I've just watched the film Dear John...it is a great film...although very sad in places :-( ...in it there's a song which was written and sung by Amanda Seyfried (she plays a lead role in the film) called Little House...here's a link to it : www.youtube.com/watch?v=DjGOEU94sHcI'd love to hear Hayley sing this song because I think it would suit her voice very well...and although it is a simple song...i think it is very beautiful...but maybe that's just after having seen the film...it fits perfectly with the film anyway...it's a must-see for romance lovers I think!... I'd also love to hear Hayley sing a French song in French...as I'm studying French and i'm told to listen to as much French music as possible...i'd love that to include Hayley...and give me more of an excuse to get my classmates and my teacher to listen to her music...I think that'd be the only way... best wishes Sing

I would like Hayley to ditch her Classical Crossover style for one album only and record nothing but Wuthering Heights-type of songs. I'm talking upbeat, alt-rock, progressive songs that will bring down the house like WH always does.
Incidentally, "Wuthering Heights" is also Hayley's heights where audience appreciation is concerned. No other song in her repertory comes close as an out-and-out show stopper. If you're keeping up with the latest reports, her fans in Taiwan and China are totally loving it, too. This is exactly what she should concentrate on for a while. She can always return to crossover, but right now her voice is perfect for quirky rock music.
Okay, so here are a few WH-type songs that would sizzle under her amazing vocals:
1. '81 (Joanna Newsom) 2. Heaven's Door (Kelli Ali) 3. Carpet of the Sun (Renaissance) 4. Diamonds and Rust (Joan Baez) 5. Me and Bobby McGee (Janis Joplin)
If you are unacquainted with any of these unique songs, you can certainly check them out on YouTube.

Janis Joplin? I'm not so sure about that. Great song, but I can't really see Hayley singing it. Maybe, though. I'm not sure that many rock songs would suit her, though, even if she wanted to do them. Hayley has a high voice, so it's better for her to avoid fast songs with short notes that are going to make her sound chirpy. Her voice is gorgeous on longer, drawn out notes, but not short, high notes. Sure, she's doing better with lower notes, but not low, gravelly ones. It really just depends on the song, though. When she first sang Jolene with Sharon Corr, I thought the low, fast verses didn't do justice to her voice at all, but then she sounded much stronger by herself in Pontypridd. Joan Baez is a better choice, and I think Judy Collins would be good, too. Wuthering Heights was great, but a whole album of songs like that? Good luck with that! i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gifI do recall Hayley saying something about she's not going to "rock out" or anything. I can picture her going more the folk/country route, though. Her recent cover of Jolene was nice. I loved it when she sang "Down to the River" on her DVD. I think the song "I'll Fly Away" (also in the movie "Brother Where Art Thou") might be nice, too. I much prefer the variety of her past albums, and I think Hayley does, too. So I doubt she'll ever do all one genre, at least not for a major release. Right now I'm kind of hoping for a "Hayley Sings Taiwanese/Chinese Songs" album!

Well, Libby, since you didn't mention Carpet of the Sun, I will. That is a ongethat I think could suit Hayley. The original singer, Annie Haslam, always sounds flat to me, although she has a nice voice with good power and range.

I can't mention something I've never heard of. Hmm, we live in the age of easy access to just about any song thanks to YouTube. The songs I suggested for Hayley can be sampled there. If you still don't think they're appropriate for Hayley—after actually listening to them— I will be entirely respectful of that opinion.

I never said she shouldn't sing those songs. I can at least guarantee you I'll listen to them if Hayley actually does sing them. I'm pretty sure I've tried Diamonds and Rust before... I'm the one who suggested Joan Baez once a couple years ago after hearing her on a show on TV.

I can't mention something I've never heard of. You ought to have a listen to Renaissance Libby, they are a quite different and piano driven progressive rock band. I can'rt imagine that Hayley would like "The Black Flame" though, exellent song though it is. It's just not her. Carpet of the Sun, maybe. Martin D

Well, in my opinion, it's risky to say a song or a style wouldn't suit Hayley... I believe she can sing whatever she wants and make it sound great, she has the ift of adapting her singing to any song she does. I have already gotten used to her surprising me almost at every step she makes. There are two major examples of it on Winter Magic: Veni Veni Emmanuel, I would never imagine she could get such a precise ancient-style sound. And I would also never imagine Hayley's voice could fit Ronan Keating's, however... I consider It's Only Christmas one of her best duets and she manages to match so perfectly the song and to complement Ronan's voice.

Hi Michal,
Yes, all of that is true. But... there is a certain consitency in the songs that Hayley chooses to sing. She never goes for songs that are bitter, depressing or negative. I don't think she would sing a song that conflicts with her own principled outlook on life. She always goes for beauty, positivity. The only downbeat stuff is her torch songs and perhaps Melancholy Interlude. I can't imagine her ever being sarcastic or violent or overtly sexual like so many modern pop songs are. It just isn't her way.

"I Hope I Never" that she sang at Shepherd's Bush was more negative and depressing than her usual repertoire. It sounded great, though.

I don't know that one Libby. I had my doubts about Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah too, but she sang the cleaned up version.
