Christchurch Press story is confirmed. news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/world_cup_2006/schedule/group_b/default.stmDave

Thanks Ross! Hopefully the news will turn out to be true, this should be a very good promotional opportunity for Hayley. Even if only 1% of people who watch World Cup decide to buy the album, there's an additional quarter of a million sale! Will try to record the matches if possible, as long as my HD doesn't fill up faster than I can clean it up Allen

Sorry guys it was a false alarm. Gerard put the Press right today. Hayley will be in Germany while the world cup is on but she will be doing her own concerts and one of the songs she will sing is Rule Britannia.

Thanks Ross, to you and to Gerald for putting us right. I have amended the thread title and your first post in the thread. This is a pity - but it looks like some good news for our members in Germany who will have the chance to see and hear Hayley in her own concerts at that time. But I'm not at all sure that it's a good idea for Hayley to be singing "Rule Britannia" in those concerts... Germany and England are two of the greatest rivals in World football that you could ever imagine! This is very daring of Hayley! i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gifCheers, Dave

Many thanks for the correction, Ross. Further to what Dave has said, I think for Hayley to sing 'Rule Britannia' in concert in Germany is not only daring, I think it might be somewhat misguided. It is perfectly normal for anthems and patriotic songs to be sung at the matches but I wonder if it inappropriate for concerts in Germany. I also question that song being sung for England, even at the matches. It is a song for Britain - not England. Roger
