I love some of his albums though so I'd be very curious to hear him sing his own material in concert. Libby, do you know if there's a tour planned for Europe anytime soon? He mentioned on a TV show in Ireland (RTE?) recently that his album would be released next summer, and then he will start touring Europe first. He has said before that he has already been working on the album. He even said he was working with a different producer, Rick Robinson, I think. He also said he'd written "lots of new songs"! Maybe he just hasn't actually started the recording process.

I'm sorry but I just don't get it. I played ICUAMC and his pitch control is all over the place. It is so bad it actually made me cringe. He absolutely murders that song. I'm sure I bcould sing it better myself, and I have never had any pretentions of being a solo singer. Either he can't sing in tune, or is deliberately singing out of tune, but whichever it is, I for one don't like it!
If that is the way he sings he should NEVER sing a duet with Hayley. She would simply show him up for what he is.

Hmmmm... whatever. Either you like his voice or you don't. Personally, I LOVE his voice.

Well, it would be a boring old world if we were all the same wouldn't it?

Well, the recorded versions of his songs are always sung perfectly. I'll admit that he is sometimes off in his live performances. I posted the live version because of the interview afterwards, and I wasn't sure a bunch of Josh photos during the song would interest you. Perhaps you'd enjoy the recording from the album better, but I suppose you're already bent against it, so there's probably no point in posting it. I still think the arrangement is great. I prefer Christmas carols and hymns sung in the traditional way for the most part, but I really like the way he did this one. Look at how popular his CD is, so many people don't agree with you. I often prefer the original recordings of Hayley's songs, too, at least the most recent ones. I'm particularly referring to the Itunes concert. I don't like the way she sings Pokarekare Ana now. Does that mean she's not a good singer? Of course not! She also sang some songs slower. Hayley sings with Jonathan Ansell, whose voice I really cannot stand; it's so harsh and irritating. She sings with him far too much, in my opinion. So, why can't Hayley sing with Josh, just because you don't like this one song? If she did, she would gain more popularity from Josh fans, who also happen to be Americans, for the most part. You've probably never heard a recording of his before, otherwise you'd know he's extremely talented.

My money is where my mouth is , I bought CLOSER at full price.
They were advertising his "NEW COMPILATION " a lot over Christmas on TV, I don't know if they did the same in the UK.

Hi Comet,
Don't recall seeing it advwertised here, but I don't watch much TV (too busy listening to Hayley) so I could have missed it.
ISTR Josh did a Christams album a year ago (or is my memory playing tricks), I vaguely remember listening to it and quite enjoying it, so maybe you are right about live performances Libby. Perhaps he is a bit like Bing Crosby/Perry Como really.
As for Jonathan, I liked G4, then didn't like him solo, but since he has been singing with Hayley so much lately, his voice has grown on me. He could be an acquired taste!
But then,. so could Josh!

He could be an acquired taste! His Christmas album "Noel" came out last year, but it's still hugely popular this season, too. It was the best-selling album for 2007! And it's Amazon's most popular product in music for 2008! The album has increased his popularity in America quite a bit. More people know who he is now. I never saw a TV ad for Josh until this album came out. I love seeing Josh in concert, and I always get his "Live" DVDs, but I will say that he never sounds quite as good then as in the recording studio. In his Live at the Greek DVD from the Closer tour, he sings my favorite song, Remember when it Rained, but there's one note where he is very obviously flat. It's normally the best part of the song, too! He'd been on tour for quite some time, so I think touring for months can have an effect on your voice and how well you perform. In the studio, there's more time to work on perfecting your voice, and warming up. They can probably hear themselves better, and there may be less adrenaline and nerves than performing for a live audience. They're probably better rested too, than when they perform live. I like Hayley's performance of Un Giorno Per Noi. However, Josh sings it a hundred times better than Jonathan. His version is incredible. Jonathan's okay at the beginning, but as he and Hayley sing together, he sings in high, harsh tone that is headache-invoking. I have nothing against him, but he does not compare to Josh at all. I did like Lee Mead with Hayley, though. He sang it almost as well as Josh did with Sarah Brightman. Sarah wasn't nearly as good as Hayley, of course. If only they could trade... Here's the recording of Midnight Clear, for your comparison:
He sounds perfect to me!
