Are any other UK residents going to be tuning into the new BBC 1 music show Just The Two of Us to see Russell Watson tonight?

Hi Sal, I might if I can tear myself away from these forums! However, the listing magazines I have seen don't name Russell. We shall see... or maybe we won't! Roger

Hi All, In fact by the time I had my recorder running, the programme had already started, so I missed the first 30 seconds or so. This is a very interesting one. It would appear that "Just The Two of Us" is going to be a weekly competition, starting with 8 impromptu duets, and each week one gets voted out. The reason why Russell wasn't announced is that he was a late replacement. On tonight's episode, he came equal second by the judges - but the people in the UK have the chance of changing that by casting their vote. You have the time until tomorrow evening (Friday, 24 February) to cast your vote for Russell and his partner, Sian Reeves, singing "I can't help falling in love with you" via telephone number 0901 121 22 04 Tomorrow evening it will be reported who has to depart after the first round (I will be recording this and adding it to tonight's video ...) This looks like an interesting saga! You can download the essential parts of tonight's show via this link: www.classicalrelatedperformances.com/russellwatson/jttou/justthetwoofus230206.wmvTo be continued .... Gerrit

Hi all,
Interesting show, it's like a combination of American Idol and Dancing with the Stars. In the beginning of Russell's part, he sounded almost exactly like Elvis! That was cool, thanks Gerrit for posting it!
I actually received an email from some Universal Music UK mailinglist last Friday regarding Russel Watson's appearance on the show.
Allen
Edit: I made the text in the quote larger. Richard

Actually, tonight will be the second installment - so it won't be a weekly programme. Tonight's programme is scheduled to run for 90 minutes. Apparently, Russell had to practice 10 songs with Sian Reeves - it's going to be interesting to see how this impromptu partnership develops . Gerrit

I just watched the first episode - and am watching the second one now! I hope you keep up with it Gerrit, because I love it! i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gifRussell is just brilliant as usual... and his partner is actually quite good as well! And you have to remember, she is really an actress - not a singer, so what she's doing is pretty incredible... even if I'm not crazy about all the pop stuff! I think the most amazing part about it is, that looking and watching Russell you'd never know he ever had vocal problems!! So, Go Russell and Sian! :2fun: I'll be crossing my fingers - and toes - that they win!

Thanks Gerrit! Among the contestants, I think Russel and Sian got the most potential. It's hard to tell Sian only got one week of training, she's certainly better than most of the [Country Name] Idols out there Hopefully they'll win the competition. Allen

Well I am surprised and delighted that Russell and his partner Sian Reeves made it into the semi-final (last three) tonight. Russell sung his part in their second song "All I Ask of You" from phantom of the Opera SUPERBLY - I've rarely if ever heard him sing better on live TV.
Unfortunately the same couldn't be said of Sian. She was extremely nervous, worried actually - and it showed especially at the start of the song which she badly messed up. She got a little better as the song progressed then broke down in tears as soon as they had finished. Russel was very comforting (again!) and even the judges were as kind as they could be in the circumstances. I think the viewers who voted were even kinder (sympathy) as they placed them 2nd out of 4!!!
Fortunately, there was one worse "non singer" still in the competition - Penny Smith was overall worse then Sian so she and Curtis Stigers were (finally!) voted off.
But I cannot see Russell and Sian progressing tonight to the final tomorrow. Natasha Hamilton/Mark Moraghan and Jo O’Meara/Chris Fountain are so much better than Sian Reeves and *anybody* that I doubt if even an "on form" Russell can save them. It will take a huge sympathy vote from the public to keep them in as the judges will surely place them in last place.

Russell did a phenomenal job on "All I Ask of You," but I think Lulu said it best in that the song was just out of her range - and style, I might add... but she did do her best! Com'on all you lovely Brits make them win!

Well, They did make it thorugh to the final. Out of the 6 remaining singers, Sian was definitely the weakest link. I don't agree with Tashi though about her tears from yesterday - I do think there was a lot of genuine, pent-up emotion in that. Anyway, I have half an hour of coverage of the semi final, in three separate videos: You Don't Know Me: www.classicalrelatedperformances.com/russellwatson/jttou/justthetwoofus040306a.wmvBarcelona: www.classicalrelatedperformances.com/russellwatson/jttou/justthetwoofus040306b.wmvYou've Lost That Loving Feeling (with Curtis) + the public's verdict www.classicalrelatedperformances.com/russellwatson/jttou/justthetwoofus040306c.wmvFor complete coverage, see groups.msn.com/RussellWatsonHayleyWestenra/justthetwo.msnwMy guess is that Mark and Natasha will turn out the eventual winners. As a duo, they perform definitely better than Sian and Russell. Actually, I think that overall, they were the best pair. As to Russell's singing, ever since he had his health scare, his voice has gained significantly in emotion and depth - and personally I thought he was the best individual singer out there (but that's maybe because I am biased ) Anyway, it has been great fun to keep up-to-date with this competition. Well thanks to Gerrit posting tonight's semi final on his "Two of Us" page (the link is just above this post) I finally know now who is in Sunday's final. My own recording missed off the results segment at the end, due to the programme over-running I won't say what happened in case anyone wants to watch their own or Gerrit's recording but suffice it to say... it's well worth watching if you are in any way interested in it. My reaction after viewing all tonights' performances was that the worst performance of the professionals was Jo O’Meara and I think the best was probably Russell. Of the amateurs, I had Mark first Chris second and and Sian last - in my personal opinion. But whatever the rules say, my vote would have gone to the best *duo* not the best amateur. Now, the judges seem to vote exclusively on the performance of the amateur member of each duo so you can guess who they had in last place. The public can, however, vote for any reason they want and it means you can never be sure who will win - or come last. Nuff said... Dave
