How all,
now I'm back from Athens Hellenic Festival and I must say Mario Frangoulis has a phantastic voice. I was very suprised about him, because I had never heard anything about him before.
I bought 2 CDs of him "Sometimes I dream" and "Follow your heart".
Try it by yourself - I believe you will enjoy it too.
Regards, Lothar

Hi Lothar,
I'm pleased that you liked Mario. Hopefully that partly compensates for Hayley not being there. I have Mario's two CDs which are really excellent. I must get around to playing them again - they'll be even better then!

Hi Lothar,
That would be wonderful but, of course, Mario was her guest during the Winter Tour in the UK last November. I suspect that someone else would have that honour in future.
Hayley and Mario's duet of 'Hine e Hine' was the best version I have ever heard.
All the best, Roger

At last, I have seen one of Mario's CDs in a store in the UK. Follow Your Heart ought to be very popular amongst lovers of crossover but where is the promo? Roger

Just to remind you, Mario Frangoulis supported Hayley during the Winter Tour (UK) in 2004. Now, from the Hellenic News of America comes this... Frangoulis Makes Chicago Debut in Support of the HMCCHe is a Hellenic heartthrob with a voice that caught Billboard’s attention enough to list him as a “Top Cultural Crossover,” alongside Andrea Bocelli, Charlotte Church and Josh Groban. And now, critically acclaimed tenor, Mario Frangoulis, is making his Chicago debut on Monday, October 9 at the Symphony Center for one night only to benefit the Hellenic Museum and Cultural Center. Frangoulis, 35, has been topping the music charts in Greece for years, but it was not until his latest release, ‘Follow Your Heart,’ that he gained international recognition and success. His style of music is has the energy and sound of contemporary pop with hints of operatic expertise and classical training, which comes as no surprise when you take into account that he was once a scholarship student at New York’s Juilliard School of Music. Fast- forward to the present and his list of accomplishments has continued to grow- Frangoulis was a key performer at the Opening Ceremonies of the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens and has had many outstanding performances, including a duet with Latino superstar, Alejandro Fernandez. Of course, this rare performance will be most memorable because it was organized with one main goal in mind: to benefit the Hellenic Museum and Cultural Center. “I am thrilled to be given the opportunity to perform in Chicago to benefit both the Hellenic Museum and the Greek community,” says Frangoulis. Although the complete performance will take place on the evening of Monday, October 9, friends and supporters of the Museum will have the opportunity to see Frangoulis before the rest of Chicago does, on the eve of his debut. On October 8, the HMCC will honor John P. Calamos, Sr., of Calamos Investments, at the annual fall gala, ‘Art of the Greek Soul.’ Calamos has been a significant supporter of the HMCC and a key leader in the field of finance, who has won many awards and titles including the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year award for the financial services sector, Lake Michigan Area program for 2006. Frangoulis will perform a selection of songs, and surely give gala attendees a taste of what is to come at Symphony Center. And as if the evening couldn’t get more exciting, NBC Chicago’s very own Alison Rosatti is the Mistress of Ceremonies. “My songs express my emotions, my hopes- my soul. The Greek community, as well as my fans around the world, will always be close to my heart, and I am pleased that I have the chance to give back in any way that I can,” says Frangoulis. ‘Art of the Greek Soul’ Gala. Sunday, October 8. The Ritz Carlton Chicago, 160 E. Pearson St. Cocktails at 5:30PM. Tickets: $200. For reservations and information: 312.655.1234 or www.Hellenicmuseum.org. Mario Frangoulis: A Concert to Benefit the Hellenic Museum and Cultural Center. Monday, October 9, 7PM. At Symphony Center, 220 S. Michigan Ave. For tickets: 866.468.3401 or visit www.ticketweb.com.

Hi
I thought there was some more recent info about Mario but this topic is the only one I could find!
I have just discovered that Mario is to perform at the Royal Albert Hall on 19th September 2008. Tickets are on sale now and I can highly recommend seeing this wonderful tenor who was support to Hayley back in 2004. We also saw him in Athens the following year in an amazing outdoor theatre! I have purchased 2 tickets in Block F, Row 5 in the main floor arena (a surprise for Denise who absolutely loves him).

Hi George, Well done for finding that. I began to wonder if we would ever see Mario in the UK again as his name never seems to be mentioned anywhere. For him to appear at the RAH is amazing. They seem confident that the tickets will sell which is reflected in the price! I will almost certainly go (even though it clashes with one of Hayley's dates in Sandringham) but I am awaiting a response from friends in America. I wouldn't be surprised if they come over for this. I believe there is another thread for Mario somewhere but it doesn't really matter which one we use. When Version 5 is released, we should be able to merge them. Huh, whatever next! Roger

Hi Roger & George You are in for a great night as other guests include Natasha Marsh, Lara Fabian, Justin Hayward and Steve Balsamo. I would love to attend but I have a previous appointment that night with an up- and- coming New Zealand singer! Martin

Well, that's another event over! We were treated to spectacular performances from all concerned. I was particularly pleased to hear Mario singing 'Here's To The Heroes' again as it became one of my favourites when he supported Hayley in 2004. Later, he performed 'Notte di Luce', a very well-known tune to everyone as you will shortly discover. For some reason, I wasn't exactly concentrating but just sitting back and enjoying the music. Consequently, I hadn't fully realised what was about to happen. That familar melody was suddenly enhanced when he introduced one of his special guests in between verses. Another voice was heard, now singing in English... "Nights in white satin, Never reaching the end, Letters Ive written, Never meaning to send..." See? I told you it was well-known! The voice was, of course, Justin Hayward, lead singer with the Moody Blues who had such a massive hit with that song back in the sixties. To see him performing it live was one of those very special magical moments. Steve Balsamo, Natasha Marsh and Lara Fabian were brilliant. All sang several solo songs and duets with Mario. I had not seen Lara before. She has a good range, great power and brilliant control yet she makes it all look incredibly easy. Good though she may be, I can't identify anything which makes her stand out from many other singers. Undoubtedly good but not really to my taste. My only slight disappointment was that programmes could not be purchased but single-page leaflets were provided on most but not all of the seats. I didn't get one. Hopefully, George and Denise, who were also there, will have saved theirs in which case, perhaps George can scan it. On a more personal note, I was delighted to meet Gina and John - friends of mine from America. Gina is a huge Mario fan who I came to know through Mario's Yahoo discussion group. We have been exchanging email for about four years - she tells me about Mario's concerts that she has attended, and I tell her about the Hayley events! This was the first time we had actually met and, by some strange coincidence, she and John were sitting right next to George and Denise! The capacity of the Royal Albert Hall is approximately 6,500. It wasn't quite sold out but not far off. I am not aware that Mario has appeared in the UK more than once since his tour with Hayley yet he seems to have a huge following here and deservedly so. It was a great event. Roger

Hi Mario and all his guests were amazing! We had been looking forward to this show for a long time. Lara Fabian was superb and a complete surprise because I was expecting a violinist! I think I got mixed up with Lara St John (thanks for putting me straight, Roger) As you can gather I had not heard Lara before. Natasha Marsh, Steve Balsamo and Justin Hayward were all superb. Steves "Gethsemane" was a highlight as was Nights in White Satin. We will be seeing the Moody Blues next Saturday in Birmingham. After the show we waited with John and Gina until 11.40 pm but didn't get to meet Mario much to Denises's disappointment. Mario had a lot of close family and friends in the audience and evidently there was a large gathering backstage after the show. Justin Hayward appeared and said that "we would have a long wait. He is Greek you know and you know how the Greeks like to party!" One or two photos from the show. Without our professional photographers these will be as good as it gets.
