Like Libby, I was somewhat under-whelmed, but I suspect that this was largely down to poor sound quality on the recording making Hayley's voice sound flat, thin, and, as Libby said, somewhat "nasal". It could also be down to poor PA quality in the venue, but I recon this is unlikely. By "flat", I mean lacking the depth, breadth and colour that makes her singing so appealing, not that it was out of tune.

Yes, the sound quality probably has an effect, but it was also the way the notes were too "talky" in some places. Not a very singy-song, if that makes any sense. Not a very good tune, and too many words all in one space, with practically the same note. It just doesn't show off the voice, no matter how good the voice is. However, the parts where she says "Ohhhh" towards the end of the first clip (the one that was posted twice  ) sound great. It's just the beginning I mainly wasn't keen on. |

Here's another snippet; speaking of "less", I like this part even less. I think the problem is it does not suit her voice well, plus it's just not the catchiest song:  ha ha ha That's an iconic Australian song!!! Trust me, it's very catchy.  We play it as the last song at my work's Christmas party each year and my sister actually walked down the isle at her wedding to it). Here's the proper original version by Daryl Braithwaite. Prepared to bet that an Australian expat or someone with ties to Australia asked Hayley to sing that. Usually the original singer Daryl Braithwaite sings it each racing season at some of the events. |

This is a different song than the other one, I've just realized. The other one is by that one guy who said he wrote it. Didn't like that guy's voice, too strained sounding, and MEH... I wouldn't walk down an aisle or an isle to this song!  But I listened to Hayley's clip again, and actually it didn't sound too bad, and her voice sounded better here. The other song, not so much. Anyway, you'll see I'm not alone in my dislike of the song(s): Tacky song, I love it. Haha |

Not keen on it personally. But Hayley has always had a knack of taking tacky songs that I'm not keen on and making them sound decent. "Mother of Mine" is a good example.

You'll have to switch to the 3rd photo on your own, if you're able to. I never listen to that, but if I had to choose one or the other... I think you can guess which one I'd choose. LOL Honestly, I'd probably have to hear Hayley sing the entire thing to judge it fairly, but, we're lucky we heard any of it, I guess. I just wish we knew what else she sang. I thought I saw somewhere that she was singing 4 songs. What other songs might fit with the theme? |
