I think your parents must own "The Secret Garden" i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gifAfter you've left home isn't it funny how you feel like you can go back in time whenever you go back to visit your parents? First off, thanks to Mark for your great pictures. It looks like your family had a great time! Also thanks to Belinda for the pictures from New Zealand. I have set a goal to make time to come see New Zealand in the next five years...your pictures are making me want to come more. I was involved in an accident on the freeway this weekend as a passenger (don't worry there were no injuries, not even a cut or bruise) when I was heading up to Chicago. Anyway I happened to have my camera along so I snapped a couple pictures of one of the cars (not the one that I was in.) These pictures don't show the whole extent of the damage on this car. I'm not sure, but if this car wasn't totaled it was pretty close to being there. I am still amazed that nobody was hurt in this. Sorry about the low quality pictures. I was taking these through the back window of our car. These pictures are from when I actually made it to Chicago. I headed into the city to mostly shop and eat (we all realized that after living near the city for so long we had never really attempted to eat Chicago style food so we had deep dish pizza and Chicago style hot dogs) with two of my sisters, but we also stopped off at Millennium Park. A sculpture in the park (this was designed by a well known architect, I'm not sure of his name off the top of my head, he designed it so the reflection of the city would show off of both sides of it, this isn't shown very well in the pictures). Underneath the sculpture. Underneath the sculpture again. A pavilion that the architect also designed that is also at the same park. It was designed so everybody in the audience would have an unobstructed view. Pretty fall flowers in the same park. Katie

Hi Katie & Belinda
Katie, I am so pleased you didnt suffer any injuries. Thanks for sharing the photo's of such an unusual sculpture and the rest of the park. Chicago looks worth a visit. I really do want to see more of the US, I have only been to Florida (Gulf Coast).
Thanks also Belinda for your pictures. Your mums garden looks so English. I really do hope to get over to N.Z in 2008 !
Best wishes Mark.

Hi Katie I'm SO glad you weren't injured in that car accident. I bet you were shaken up quite a bit. I really like the photos from Millennium Park in Chicago! The flowers are nice; the trees have a hint of color in them. That sculpture in the park is so unusual! Thanks for sharing, K ! Joe

Hello Katie and Belinda! Katie, I'm relieved nobody was hurt in the accident, and I hope you've recovered from the shock. Your photographs of Chicago are fascinating, and I like the contrast between the sculpture and the floral scene. Belinda, thanks for sharing the photographs of your parents' garden. It's now spring in New Zealand, but it's a wet autumn here in England, and it's not as colourful as usual because of the hot summer. A lot of the leaves were scorched in July! Best Wishes from London, Richard

Hi all & Thanks Belinda & Katie. Katie, I'm not trying just to get on Belinda's (& Hayley's) good side when I say 'leave some time for Christchurch & surrounds'. The city itself & the surrounds (including Port Lyttelton are beautiful. The sea colour is spectacular. Here are a couple of new neighbours of mine. New Holland Honey eater babies. They're wondering what on earth I am & whether I'm edible. Graeme

Hi everyone, I have discussed briefly the possibility of holding some sort of photographic competition with Steve, but only in such a way that would not preclude him from entering. Further details will be available in a few days but it will be something along the following lines... Theme: "Autumn in the Northern Hemisphere, Spring in the Southern Hemisphere", but, in view of Caite's comment, we will allow anything that appears to be bordering on winter or summer. There will be just one category, not two (or four!). The competition shall be open to HWI Forum Members only (as it is off topic, it is not appropriate for the main site). No decision has yet been made as to weather each member shall be allowed to enter one photograph or two. Entries will probably be made to me by email over a two-week period. At the end of that time, I will host them and post them all. Each one will have a reference number but the name of the entrant will not be disclosed. I will keep a record of names and reference numbers. That post (containing all the entries) will be in the form of a poll so that all members can vote for their favourite. The poll will remain open for (probably) one week, at the end of which time, I will announce the winner. Member will be asked not to vote for their own entry. That is about as far as I have got with the plan for now except to say that this will be held merely for fun; there will not be a prize - sorry! Watch this space for further details. Roger Hi Roger, Will photo's we've already posted be eligible? No I suppose? Graemek

I seem to remember saying to Marianne: that'd be a nice place to retire. I also remember being nervous a few times driving on those mountain roads with 45 deg. fallaway on the edges & no (few)railings. (gulp) Graeme PS I get the feeling that Hayley's fans don't care how far they have to travel to see her. (purse-strings permitting) Hi Rodders by the way !!
