I hope I don't dig things up but I thought it was worth posting this. The debate on whether CC's chat show was any good is settled - even Charlotte thought it was bad. And Gavin did too! Sorry Jon, it is a perfectly legitimate report but there were a two small sections which some members might find offensive. As I cannot edit the original, I have therefore deleted the link.Roger

This is no big deal, it's one of a tidal wave of articles that have been dropped into the current in anticipation of the show starting up again either this coming Friday or next. Apparently either CC or her handlers are playing this angle this time. However, at least one of the articles cites the reported 1.9 million viewers the show generated last time out as "not setting the world alight" and "average" whereas the last series of articles last year indicated that this figure was in fact "setting the world alight" and a huge success.
Another angle that has been cropping up in these articles is that CC turned her back on doing more to capitalize on her previously huge success in the US around 2004 because it was just too much work and she didn't want to deal with it. As someone who believes it isn't enough to remember history, it's also necessary to remember the important details, CC made a grand total of ONE appearance in the US in all of 2003 and 2004, in Las Vegas. Her days of great success here were long over by 2004 for reasons we need not rehash.

I'm glad I didn't get my head bitten off for posting it like I did on the official site. I was only relaying information and only in jest.

And that kind of conduct surprises you? What else do you expect from musical fascists?

There are still diehard Charlotte fanatics around who don't tolerate criticism. I myself ran a MSN Group for Charlotte once - I deleted it when she started to display more amd more unsavoury antics.
I have been quite harsh about Charlotte in the past - and some of that has to do with the fact that I spent a lot of time on that MSN Group, so it is psychological (I felt then and still feel now that ultimately I have been wasting my time on someone who - to be blunt - caused me to waste my time).
Her record company made the wrong decision to present her initially as an angel - it was a role that did not fit her personality. She has made the wrong decision to forsake the formula of music that brought her success, trying "pop" - in my view a field that is too competitive for her to have a hope of succeeding.
And then she starts shows in which she expresses disrespect and contempt for people involved with respectable institutions. A sign of bitterness?
I don't normally spend time on Charlotte anymore - but the recent high number of new posts here made me think: has there been a new development?
Well, no matter if there has been a new development - It has not given me cause to change my opinion about her.
I have something like 4 CDs, 4 videos and 3 DVDs of Charlotte - and I think it has been at least 3 years since I played any of them. I just can not be bothered.
If there's anyone interested in these, please drop me a line. You can have the lot. It'll free up a bit of space for other material.

Eh, don't blame Sony, they didn't get where they are in the music world by being idiots. The choices made were what they were, and I can only philosophically say that it was a fun time from 99-02, but all good things must come to an end. It isn't like she had a monopoly on her sound or her type of personality. I still can't stand the leaders of some of the fan communities, who I believe to be duplicitous and power-hungry, but since I'm no longer part of that community, they wield no power over me.
There are no new developments, Gerrit, and nothing that should make you change your opinion, as I said, this is just a series of articles to flog the re-release of the show. In fact I have signed pics of CC I might just drop into the mix if there are those who want to take Gerrit up on his offer of clearing out.

