Jonathan Ansell - Tenor at the Movies

Hi Melody and everyone,

I was away from things on Monday but I can confirm Jonathan (with a little help from Hayley ) is still no. 1 in the Classical Artist chart and i can't think of anything that could keep him off the top of the classic FM Chart on Saturday.

I suppose it's too much to hope that they will play the duet with Hayley again on Saturday but I hope they do!

Fingers crossed they play the duet on Saturday - its very popular in the Jonathan camp.

Sadly we didnt get our requests played for Jonathans birthday - there wasnt actually any classical/crossover artists played on Lunchtime requests at all.

I'm quite new to this - do classical /crossover artists get difficulty in getting played a lot on the CFM station?

Are there any stations that are sympathetic to the genre?

Well, I hope they play the duet again, since I missed it last week. But they probably won't, they like to change things around.

CFM seems more sympathetic to Hayley than any other station, but the are picky about which of her music they play - it has to be "classical". Radio 2 prime time shows don't want to know for some reason. I'm sure some of her songs are sufficiently "pop" for Radio 2. I'm sure if we still had offshore pirate radio, they would be on to her like a shot!

It does seem difficult for the classical/crossover artists to get radio airplay. I dont understand Radio 2 - there is obviously a big market for the genre and yet they dont embrace it in any way on prime time shows.

CFM are the best radio station - but even they dont seem to devote a large amount of time to playing the artists. Although they are excellent with online features and the CFM magazine is very supportive.

It's a shame that the Classic FM tv music station is no more - I had it on most of the day - but now it's on the computer it's not quite the same.

In my opinion you cant get better singers than Hayley, All Angels, Jonathan, Katherine, Russell, Aled etc etc and it's a shame that the mainstream side of things dont give them some airplay.

Hello again everybody!

Jonathan Ansell's 'Tenor at the Movies' has stayed at No.1 in the Classic FM Chart for the third consecutive week. I didn't listen to the show yesterday, but the playlist indicates that Mark Forrest played 'Vois Sur Ton Chemin', which features All Angels.

Hi All,
Since I missed a lot of this thread's content while in NZ, I decided to download the whole album, from 7 Digital, last night.

First I was only going to get Jon & Hayley's duet but decided on the whole album after listening to JA's voice & also realising that All Angels were involved.

I'm delighted to say that Jon's album has remained at Number 1 in the classical chart for the 2nd week running. He's also at 13 in the mainstream album charts.

I am not sure what I expected from this album when it landed on my mat this morning. I know Jonathan Ansell has a great voice but it has not been maximised on disk up until now and the production on the previous G4 albums was, shall we say, not as good as it could have been.

Well this album is an absolute triumph, not only Jonathan but the guys from G2 Music and Nick Ingman all deserve the roses for this one. Vocal range and dexterity truly amazing, orchestration fantastic and the production values really high.

And obviously I am not alone in thinking this as yesterday Sunday 24th February Jonathan became the youngest tenor to top the classical charts with this album.

The track selection is appealing at first glance but when you hear some of the most evocative soundtracks ever written - plus a few hijacked from Handel, Verdi and Puccini - combined with this stunning tenor it certainly hits the spots others cannot even dream of reaching.

There are also some interesting collaborations, the duet with Hayley Westenra is quite lovely, their voices entwine beautifully round the love theme from Romeo and Juliet and Vois Sur Ton Chemin with All Angels as the choir gives a wonderful twist to the Les Choristes theme. But my own favourites are when David Garrett's haunting violin complements Jonathan on The Godfather theme and Se from Cinema Paradiso.

However the track to knock your socks off is the first one, Here's to the Heroes from Dancing with Wolves - have been lucky enough to see this performed live but it is equally stunning on disk.

With this album Jonathan is redefining the crossover genre as there are no poppy songs operatised just beautiful popular music from many different eras complementing that spectacular voice.
