Hi Libby and Northern Lights,
I won't drift off topic for too long but, for the benefit of members who are too young to remember, Dusty Springfield was one of the leading pop vocalists in the UK during the 1960s. Her career began as a member of a trio called the Springfields (which included her brother Tom) before going solo. Her big hits included 'I Only Want To Be With You', 'I Just Don't Know What To Do With Myself', 'Son Of A Preacher Man' and 'You Don't Have To Say You Love Me'. Dusty died of cancer in 1999 at the age of 59.

Hi All,
It has been awhile since I heard on the radio The Rose by Bette Midler That would really be awesome to hear Hayley sing, at that matter anything she sings is awesome.
I also hope she puts out a new Christmas CD, even if she doesn't I would love to hear her sing El Shaddai by Amy Grant
Regards to All, Howard USA

Hello to everyone. There's just one song that i wish in the new Hayley's album.. I totally love You Raise Me Up. It's my favourite CW song and a Hayley's version will be surely amazing.. like it's her performance at the Slane Castle. It will be nice to have Listen To The Wind in an official album.. but whatever comes out it will be wonderful, no doubt on it! Greetings, Emil

Hi Peter, No problem, Thank You! And I hope you are well.
Peter the song El Shaddai appeared in 1982 on Amy Grant's "Age to Age" album, words by Michael Card, music by John Thompson, this song was very big for her, I don't find any awards for this song but the album went platinum.
Before I wrote this, I went to...youtube.com....and I did a search for amy grant. I found on the first page a live performance of the song (which is good) I also found on the second page the album cover of the song (which I really think is great) (note you will see a small picture of the universe next to that song)
I suggest go to youtube and check it out. Now I am talking about the words of this song (however, I do like), but the song itself is very powerful and emotional....really a great song.
And with the Hayley touch....wow....that song will be heard across the universe.
So check it out and let me know. My very best, Howard USA

YRMU is likely to be on at least one version of the new albums (to be released in late summer, NH seasons)
as for Listen to the Wind, it may be on the album, but probably not

Thank you Howard for your El Shaddai information on 68. This raises two interesting points. Part of the first point, widening the debate, is that Amy Grant doesn't arouse excitement in me nor does her rendition of El Shaddai although I could see Hayley making something of it. The second part of this point is in so simple an exchange we have expressed diverging views, highlighting again that it is inevitable that some things will please some people and other things will not. As Roger has said and others elsewhere in different contexts, there are those who will always follow Hayley and others who will remain if the balance across the range is right to gain more than are lost. Divergence of opinion is inevitable and she cannot please all of the people all of the time if there is to be the 'fire in her belly' a performer needs. Point 2 is a personal response. I tried a 'Judy Garland' search on You.tube and was amazed to find her 'Over the Rainbow' from the film. It was an interesting contrast from hearing Amy Grant who is new to me. A seemingly personable performer whose appearance in jeans I kinda liked. What is interesting is trying to define that indefinable 'something' that draws especial attention. Why, to me, is Amy Grant clearly a good singer while 'Judy Garland' is, quite simply, 'Judy Garland', and 'Hayley', 'Hayley'? I think there are three things: - timbre
- arrangement
- interpretation
Because they both have deeper voices than Hayley, timbre is without doubt what makes Judy Judy as opposed to just being a good singer (Amy). That is the distinction to me between the two. In favour of Amy is a good sense of stage presence and song understanding--both of which are inherent to Judy--and which lifts Amy to the higher level of 'good singers'. Being absolutely critical, there is a horn presence in Judy's rendition that now I come to think of it I have always noticed but immediately dismissed as irrelevant. Somehow it seems to jar. In Amy's work, frankly I just don't like the arrangements--I did hover to hear a few of hers. This brings into play what I said to the four angels after the St James' performance; 'The unsung heroes tonight, which you sang so superbly well, are of course your arrangers'. It is the arrangement that can turn a good singer into a superb singer. In All Angels and Hayley you have superb singers well arranged with mastery of their songs when 'superb' is transformed into the 'superlative'. Do I make sense? Peter S.

Hi Peter, WOW...no problem! I have to tell you first of all I think Hayley is the Best! Now I did not mention El Shaddai because of Amy Grant (others have done that song also). And yes I do like Amy and I say that Hayley is a much better singer.
Now you mention Judy Garland. "Somewhere Over the Rainbow", I always hated that song. But since I listen to Hayleys version on "My Gift to You", I now think that song is great. And I think that Hayley does have a better voice than Judy also. And there is another song that I always hated "Wuthering Heights", but listening to Hayley sing it, I love it now.
I only picked El Shaddai because I really like that song and the album that I have it on is by Amy Grant. I was not trying to promote Amy.
The first time that I heard of Hayley was Nov. '06, thanks to the Celtic Woman. For over a year now, and I am being truthful all I have been playing was my Celtic Woman CD's (solos also), and Hayley...and no matter what I listen to in the evening I have end my night by listening something of Hayley.
In my past posts in this thread I said it would be great if Hayley just started with the alphabet beginning with the letter A and sing every single song. Yes it sounds like a joke but, I would love to hear Hayley sing everything there is. Some members would like to hear repeats from her previous albums...not me, I would love to hear as many different songs as possible.
Hayley has all ready proven to me that she can take a bad song and make it good. Hayley has such a distinctive voice....she is Hayleywonderful!
Peter I am not sure if I am making any sense here and be honest I am not sure what you were getting at.
But I think this topic should go to another thread.
Now come to think of it there is another song that I would love to hear Hayley sing is the theme song from "The Titanic".......And yes she would do a fantastic job of that also.
My Very Best, Howard

I was listening to another wonderful singer who died too young last night - Sandy Denny, perhaps best remembered for her work with the folk band Fairport Convention. I was wondering what her song "Who knows where the time goes" would sound like if Hayley sang it. Not that I'm sure she could. I think the thing about Sandy, apart from her beautiful voice, was her expressiveness. This is an area that Hayley seems to have been working on recently, and she has improved a lot in that respect in her recent recordings IMO (try comparing "I have a Love" or "Listen to the Wind" with most of Pure for example, and you might hear what I mean. So, Hayley, if by any chance you should read this, I would recommend having a listen to Sandy Denny. Not that you should necessarily record any of her songs, but listening to the way she sings them might provoke some ideas.

Hi Martin,
While I can understand your resevations, I think 'Who Knows Where The Time Goes' is a fascinating suggestion. I think Hayley really could do something with that and I believe it is exactly the sort of material that would sit well if it were added to any of her existing albums.