Found this this morning on the site that is roughly the CC equivalent to this one. If the internet fascists who run that site posted it, it must mean something.
No new TV series for mum Charlotte Church Dec 16 2007 by Marc Baker, Wales On Sunday
CHARLOTTE Church has ditched plans to return to her Channel 4 chat-show to concentrate on becoming a mum.
The Crazy Chick took on Jonathan Ross in a TV ratings war last year after sealing the deal to host her own series, The Charlotte Church Show.
After taking to the airwaves, the show won a host of awards including a British Comedy Award for Best Female Newcomer and the Funniest TV Personality at the Loaded LAFTA Awards.
Charlotte, who attracted a weekly audience of 2.4m viewers, wound up the show’s second series earlier this year.
Since its launch, the show attracted a string of celebrity guests including Johnny Vegas, Alan Cumming, Patsy Kensit, Ruby Wax and Denise Van Outen.
But since giving birth to baby daughter Ruby in September, Charlotte has confessed that she has no immediate plans to record a third series.
Charlotte, 21, revealed all in a recent singing lesson with her childhood tutor Louise Ryan.
Mrs Ryan, who has taught Charlotte at her Cardiff home since her Voice of an Angel days, said: “Charlotte has been asked by Channel 4 to return but she told them she had not decided yet.
“Charlotte and Ruby are joined at the hip and Charlotte says she does not want her new daughter being looked after by nannies. She is concentrating on becoming a mum.
“In fact, Charlotte told me she wants seven babies.”
The show’s creators Monkey Kingdom have confirmed the delay, saying there are no plans for Charlotte to return.
A spokeswoman for the production company said: “No decision has been taken about the show.”
Charlotte took a year out of singing to record the series.
But despite scrapping recording for the time being, pals say Charlotte is eager to get back to the operatic style of singing which made her famous.
Mrs Ryan, who launches her own vocal training school next year, revealed: “Charlotte came to see me for a singing lesson last week. She was in fine voice and brought Ruby with her, but I have to say Ruby fell asleep as soon as she started singing.
“Her voice sounds better than ever but Ruby wasn’t bothered when she hit a top C. She was not fazed by it at all.”
As well as enjoying a bit of fine tuning, Charlotte booked herself in for some piano lessons.
Mrs Ryan said: “Gavin bought her a grand piano last Christmas and she told me how she wants to learn how to play it.
“Charlotte said she is fed up with playing the songs she learnt when she was 12.”
Well folks, sounds like it's all over for Charlotte. It's a fact that she now has no musical label (Sony dropped her last year) and no TV return plans for the near future or maybe even the not-so-near future. Of course she casts it as her decision to concentrate on being a mom, but I would note that the TV station did NOT say she had turned them down nor even that they had asked her to return, instead they said that there were no plans for her to return and they had not made a decision. Either way that doesn't sound too promising
This line that she doesn't want Ruby being looked after by nannies is utter rubbish, there are pictures of her out cheering Gavin on recently with Ruby nowhere to be seen. Further, I do not know how much stock I would put in this talk of her re-learning her previous "operatic" (actually crossover) style of singing, simply because so many rumors about what she's going to do have been floated in the past (Phantom of the Opera, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, going to Oxford as a mature student) and drifted away like smoke from a dying campfire.
I for one think she is now firmly on the path to where Deanna Durbin is: early retirement and near-seclusion. If she really has seven kids ultimately there won't be time for much else, but my thought is if she wants that many, how about adopting one or two unwanted children to fill out the group?
I also think that maybe the UK finally got the memo that the days of the out-of-control starlet are over. This is a bigger issue, but I really think 2007 delivered a message that can't be ignored. Anna Nicole Smith DIED from her excesses before her 40th birthday and now her child is going to have to grow up without a mom. Paris Hilton was JAILED for her antics and did not handle it well at all. Amy Winehouse is an inch away from really going off the deep end, and we all know what's gone on with Lindsey and Britney. To their credit though, the producers, the powers-that-be, and even the fans are saying that enough is enough. No one is saying that it's their business and therefore everyone needs to sit down, shut up, and applaud. No one is saying that those who speak out against this nonsense are being unsupportive or anything like that. In this climate, a foul-mouthed deliberately bad fallen angel is out of her element, and that's not a bad thing.

... I for one think she is now firmly on the path to where Deanna Durbin is: early retirement and near-seclusion. .... Except that Deanna Durbin knew when to quit. I took this latest story with a grain of salt. I see the hand of an amateur publicist behind it. At best it's just a trial balloon to see if anyone really cares enough to encourage her to return to the spotlight. At worst it's just another exposure meant to keep her name visible now that she's doing the mum thing.

Could be. As for DD knowing when to quit, I guess we'll never know. I know Mario Lanza offered her chances to appear again, and that was nothing to sneeze at. Whether it would have changed anything, I can't say now. I really do think she's just about out of options, though, since most of the last ones have relied on shock value and the only further place to go is out and out "adult" stuff.

Shitfting topics slightly - though not threads, I do think that there is one consideration regarding Charlotte Church that doesnt get enough attention.
If it werent for Charlotte, I very much doubt that this website and forum would exist. To be fair there might be a website and forum - but there is also a huge question in my mind. This is purely speculative of course, because are limits to the degree to which one can "reframe" history....
If Charlotte Church had not been, would Hayley Westenra be - at least in the incarnation we now perceive her?
