Hello Libby! I said Josh Groban's range was as good as Plácido Domingo's, so he can sing tenor as well as baritone. I now realise it wasn't the compliment to Josh that I intended. Richard

And giving their spiteful views free publicity. Not worth taking 'them' seriously. You'll note that I didn't provide the link to the source. Though of course, if you do a search, you're sure to find it immediately. If they think Hayley sounds whiny, do you really think they're checking out any of her forums? Not a chance! Others will - potential fans (lost through over defensiveness).

Well, no fans will be gained by that miserable article, that's for sure. If they've never heard of Hayley, then the negative comments will certainly not create any fans to be lost by anyone. Of course, plenty of Placido fans will still buy the album and be able to judge her voice for themselves. I don't think anyone on this forum has ever done anything to cause potential fans to be lost, Paddy. It's certainly not anyone who posts here regularly, and makes a daily effort to promote Hayley and reach out to new fans. Nope, nobody that I know. Though I certainly think it's better to have an active forum with an occasional disagreement here and there instead of a dead silent one.

Richard LOL That's okay, I understand what you meant. You find it interesting that when Josh was first asked to fill in for Andrea Bocelli to sing the Prayer with Celine Dion, he wasn't sure about hitting the higher notes in the song. Needless to say, he hit them just fine, and that performance was one of the things that really launched his career. And ever since then, he's sung plenty of songs that have tenor and even falsetto notes in them.

Negative, dismissive or inane comments (from whatever source) on a Hayley forum can dampen curiosity and create a bad impression and turn off even existing fans (particularly when given undue and prolonged attention).

Negative, dismissive or inane comments (from whatever source) on a Hayley forum can dampen curiosity and create a bad impression and turn off even existing fans (particularly when given undue and prolonged attention). Assuming you're referring to the negative comments I found in the article: Because of those unpleasant comments, I was not originally planning to share that at all. But, since the subject of quality of singing on this particular album came up, I decided to briefly mention it. But, as I say, I didn't post the whole article because it was negative, and only very briefly mentioned Hayley. I see no harm in that. Is there some unspoken rule about posting, or even mentioning an article that says something even remotely negative about Hayley? If the moderators find it offensive, they can delete it. If a person really likes a singer enough that they'd do a search and find a fan forum, then no comments are going to prevent them from becoming a fan of that singer. That would be ridiculous. The worst that could happen is that they wouldn't join the forum. But, I seriously doubt that is the main reason for a fan not joining. Hayley has lots and lots of fans whom we've never encountered on a forum. Not all fans of music are interested in forums. And those who are don't necessarily join the forums, or feel the need to post regularly. Also, most people realize forums aren't run by the singer themselves. Most people also realize that people on forums do tend to discuss and possibly disagree on things on occasion.

If there are so many terrible comments on this forum, the moderators can deal with them as they see fit. Right, Richard, Joe, etc.? Absolutely, Libby! A few negative comments are perfectly acceptable, as long as they don't get too nasty. Richard

Exactly, Libby...any comment be it positive or negative is always welcome. I think it promotes a good discussion. It is very rare to see a very personal and terrible comment directed at another member here; most of the time it is just a poor choice of words that may be misunderstood.

Thank you Joe and Richard for your reassurance. I'm certainly not going to let anyone chase ME off this forum. I know I'm not perfect, and frequently wonder if everyone would be happier if I disappeared from the forum. But every time, I'm reminded that I AM welcome here, and I'm not going to let one person chase me off. I'm certainly not here to please those people, since they cannot be pleased. I'm here because I BELONG here. Hayley, of all people, knows that I do, and I value her opinion very much. There also times when it's people like her who are the only ones who remind me I belong on this earth...

No 'jabs' ever, Libby. Ask any member who knows me personally. Personal attack benefits nobody.

Thank you for that info, Joe. Obviously I prefer Tolkien over Shakespeare. I'm disappointed that that album preview didn't contain Hayley's duet! Jackie Evancho's, either, for that matter. Oh well. I now remember who was accused of groaning, it was Helene Fischer. However, I didn't agree with that, any more than I think Hayley is whiny. The only one I didn't care for was Vincent Niclo, who is a prime example of too much vibrato, Simba, at least IMO. After Richard's comments, I was expecting the worst, but I didn't find it intolerable. I'm not crazy about most opera, but I didn't find it any worse than any other opera I've ever heard. Though I'll take your word for it that he sounded better in his younger days. I would not rank him my least favorite male duet partner of Hayley's. Though definitely not my favorite. I am now going to delete the recent unpleasant post, and edit the rest, now that I've gotten it off my chest. I don't want all that negativity on this forum any more than the rest of you do. Christmas Eve is not a good day to be having spats, not that any day is, but I don't want to ruin it for anyone else.

Now what was it that the Bard said about protesting too much? "If music be the food of love, don't forget the Alka-Seltzer!" Actually I needed it after Classic FM's marathon 48 hours of nothing but Christmas music. Happily they're getting back to normal today with just a light sprinkling of Christmas favourites. Richard

Did you listen to it all, Richard, in case they played anything by Hayley? Martin D
