I'll See You In C-U-B-A
How about this Irving Berlin number performed by Hayley?
It's about Prohibition, but it's hilarious. (And er, has Hayley done "Lili Marlene"? I seem to remember from lurking that she did a Vera Lynn tribute. If she decides to do a jazz album, something I'd love to see, and possibly buy if I had the money, this song would be a great one to include. There's lots of jazz renditions of it.)
Prohibition in the US is long in the past, so I don't think it'd affect her image to be singing about a historical event.
I'll See You In C-U-B-A
Not so far from here,
There's a very lively atmosphere,
Everybody's going there this year,
And there's a reason:
The season opened last July,
Ever since the USA went dry,
Everybody's going there
And I'm going too.
I'm on my way to Cuba,
That's where I'm going,
Cuba, that's where I'll stay.
Cuba, where wine is flowing,
And where dark-eyed Stellas
Light their fellas' panatellas,
Cuba, where all is happy,
Cuba, where all is gay,
Why don't you plan a
Wonderful trip to Havana,
Hop on a ship
And I'll see you in C-U-B-A.
Take a friend's advice,
Drinking in a cellar isn't nice,
Anybody who has got the price,
Should be a Cuban;
Have you been longing for the smile
That you haven't had for quite a while?
If you have then follow me and I'll show the way.
Come on along to Cuba,
That's where I'm going,
Cuba, that's where I'll stay.
Cuba, where wine is flowing,
And where dark-eyed Stellas
Light their fellas' panatellas,
Cuba, where all is happy,
Cuba, where all is gay,
Why don't you plan a
Wonderful trip to Havana,
Hop on a ship
And I'll see you in C-U-B-A.
Here's www.youtube.com/watch?v=mLPiVAQ2K-0 a version of I'll See You In C-U-B-A done as a duet.
The movie the song clip above comes from (Blue Skies) was basically a sequence of Irving Berlin songs. Can anyone else see this being done?
