Hi everyone ,
like Lothar I also attended the J. Carreras Gala in Leipzig.
However, I do disagree with some of the points that Lothar mentioned.
To begin with, I feel that Pokarekare Ana was a good choice as people over here unfortunately are not so familiar with Hayley as she would deserve it and PA has almost become Hayley's signature tune which helps someone not knowing Hayley's work as good as we do to recognize her immediately. Also, as it occurred to me later, had Hayley performed a song from ODYSSEY and people had wanted to buy that record they would have only been able to buy an import version. Yet, I could very well imagine that Universal will release a German edition that includes songs that aim specifically at local audiences, and if I remember correctly then Steve indicated to me something in that direction in London.
Also, I do not share Lothar's view on Hayley's stage setting. Hayley moved pleasantly little if compared e.g. to the unbearably affected performance by Carla "Audi Q7" Vallet. Hayley's rather modest but still very dignified demeanor definitely won her many sympathies.
That applause for Hayley was restrained unfortunately is true but one must not overlook the following factors: (1) The very sad overtone of the show, (2) Hayley sang very early and experience teaches that audiences usually start getting up from their seats during the last third of a concert - at least in Germany, and (3) it's not fair to compare Hayley to very well-known superstars as Elton John and Liza Minelli; also Lena Valaitis is widely known over here.
Hayley, you performed wonderfully and I am positive that Germany not too long from now will embrace you heartily as Lothar and I as well as everyone else here already have . I only feel ashamed that I didn't give you standing ovations as I had planned - I was a coward, please forgive me . We are looking forward very much to having you back with us in Spring. And I promise you will see me jumping up from seat then .
With best wishes from Germany,
Holger
