No U2 ? Greetings from Ireland Chels Hi comet I do like U2 but only a few songs of theirs I suppose they were pretty un-avoidable . They have been bangin' out hits for thirty four years.. and to stay on topic.. My favourite rock band.. The Moody Blues.. they sort of invented classical crossover with their album Days of future passed back in 1968.. oh yeah and of course Emerson, Lake and Palmer.. try their version of Jerusalem Gregg Lake had a fantastic voice..

Hi Comet,
I'm a Moody Blues fan too, and have been playing their stuff a lot recently. I bought the whole of the "Magnificent 7" on CD, previously had them on vinyl only. There are a lot of interesting sleeve notes on these CDs too, stuff I never realised about them. My favourite has always been "To our Childrens childrens Children", the album about space flight that came out at around the time of the first moon landings. It includes mty favourite Moodys track "Watching and Waiting", which the Moodies themselves said was the best song they ever wrote. Unfortunately it flopped as a singe, perhaps it was just too good and too deep for the charts. But I have to say they were fabulous songwriters and I'm appreciating that again now.
Another favourite band is Yes, who of course were managed by Hayley's manager, Brian Lane. Some of the complexity in their music was insane - multilayered themes in different time signatures played on different instruments. I'm sure it must take immense virtuosity to perform that stuff. It takes a bit of getting your brain around too, which I suspect is why a lot of people never understood them. But musically they were giants believe me.
