Line-up for Dales festival announed

FANS of Grassington Festival can look forward to a line-up filled with international star quality next year.

Organisers have announced that artists performing include renowned guitarist John Williams, the classic Irish folk rock group The Saw Doctors and comedienne Jo Brand.

Fans of classical music and singing can look forward to a performance by New Zealand born Hayley Westenra, who boasts the fastest selling debut album in the history of British classical charts.

Full details and information of advanced ticket sales will be posted later.

Thanks Drew but absolutely... NOT confirmed. As you know, we've had plenty of examples of concert and festival venues jumping the gun with such announcements particularly when they are so far iin advance. They do not always happen - so when the details are announced by the festival organizers in early December (they say), this should be remembered.

Incidentally, the 2006 festival took place in the second half of June and featured Katherine Jenkins so the fact that the festival organisers clearly would like Hayley to be there next time is good for Hayley and may turn out to be good for us... if she confirms.

I'll move this thread to the Hayley in Concert board. It's still all a bit vague so i haven't added it to the schedule yet.

Regardless of status, how interesting.

Did I start something by announcing I was seeing Hayley in Harrogate, perhaps rather than Sheffield as I know Harrogate but have not visited (but passed through) Sheffield, because I was going to the Grassington Festival the next day, thirty miles or so down the road?!!!

Apparently the date for this event has been changed but I have not been told when it will be. However, Hayley's involvement IS CONFIRMED.

We will insert it into the schedule once the date is known.

Dales festival releases more line-up details

THE Grassington Festival Committee has revealed more details of who will head its summer 2007 line-up.

Performers include four chart-topping artistes in their respective genres - Irish folk/rock band The Saw Doctors, sweet-voiced singer Hayley Westenra, classical guitarist John Williams and droll comedienne Jo Brand.

They will provide a fitting finale at the Festival in the Field marquee events, which have become a highlight of the two-week music and arts festival held in June each year.

Tickets for Festival in the Field will go on general sale in April, but will be available for just two weeks in December so people can buy them for Christmas presents.

Festival chairman Joan Haspel said: "Popular events like these always sell out quickly, so the sooner people get their tickets the better."

The Festival in the Field begins on Wednesday June 27 with a performance of Puccini's Madame Butterfly. Soloists from newly-formed opera company Utility Opera, accompanied by the Skipton Building Society Camerata orchestra, will be supported by an amateur chorus drawn from the local community.

Comedienne Jo Brand will appear the following night. The Independent described her as "Britain's finest female comedian in years" while the Daily Mirror said: "Sussed, polemic, deceptively droll, Jo Brand provides a razor-sharp perspective on all that is sexist and sizist".

Despite her wealth of television work, including "Have I Got News for You" and "Never Mind the Buzzcocks", Jo says nothing tops the thrill of live theatre. She will be supported by fellow comedian Andy Robinson.

Hayley Westenra will take to the marquee stage on Friday June 29. At only 18, she has already seen her second album twice top the UK classical charts, demonstrating her mastery across musical styles from classical to sacred and folk.

She will be supported by angelic sounding choirboy boy-band Libera.

The festival will close on Saturday June 30 with a fitting finale by The Saw Doctors, Ireland's premier folk/rock band.

They have had a dedicated following since they rocketed to number one in the charts at Christmas 1990 with "I useta love her" - Ireland's biggest selling single.

Festival director Amelia Vyvyan said: "We have been trying to persuade The Saw Doctors to visit Grassington for years and we're delighted they have been able to join us at last."

The full line-up of other festival guests will not be known until March, but the organisers are hoping to reveal some more names next week.

Tickets for the Festival in the Field range from £16.50 to £22 and will be available from December 8 to 23 at the Dales Bookshop Grassington; by telephone on 01756 752691; or via the festival's website.

A YORKSHIRE DALES music and arts festival is promising some sing-sational summer nights ahead as organisers announce initial details of the 2007 programme - and for the first time, fans can buy tickets online.

Grassington Festival will feature three chart-topping artists in their respective genres - Irish folk/rock band The Saw Doctors; sweet voiced singer Hayley Westenra; and droll comedienne Jo Brand - for a fitting finale at the Festival in the Field marquee events which have become a highlight of the two-week music and arts festival at the end of June.

Tickets for Festival in the Field line-up will go on pre-Christmas sale for just two weeks from 8-23 December - for the first time these tickets are available online from the festival website.

"Popular events like these always sell out quickly so the sooner people get their tickets the better," says festival chairman Joan Haspel.

"Also, it's good to have something Summery to look forward to in cold mid-winter."

The four-night finale in the marquee begins on Wednesday 27 June, with a special performance of Puccini's Madame Butterfly.

Jo Brand has been described as "Britain's finest female comedian in years" and will take to the stage on Thursday 28 June.

Friday 29 June is Hayley Westenra's night. At only 19 years of age, Hayley has already seen her second album twice top the UK classical charts.

The Festival's Last Night on Saturday 30 June belongs to The Saw Doctors, Ireland's premier rock/folk band. They have had a dedicated following since they rocketed to Number One in the charts for Christmas 1990 with 'I useta love her'.
