Hi everyone,
Steve Abbott has confirmed that the forthcoming tour of Germany is cancelled. No reason was given but we assume it is in favour of Hayley's appearance at the Cape Breton Festival.
My thanks to Thomas who brought the possible cancellation to my attention earlier this evening. He tells me that refunds are available provided you apply within seven days!

Roger,
this seems strange when Cape Breton was 06/10 and the first German concert (Cologne) was 11/10.
Does this suggest that Hayley is staying to perform at Cape Breton for more than the one original performance?

Your guess is as good as mine, Drew. Without knowing any other reason, I am inclined to believe it may be so.

Does this suggest that Hayley is staying to perform at Cape Breton for more than the one original performance? Is it possible that her trip to Seoul in November for "Outstanding Young Person Of The World" will take up time that would be needed for recording the new album? Thus requiring her to begin this process straight after Cape Breton - It's a thought? Grant

Let's hope it isn't due to poor ticket sales! Hayley is usually a guaranteed sell-out wherever she performs . A schedule and recording conflict seems more plausible

Hello everyone,
My guess (and that's all it is) is that the proposed album preparation and recording schedule turned out to be too tight and that more time is needed; Pure and Odyssey both took a lot longer than a month to complete. I'm sorry for our friends in Germany but it is, of course, very important to get the next album right. Song selection and preparation must of course take place well in advance of the recording studio time booked for November.
Hayley cannot afford to overrun this time - Christmas will be here all too soon and the timescale to the suggested February release date is very tight. I would feel a lot happier about the new album if the tour cancellation was for that reason so I hope no further concert dates will be added this month, other than the one date in Canada and of course the Young Persons' awards.
Cheers, Dave

It certainly isn't appreciated on our beloved railway when things go wrong and all the staff vanish!! A brief explanation will appease most people, even if it doesn't solve the problem. Grant

Hi! The whole plan of the German tour was a bit ... let's say weird. The tour in October was announced in May when Hayley came to Germany with Il Divo. I met her there for the first time. After that we heard nothing about it, no venues, no details, no single word until the last days of August when nobody really believed anymore that there will be a tour. Everything should have been stopped at this point and not one week prior to the tour start. I was already in July a bit worried and asked Hayley during Toast NZ if she knew already any details about the German tour. She answered that she would like to know some details but unfortuneately she didn't. She said that there will definitely a tour and it will be definitely this year. But this was in July so her management had a few weeks until now to overthrow the old schedule. The way Hayley talked to me ... I think she liked to have the German tour. At least I hope to be right about the last point here. Thomas

Grant I agree with all this. We should push for an announcement to be made as to why? Even if it implies she was over-reaching herself. Pacing and getting it right is so important. She has cancelled before but mercifully she has not yet acquired a 'no show' reputation but it doesn't take much and once uncertainty builds, as to whether she will show or not, then fall off or fall out starts a serious long-term slide. People won't rush to book. That then creates uncertainty as to whether or not she will make a break-even audience and that worsens decisions about running with it and risks half-empty theatres if she does go ahead. Peter S.

I totally forgot to mention that I received a newsletter from Hayley's German website on 28th September advertising Hayley's German tour. How ridiculous is that? Thomas

Thomas And the official German Hayley Westenra (Decca) site is still showing the schedule (although the ticket office has now withdrawn sale of tickets). www.hayleywestenra.de/tour.php

Well Drew that's about par for the course for the official website isn't it ?! Since it's run by Decca, maybe their main concern is CDs rather than tours ?! Lucky we've got this site to keep us informed ! Well said Grant and Peter, I think the disappointed German fans DO deserve an explanation as to why the tour was cancelled at barely a week's notice. I remember Thomas telling me at Cadogan how much he was looking forward to seeing her at Cologne. Maybe the new album does need more time but didn't something similar happen when she was recording "Odyssey" and a US tour had to be scrapped ?

Hi everyone, I just came home from a business trip when I found two messages in my e-mailbox notifying me of the cancellation. Yes, TWO, as I had booked two concerts and was eagerly looking forward to enjoying Hayley twice in the coming two weeks. Now I am doubly disappointed, especially as no reason was given. I trust that Hayley did not cancel her tour lightly but that certain circumstances left her with no other choice. Still, I'm very sad now... Please come visit us soon again, Hayley! Holger
