It has been very quiet on the board for the last 50 minutes. Has everyone been watching Charlotte?
I sincerely hope that Hayley has not.
I would hate her to get any ideas.
Like that.
Thank goodness Jonathan Woss comes back next week.
And Hayley will be back for the RAH on Sunday.

Hi Drew...
I was really keen on Charlotte's music back in 2004...but I haven't been following her much lately. I wonder how she got on with her show on Channel 4 ? Porhaps a bad bweak for our man Wossy?
For those who don't know...Charlotte Church now has her own talk show. The first show was Sept. 1st. Charl's chat show is on at the same time as 'Friday Night With Jonathan Ross'...a popular talk show.
It was another Jonathan Ross program "The Big Big Talent Show" who gave Charlotte her first publicity nine years ago. Wasn't that when Charl's Auntie Caroline sang?
Good luck on your show ,Charl!
Cheers, Joe

Judging from the reviews I read, someone should call out the RAF, because the last time anyone bombed like this in the UK was during the Blitz.

I hope that nobody recorded this because the tape would probably self destruct.
No need for Charlotte to follow in the steps of Gordon Ramsey by using the "F" word.
It is not often that Channel 4 bothers to use the beep button.

19 posts since 2004 says it all ! Ms Church's performance on Channel 4 last night maintained the standard we have come to expect from her. Please God she doesn't have Hayley as a guest.

I bought Charlotte's first CD which I really liked.
Nowadays I find her more of an embarassment, Especially when people who know I like Hayley say things like "Oh, isn't she like Charlotte Church"!!!!!
I have to bite my tongue and politely point out that she is nothing like her. OUCH!!
Back to the posts. I didn't watch THAT show 'cos I guessed what she would be like and I'm sure Hayley would NEVER accept an invitation to be a guest (Hayley, if you read this, please don't!).

Hi everyone, I'm not into Charlotte bashing (I'm not saying that anyone in this thread is) and I haven't read any reviews of her new chat show yet. But I did record it "just in case", I watched the start of it and I had another look about 15 minutes in. I should add that I've always been impressed with how articulate Charlotte has been in TV and radio interviews from a very young age... so I was not surprised when she did get some TV work and I was interested to see what it was like. But my initial impressions were not good. They gave her some silly song to sing as an introduction (yes it really was silly) but equally noticeable to me was her voice, which sounded weak compared to how I remember it in years gone by. Then she sat down on the obligatory couch with a couple of guests whom, perhaps, I should have known - but I didn't - so I switched channels to watch The News. After about 15 minutes I had another look and Charlotte was involved in some kind of quiz game with her and two others (neither of whom I recognised - could have been the original two again) on the panel and I'm afraid at point I'd had enough. The format reminded me of a show that Channel 4 have been running recently with the pop group Girls Aloud and frankly, I found that absolutely mind-numbingly boring... so dumbed-down that I would think twice before letting my two year-old grand daughter watch it. I'm not saying Charlotte's show is like that but judging by what Channel 4 did with Girls Aloud and some similar shows I recall, the signs aren't good. I will certainly reserve final judgement until I've watched more of my recording of it but so far... oh dear. This does not necessarily mean that with additional experience and/or a different type of TV work she cannot do better in the future... it's early days and the apparent problem may be the format and production rather than Charlotte herself. The most interesting aspect for me will be seeing if the TV exposure causes her last (pop) album to climb the charts again. Cheers, Dave

Please note, my comment was on the show, not CC herself. We can get to THAT subject another time, maybe after the initial 8-episode run can be looked back on.

Grant Hi Grant, I also bought Charlotte Church's first album when it was released. Do you rememeber 'Suo Gân' from the CD? Well that song is also included in the soundtrack to 'Empire of the Sun' please refer to the soundtrack listing in the following thread hereOh, you will also find 'Suo Gân' on the latest Aled Jones album too! Regards, Andrew

I like Charlotte Church now more than Charlotte Church before. At least now she's honest about who she is, instead of keeping up that simpering mask that she's some child prodigy. Which she wasn't.
Now she sounds like the kind of person I'd like to go out for a drink and lots of good food, bawdy and raucuous but all in good fun.
Though the Channel 4 show was a bad move.

Hi Richard, I think you are being kind to describe those reviews as mixed! The only review not to be negative was the one that wasn't a review at all - it just compared the audience ratings of Charlotte's first show with its (failed) predecessor's final show and even that warned that she will be up against stiffer competition next week. Watching the first show (in my case out of curiosity) doesn't imply that you liked it... For me, the following extract from the Independent's review sums it up (and is more or less what i said the other day): Let's hope the producers take note of what was said. Cheers, Dave

I think Charlotte's smart enough to either rework the format or pull the plug on the project. So, we'll see. I don't see why she couldn't just record another album though.

I think Dave has hit the nail right on the head. ;)Anyway, the really important night comes this coming Friday where we see if CC can hold her own against the king of late-night chat, Jonathan Ross. And which is it, 1.6M or 2.6M viewers, BTW? I find it interesting that a lot of CC's fans are calling Sharon Osborne's 1.9M showing a failure when in fact it may have pulled in more viewers. Hmmm. Of course the trailer-park trash that run some of her sites are posting the usual junk about not caring what the critics say, that THEY liked it, so I guess that's all that matters. Yeah right. And Portia, I have to say, what you said borders on reverse snobbism, effectively implying that someone who's into raising Cain at pubs and clubs is somehow better than someone who does something a little more high class. Hey, I am not averse to going out Friday night and washing a thick, greasy bacon burger down with a few Lynchburg lemonades while talking loudly about nothing of substance, then sipping high-end coffee and eating smoked salmon while discussing the fine points of law with the League of Municipalities on Saturday, and anyone who'd think the less of me for either is a snob. Eh, ratings are king, but complaints can be the king-unmaker, more than a few shows have been yanked because the offended viewers to the point that they complained in sufficient numbers ("Public Morals" "Scorch"). We will see. As for another album, who knows? The original contract was for six and that's done now. There have been rumors of a contract for more, but nothing official, and there have also been rumors of Sony dropping CC. Quite frankly I can see the latter easily, they've made their pile off of her and she may have sold 300,000 of Tissues and Issues, but she sold 10 million of the classical albums, and they aren't going to get results like that again from her. Time to throw away this orange and pluck the next one to squeeze dry.

Wow Fusilier, thanks for snap judgment right there.
I for one am not adverse to a fancy French restaurant with impeccably made and presented food and I'm also just as happy downing pizza in front of the TV watch episode after episode of House. So you see, we're very much alike.
