Hi Peter I was hoping I would stir up a little reaction!! There are some originals which can never be surpassed (Bridge Over Troubled Water by S&G for instance) and I feel the same about Kate Bush's Wuthering Heights. However, I do respect Hayley for experimenting with songs away from the normal classical/folk themes. Martin PS Let me know which events you hope to attend this year and I'll avoid them.

Hi everyone
Great album cover Graeme ! When I scan through the tracks, I have to say that most of my favorites are there, in addition to all the songs that I most associate with Hayley , particularly since I became a fan. An interesting thread Roger and I agree, one to keep up interest in the site when most of us are busy doing other things. I do hope that this wont be your last "fun " thread - its the (i'm sure) harmless banter between members, (all of us quite passionate about the subject) that makes things more interesting !!
Best regards Mark.

Hello everybody! I'm glad we decided to go for twenty tracks instead of fifteen, because I couldn't possibly say no to any of the songs in the final list. i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gifGraeme, that's a wonderful design for the album cover. Now all we need is the release date! Best Wishes, Richard

Ave Maria (Bach) Morning has BrokenI'm sorry, but the Ave Maria has to go. That song has been record sooooooooooo many times that I really would want it to the place of a better song on a "Best Of" disc. And "Morning is Broken" is a little too beaty for my tastes. Very sensible Classicgrace. I love the Caccini for her brilliance and the voice challenge, but actually prefer the Schubert anyway, as a tune! Peter S.

Shame on you for loosing us 'Wiegenleid'. i love it for two reasons - its a lovely gentle tume
- she makes German ( which i understand is an excellent rendition) sound so unusually soft and gentle.

....Whilst there, I also gave the push to 'Listen To The Wind' and 'My Heart And I', both of which are very nice but neither of which seem typical Hayley fare to me. I must say, I am finding this fascinating. I am surprised by some that have been eliminated but equally surprised by a few that remain. Some of the latter are among my favourites but I hadn't realised the extent of their popularity...Roger Now that is interesting and i think you (inadvertently, perhaps? ) raise an interesting question. If she is to progress and widen her audience, should we be looking at 'Hayley fare' but that which is untypical of Hayley to show the diversity of her range. I think of teh recent 'Wuthering Heights' rejection which was so controversial and so right. Peter S.

When I suggested that Hayley should do a version of 'Running Up That Hill' that was meet with disapproval. Why?

Whoo hoo, Within Temptation covered 'Running Up That Hill'. I mention that because the lead singer, Sharon Den Adel, has a voice very similar to Hayley (but she does a different style of music).

Andrew and Marianne, Had we asked for members to nominate one song which they WOULD like included until 15 had been named, I imagine you would have been happy with that. But that would have been a virtual repeat of threads such as 'Name your favourite track' which has been done before on several occasions. Also, the requisite number would have been reached before many members had the chance to contribute which would not have resulted in a forum-wide view. To select favourites by a process of elimination is a perfectly acceptable way of chosing anything. To suggest that anyone is shooting down Hayley's life's work is utterly absurd and, after all the time and effort that I have put into the running of this forum, I find it highly offensive. I am sure you are relieved to know that the target has nearly been reached. I can further assure you that I will NOT be starting any more "fun" threads in the foreseeable future. With almost 80 replies in little more than 48 hours makes it one of the most active threads we have ever had. Without it, this forum would have seemed pretty dead as there was never likely to be much else going on during this holiday period. My thanks to those who have supported this thread. It is a shame that not all members are as supportive of the forum as a whole. Roger Hi Roger! I judged from your reply at the time that you did not find my initial 'cop out' response negative. It was intended constructively, although you interpreted it as me being 'overly serious'. Regardless, I simply could not contribute as one or two others expressed having similar difficulties, although contributing their rejections nonetheless but nonetheless, I followed the thread through with an occasional side comment. The thread did indeed provoke a considerable amount of debate and at a time when 'nothing much' is happening on the main Hayley front. It also required a detailed knowledge of Hayley's work and through that debate enlightened many who were not well versed in that amount of detail. Perhaps Andrew's and Marianne's responses caught you at the wrong moment! I would go on the majority of members' reactions and remember how many more may read without contributing. Reading but noncpntributing should not be seen as a pointless exercise. The thread did highlight the difficulties of pulling a Hayley CD together and opened up into various side avenues. Perhaps Andrew was saying no more than that which I said at the beginning--the difficulty of eliminating anything Hayley and introducing the various aspects that have to be taken into account, for what ever reason one is doing it: a serious purpose, fun or a different way of assessing one's favourites. Perhaps he expressed less delicately than I--or simply more directly, whereas I can be somewhat opaque at times, through eing OVER-delicate! What makes this forum lively and keeps it on its toes is the diversity of contributions and the wide-ranging debate and counter-debate they provoke. Especially as some people are able to contribute with considerable knowledge in diverse subject areas across a wide age-range. A lively debate and interaction means that ideas will meet with varying degrees of enthusiasm: from ecstatic delight to something approaching a cold shower but even a cold shower can be refreshing, although sometimes it can come as a shock to the system, especially if one thinks one had turned it to warm! I think on reflection, Roger, you might feel the cold shower was simply wrongly angled and wasn't intended to feel as cold as you thought it. Peter S.
