Hi Rodders,
According to a news report, Russell was taken ill during a recording session last week (I think). He underwent an operation to remove a brain tumour last night. Early indications are that he is doing well and hopes to be ready to tour in November.
I'm sure we all wish him well.

A report is available at bbc.co.uk but is transcribed below. Roger ---------------------------------------- Brain surgery for Russell Watson Opera singer Russell Watson is "in good spirits" after an emergency operation to remove a brain tumour. The benign lump was discovered while Watson, 39, was recording his new album in Los Angeles. He flew back to London for a five-hour operation on Monday, which successfully removed the 8cm tumour. Watson's album, due out in November, will now be released in early 2007. But his UK tour in November and December is still expected to go ahead. Further recording is on hold until Watson has fully recovered from the operation, which took place at St George's Hospital in south London. Grateful The singer was examined in Los Angeles after developing a severe headache and impaired vision. He had to wait two days to find out if the tumour was malignant or not, during which he carried on recording. "Russell wishes to pay his sincere thanks and appreciation to the entire medical team at St George's Hospital who successfully carried out the operation," said a spokeswoman for the Salford-born tenor. "He is obviously very relieved that the operation has been a success and is in good spirits. He is now resting and we are told by the doctor he will make a complete recovery," she added. Watson, who used to be a factory worker before he turned to singing, has sold more than 4 million albums worldwide.

I was shocked when I heard about this a few minutes ago. I am very thankful Russell is doing well.

Thanks for the detail Roger. This only appeared on Classic FM news early this morning, it took time to filter through to other channels. He has had a rough time, it is only two years ago that he had a similar operation on his throat. I am sure that our thoughts are with him for a speedy recovery.

Russell's new album will be released on March 5th 2007. It is called "That's Life" and judging by the track listing at HMV it is a pop album. Russell did not take part in the 2007 series of "Just The Two of Us" because he has not yet fully recovered from his operation last year. Statement here.He is hopefully on the mend though, as he will be going on tour in March. The album seems to have been recorded before his operation but the release date was delayed because of it. I hope the rescheduled date (a week after Hayley) does not adversely affect her sales too much (and vice-versa) but if we want to discuss that aspect, it will be better done in the Treasure sub-board. That album looks a bit swingy. I really think Russell should stop being classed as classical now, I thought the last album was too poppy, but this one goes even further.

I am judging solely on the DVD with Hayley at Aukland and that was a far too poppy concert for me then. So I'm inclined to support your view on that evidence alone, Nicola. Petert S.

This has nothing to do with Just The Two Of Us - it is simply the most recent Russell Watson thread here. - that's why I am posting here. OK, more historic coverage about Russell Watson: Hi All, I have just uploaded a number of new videos featuring Russell Watson (although some go back to 2002) First of all, there is a video of the FA Cup 2007, in which Russell sang the British National Anthem. This video also features Lesley Garrett and Sarah Brightman performing Abide With Me, and Prince William opening the new Wembley Stadium. www.classicalrelatedperformances.com/russellwatson/facup190507.wmv Then there are a number of videos from way back in 2002, from the US, for instance Russell appearing on the Wayne Brady show, performing Music of the Night on Bravo Channel, performing Ave Maria at a function in dedication of the Iraqi involvement of American troops in the aftermath of September 11, and performing Panis Angelicus and Adeste Fidelis at Liverpool Chapel: www.classicalrelatedperformances.com/russellwatson/us/avemaria.wmv www.classicalrelatedperformances.com/russellwatson/us/liverpoolchapel.wmv www.classicalrelatedperformances.com/russellwatson/us/musicofthenight.wmv www.classicalrelatedperformances.com/russellwatson/us/waynebrady.wmv www.classicalrelatedperformances.com/russellwatson/us/swinglow.wmv There are also new (better quality) versions available of Russell performing Bridge Over Troubled Waters in duet with Sissel and his appearance on the Caroline Rhea Show: www.classicalrelatedperformances.com/russellwatson/us/botw_sissel.wmv www.classicalrelatedperformances.com/russellwatson/us/carolinerhea031002. wmv I received tapes of these from Mimi in Hawaii almost 4 years ago, but because the US uses the NTSC system and I am used to PAL, I was until now unable to convert most of these to digital format - but recently I acquired a hard disk recorder - and that worked! Enjoy Gerrit PS The FA Cup video is available permanently from the "return" page in the Russell Downloads section at my MSN Group: groups.msn.com/RussellWatsonHayleyWestenra/return.msnw and the other new videos on the USvideos page there: groups.msn.com/RussellWatsonHayleyWestenra/usvideos.msnw Gerrit
