I can't remember why I missed it but this from The Independent "...her bank balance, her social life, her boyfriends and her clothes size, her popularity has continued to grow, the general consensus apparently being that, despite existing in a vapid bubble of publicity, she’s probably a decent, down-to-earth girl. Hence the prime-time slot. " Echoes my own feelings when i heard she had her own show.
My own thoughts when I earlier mentioned the possibility of Hayley having her own show (for wHich she is not yet ready) it will be totally different, so there is still a chance for Hayley when she is ready in a year or twos time. My thoughts on that would be somewhere (in principle of format!!!) between Cilla Black and Danny la Rue. How's that for jumping in with all six feet flailing?

Hi Richard, I think you are being kind to describe those reviews as mixed! The only review not to be negative was the one that wasn't a review at all - it just compared the audience ratings of Charlotte's first show with its (failed) predecessor's final show and even that warned that she will be up against stiffer competition next week. Watching the first show (in my case out of curiosity) doesn't imply that you liked it... For me, the following extract from the Independent's review sums it up (and is more or less what i said the other day): Let's hope the producers take note of what was said. Cheers, Dave Oh I don't know! Let's hope they don't. We want a clear run for a Hayley opportunity! Peter S.

I would expect Hayley's chat-show to be more like Michael Parkinson's. She would let the guest speak and ask interesting questions just like parky does.

Wow Fusilier, thanks for snap judgment right there. I for one am not adverse to a fancy French restaurant with impeccably made and presented food and I'm also just as happy downing pizza in front of the TV watch episode after episode of House. So you see, we're very much alike. Portia, we are nothing alike. You've been told to cease your comments about this and that singer, but now when a few people here say they aren't particularly into your sun goddess' new effort, suddenly it's snap-judgment. I'm sorry, but his sounds an awful lot like the nonsense we hear from the dozen or so Charlaholics who get really angry when someone even mildly criticizes Charl. Granted, Charlotte-bashing shouldn't be the order of the day, and I don't think a lot of it has gone on here, it is her latest effort that has come under fire, for what some here see as legitimate reasons. You can answer that, of course, but not all criticism is bashing, though I suppose it's for the rulers of this site to decide what is and what isn't. But there's no reason she or her efforts should be immune from criticism.

I tried to give Charlotte a another chance simply because people have a habit of judging others has if there are the almighty. People do tend to presume they know about someone from a few comments and rumors. Charlotte made some ant-catholics comments on the show apparently (I didn't watch it so I don't know), But they were just jokes right? I don't really like Charlotte if the comments she's made are real. I don't really like people who glamorize boozing either, because thats what she did once.. If its all true then and theres no explanation, I agree with Steve.

For anyone who missed Charlotte's show last week there is always the opportunity to be part of a future show. But first you must enter into a competition. What country is Charlotte from?
England Wales Scotland www.channel4.com/entertainment/tv/microsites/C/charlotte/competition.htmlSorry Belinda, Caite, Joe, Thomas et al, you have to be a resident of the United Kingdom to enter. Any other lambs for the slaughter? Welsh lambs. Oh bother, that's given the game away.

Charlotte Church is not my idol. I don't care for her music much. I simply like her more now that she's honest as opposed to keeping up with an image like most singers do these days. I simply made a comment in a thread that was being revived. You jumped on me and said it was reverse snobbism. Snap judgment, hello? And if that wasn't snap judgment, then saying that she's my "sun goddess" is. Did I say her work was good? No, I've readily said that the show is a bad move. Calling the pope a Nazi and insulting people only is funny to a degree. And I think Charlotte stepped over that line. Charlotte, go back to the music, please. And before the mods get into this, let's stop. We'll never agree with each other. And any further conversation we have will go around in circles.

(half laughs) Portia, perhaps we agree about more than you think. I too think she needs to get herself back in the studio, and insults are unfunny, as is the untrue cheap shot at the Pope (check his bio on Wikipedia if you have questions). Maybe I have you confused with some other folks who shall remain nameless in this thread.
But answer these questions. Is total honesty ALWAYS the best thing? Isn't an insincere "good morning" better than a heartfelt "go to the devil?" And if an image is gone, what do you replace it with?

Total honesty is better than total hypocrisy is it? And while I'd love to shout expletives at some people, it does nothing for me except a five second vent and about a life time of a grudge. Charlotte's honest and for the most part, intelligent. She makes stupid choices now and then, but we all do.
And since that image has enough money to retire and only annoy us mildly with a bad TV show that we can turn off and an album that was only given minimal promotion? Oh yes, I think Charlotte's doing us a favor compared to what she did, compared to what other singers did.
Calling the Pope a Nazi was stupid, since there was not a grain of truth in that. And Charlotte was wrong to say that. However, I like that she's able to laugh at herself, which is a skill alot of celebrities her age can't seem to master. Worshiping the Saint of Fortified Wine was a joke that she was completely ready to take on herself. A joke created by an image the tabloids sprung on her unfairly. Kudos to Charlotte for not being weepy about it, unlike, say, Nicola Benedetti.

An interesting thought Jon but: isn't that repeating an existing format, simply changing the person and would that not remove the one aspect that is Hayley, that gorgeous voice singing? I accept she has the intellectual/cultural qualities of a Parkinson and that is certainly an aspect she could handle. Peter

Hi Peter, Maybe Hayley could sing the questions to her guests? i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gifWhat I meant was Hayley would be the perfect lady on the show and would actually be interested in the guests. Hayley would sing on the show. In fact she could duet with the musical guest at the end of it. How about the show having all the guests as musicians? We going off topic now, but what she could do is one of those 'audience with' programmes. What do you think? I think thats achievable.

Diversity and difference certainly open up all sorts of opportunities but you have a key phrase there, she certainly would be 'a lady'! Her expressed desire lead by example by doing her bit to help make the world a better place (the gist of her response when interviewed) would certainly help to raise public standards. Peter S.

Hello everybody! If anybody missed the first Charlotte Church Show last Friday, as I did, it is being repeated tonight on Channel 4 at 11:40pm British Summer Time. I might watch it tonight, but I might not! Best Wishes, Richard

And here is the brief description of next Friday's show, according to online Radio Times:
The Voice of an Angel shows she has other strings to her harp with her own show, featuring a mix of celebrity guests, sketches, candid camera stunts and audience fun and, of course, a little singing. Charlotte is joined in the studio by actress Patsy Kensit and Charlotte also joins Orson to provide music.
Channel 4 webpage for Charlotte Church seems to crash when I access it. They do not appear to give new program content. I shall not therefore include the URL.
