Hi guys, Yes Wuthering Heights was definitely pulled before the UK scheduled release date which was Monday 22nd March 2004 (the date was given on Hayley's "old" Official Website). There was no video included and I do not think any copies at all made it into the shops. Regarding the UK chart question, I know for certain that promotional copies (again without the video) were sent out so it is possible Hayley got into some radio station's playlist/chart based on airplay. It could also have got into one of Amazon's many charts, based on preorders but I am certain it did not enter the official UK singles chart - it was never released so it could not have done. However, Wuthering Heights was released in Japan on March 10th 2004. It is similar in length to a UK "maxi single" (Roger, you have it I think!) but in Japan, I eventually found out, it was too long/had too many tracks for their singles charts (where it would probably have entered if it had qualified). It is called a "mini-album" in Japan and as far as I can tell, would have qualified for the album charts - but as far as I know, it never entered the top 300 albums there. This is probably because popular singles sell a lot less than popular albums in Japan, so a single that would get into the singles chart would struggle to enter the albums chart. Wuthering Heights (Japan) is currently available to buy from both HMV Japan and Amazon Japan (links are on Hayley's Official Japanese website) That's about all I know about it, folks! Cheers, Dave

Hi Dave, That link to a chart I gave you must have been for ringtones or something. Here is a chart archive I found: vibewaves.brinkster.net/uk/top40/index.htmlThere's no sign of Hayley! Sorry for causing any trouble! The video was on ClassicFm TV again this morning though.

Thanks Jon, I must look out for Hayley's WH video to appear again on Classic FM TV (after over 2 years absence!). After some discussion among the staff, I've moved this thread into Hayley's "Singles" board, "Wuthering Heights" sub-board because it has almost inevitably drifted more into discussing Hayley's version than Kate's version, and it will be handy to have all the WH threads in one place for future reference. I've also slightly altered the thread title to reflect the 'mixed' discussion (I hope that's OK, Natasha!). I've left a "pointer" thread in the original Other Music board so it can be found easily in the future. Cheers, Dave

It gives us 'plebs' an idea of the reasoning behind the scenes and the amount of backroom work that goes on continually. Thank you for that. Peter

I'm sorry, it's my fault for going off topic. I am relieved to get it sorted though, but slightly disappointed that Hayley's single wasn't released.
Now that the thread has changed to a battle between Hayley and Kate, I was thinking maybe its a bit unfair to critise Kate's video, because Hayley's was more suited to the subject matter.
After reading about Kate on her Wiki, its seems she recorded two versions of the Wuthering Height video. One was outdoors in a red dress. I've never seen that video, but it sounds similar to Hayley's (Hayley wears red and she's outside for some of the video).

Hi everyone!!
I was just watching a program on the TV (can't remember the name though) and they were talking about the novel "Wuthering Heights" I knew that a bit of the song was going to be played but was expecting Kate's version, but I was surprised! It was Hayley's version they played! I just wanted to share because I thought that was really neat because I hadn't heard any of Hayley's music used in that way before.

Thanks for that, Caite! It confirms my own observations that Hayley now has a much higher profile than Kate Bush, at least here in the UK. Best Wishes, Richard

Thanks for that, Caite! It confirms my own observations that Hayley now has a much higher profile than Kate Bush, at least here in the UK. Best Wishes, Richard Hi Richard & everyone else, I've never known of a singer or an artist like Hayley who has achieved such success and yet still keeps her feet on the ground. She's so true to herself and all those around her... There are no smokescreens/ cover ups with Hayley... That's why we love her! Andrew

Well, I see that this thread has been unactive since a very long time, but let me say my opinion (and bring it back to the original topic). Hmm... About which version I like better, I think I slightly like Hayley's better... But I love both of them. Actually, comparing them is rather inevitable, but I think we have to keep in mind that Hayley and Kate have very, very different styles. For what I have heard of her Kate Bush was a very experimental singer, who played with her voice by pushing it to extrems (in this, she kinda reminds me of tthe Icelandic singer Bjork), and so her voice and songs sound harsh and may not be pleasent for everyone. Wuthering Heighs was written thinking in those terms, and as an acrobatic and experimental song, Kate's performance is more extreme. Hayley got a sweet voice, and a style that makes her perform beautifully any classical, traditional and light pop songs. I think Wuthering Heights was a deal for her, cause it's a very difficult song to sing, and she kept the acrobatic spirit of the song but at a less extreme level, that's why it sounds more "pleasent to the ear". So, yes, I like Hayley's cover a little more than the original, but I think Kate Bush, as being the composer of the song, perforemd it just as she meant it to be performed. Which, of course, doesn't meann that she "owns" the song and she is the only credited person who can perform it. The thing about covers is to "remake" a song and makke it the way you feel it.

I also like both versions, but I don't like Kate's other songs.
Also, Kate looks a bit creepy in the music video of Wuthering Heights. But I'm thankful, cause because of Kates video on Youtube, I came across Hayley's version. And she really swept me off my feet! Many followed after, and never had any regret, ofcourse.....

Well, I didn't like Kate's version at all. Hayley made me like this song, becuase she makes it her own and sings it in her own way. She has a habit of making me like songs that I don't like. That's a sign of what a great artist she is.

Martin I agree, Hayley may perfrom it in her own, less extreme way, but I think she keeps in mind the original version when performing it, she doesn't change a single note of the song and even the arrengement is really similar too. Plus in her Live New Zealand Concert DVD, when iintroducing the song, she says "I just fell in love with these song immediately".
