Hi All, Sad kiwi here too Who ever made the decision made a very stupid one Which i think will backfire . The live anthem is as much apart of a international Rugby game as the game it self. In New Zealand amongst the people i have talked to every one is shocked and it has opened old wounds. But I'm sure it will now spur the All Blacks on to try to bring the cup to the side of the world where it was initiated i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gifThey will probably use the old slow anthem music where Hayley would have sung the more up beat one. I hope we see on our TV screens Hayley in the stands singing proudly for her country . i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gif i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gifBelinda

Thanks for the link, Belinda! I'm really impressed by the way Hayley carries on smiling, even though she must be bitterly disappointed. She is still going to the matches to support the All Blacks, so I really do hope they win now! Best Wishes, Richard

Thanks for the link to the interview Belinda. It shows Hayley's true character, the way she keeps smiling because it's clear that she is very disappointed and I really feel for her at this time. I agree wholeheartedly with everything Dave says. It is indeed disgraceful the way the French are behaving and to have a French choir sing other countries anthems is nothing short of an insult. It seems clear now, that the concensus is this is a deliberate ploy to favour the home side. God willing it will backfire bigtime! I think it's only our respect for Stephany that is keeping this thread from turning blue! Best wishes Grant

It is sad to hear that Hayley cannot sing for New Zealand in the matches. Raymond

Yes, wouldn't it be great if France and New Zealand both got to the final and the All Blacks thrashed them in front of their home crowd ?! i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gif It still sticks in my throat that the French beat England in their warm up match, but then we beat the Welsh so that's something !

Thank you for the link to the video, Belinda.
Near the beginning, Hayley mentioned that her schedule has been worked around the matches. We haven't even mentioned that aspect yet but, for all we know, some important bookings *might* have been turned down for what turns out to be no reason. The same is true of all the other performers, of course. It is scandellous that this decision was made so late in the day.
It is interesting to witness the strength of feeling from the Brits here. Imagine how our kiwi friends must be feeling.
Roger

What a beautiful clip that is Belinda....this sort of thing is going to send Kiwi support thru the roof ......may well have the opposite effect to that intended......I love the sudden ending & the expression on her face......says everything. Graeme

I suspect it is a French psycological trick to try and win--they think if their (All Blacks') mascot isn't active the French might win! However, she's still going to be with them and that I think is what really counts.

Hello James,
Thanks for that full-screen video link. One can see the disappointment in Hayley's face. But the no live anthem decision has been made and it has hurt both sides.

I hope you won't take my earlier comments, hoping the French team get knocked out early as any sort of anti French sentiment. I actually love the French people and their country, having lived and worked in Paris for a while, taken the trouble to learn the language, and I still work for a French company, although I am now based in England. We have recently come home from a nearly three week holiday in our motor caravan in the Loire valley and Brittany, which we thoroughly enjoyed. It is just that I was really looking forward to hearing Hayley sing the anthem. Not that the anthem is a particularly challenging thing for her to sing, or will in any way be a showcase for her wonderful talents, In fact I suspect that most anthems are designed to be easy to sing. It could even be that I was cheated out of the opportunity to hear Hayley in concert with Celtic Woman because of the Rugby world cup (although we know that CW have other problems, so that is not certain). And I know that it is unlikely that there will ever be another chance to experience that! Presumably the only TV crew that will be allowed will be a French one. So there is no chance that a NZ or British crew could sneak a microphone to Hayley, so that WE could hear her sing the anthem even if the people in the stadium can't. But maybe Hayey isn't so subversive as that!

Hi Ron, You may well be right in saying it will be an orchestral version. Somehow, to have a recording of any singer seems to defeat the point of refusing them to appear personally. Welcome to the forum, by the way. Roger Hi Roger Thanks for the welcome. I hope to make some useful input to the forum. Ron
