I just saw the video to Kate's "Wuthering Heights" yesterday, and its uh, VERY interesting! To be honest I was expecting someone completely different, and a difference voice as well... All I can say is that I'm so glad Hayley covered this song, because if I had just heard Kate's version I would have had no clue how good the song could sound, lol. What do the rest of you think of her version?

Hi Tashi,
I remember hearing Kate's version when it first came out many, many years ago. I hated it. The day I first heard 'Pokarekare Ana' on the radio and rushed out to buy Pure, I stood in the store and read the track listing. All was well until I saw 'Wuthering Heights'. I nearly put it back on the rack. Honestly, I disliked it that much.
I believe I did actually replace it and then pick it up again for another look. I remembered the gorgeous voice I had heard on the radio just an hour before and I knew I had to buy it.
When I first heard Hayley's version, I was very pleasantly surprised as it was far better than I ever thought that song could be but I was still unsure about it. I continued to play the album regularly for the next four or five months and my opinion remained more or less unaltered. Then I saw Hayley during her Pure tour concerts. It was a stunning show but then came the final encore - Wuthering Heights. My opinion of a song has never changed so much. It was truly brilliant. As you know, I have seen Hayley many times and there are many highlights but seeing her perform that song live is undoubtedly one of the best. It - and she - was absolutely magnificent.
As Belinda says, there is no comparison.
Roger

Hello Tashi, Belinda and Roger! I never liked the song until I'd played Hayley's version several times. I didn't like Kate Bush's voice because it sounded so unnatural, but the song started to grow on me when I heard Hayley sing it. My only criticism is that both versions have a rather similar arrangement, but Hayley's singing is better by miles! i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gifBest Wishes, Richard

Hello Tashi,
I have listened to Kate Bush's version before. I always think Hayley's version (especially the new version) is much better than her version. When I read your post, I searched the internet and find Kate Bush's video of this song. I would say I don't want to watch that video again. I don't know why I am scared by that video.

Hi all, I do actually like Kate Bush, but I didn't like 'Wuthering Heights' or one or two of her other songs where she sounds 'weird' when she sings. The truth is: I think 'Wuthering Heights' belongs to Hayley - It sounds great when she sings it. I remember seeing the video for it just after I discovered Hayley and I remember going "WOW!" at the end of it.

Hi Raymond. I think its Kate's weird dancing that put's me off the video, I love Hayley's video more.

I prefer Kate Bush. Original artists are, for the most part, better than any cover artist.

Hi Portia, that is a very broad statement, but somehow I would have guessed that you would prefer Kate Bush's version, I wonder how you would react to a cover version of Pokarekare Ana? do you think anybody could better Hayley's signature tune? Steve

I must admit, I was a little nonplussed when I saw this track on Pure, but I decided I could just bypass it if I didn't like it. I am kinda inclined to say Hayley sounds better, since she doesn't try to afftect the "spookiness" that Kate does not quite achieve. As for Kate's dancing, well, it is a little odd, but it beats Britney's undulating any day.

Steve But Pokarekare Ana is not Hayley's original creation. Maybe not but it was Hayley who made it world famous. Are you saying that singers in general should not sing anything that has been recorded by anybody else? Surely that would end the careers of 90 per cent of the singers of the world. Roger

Roger No. I was simply saying that if I were to appreciate another version of Pokarekare Ana, it would not be like how I appreciate the original version of Wuthering Heights because Hayley did not write it.
