The first fifteen posts have been moved from the Classical Reflection thread by Richard. I could have guessed they'd leave Lucy till last but she was first to be picked for the live shows by Will. I don't think she'll be selling popcorn in a West End theatre much longer. Ricky said as much:"I can't believe she's not making a living from it (singing). She will be soon." However well she sang it, I have to say it was a pretty hacked up version of "One Fine Day" with plenty of edits but then she only had 90 seconds and got a standing ovation. (By the way, she's not an Opera singer ! Neither is Lucy Kay. To state the blindingly obvious to be an opera singer you have to sing an opera, not 90 seconds from one aria, any more than me running for a bus makes me an Olympic athlete !!). Will said it was the first time "The Voice" had an "operatic singer" but I can't help feeling it's too much of a coincidence that a year on from Lucy Kay's success on BGT, the BBC now "discovers" their own Lucy. Something about her story doesn't quite ring true. Surely the theatre would have realised her talent and not kept employing her as an usherette ? Talking of Irish singers, Celtic Women are singing "Danny Boy" on Songs of Praise today at 5pm so I'd better dash !

Not bad. I liked this better than Memory. I didn't know the difference about the arrangement, so that didn't bother me. It just wasn't Hayley, or Sarah Brightman, that's all. But it would be nice to see a classical singer do well on a Voice show.

From the Classical Reflection thread:Latest tweet from the twins: Someone else has been getting into the spirit too ! That's a lovely Irish smile from both of them ! I'll hazard a guess that's her dad !

At this point in the proceedings, as the singers for the live shows have been decided, it is only right and proper that I declare a financial interest. She won't win of course. She'll come second, because they always do. (Connie Talbot, Jackie Evancho, Susan Boyle, Lucy Kay.)

(Connie Talbot, Jackie Evancho, Susan Boyle, Lucy Kay.) hi Jeff, Thanks for your display of faith in Lucy O'Byrne, that's what I call commitment She is quite amazing, how she was knocked out in the Irish version of The Voice is a mystery to me, maybe Kian had sunstroke or tinnitus that day. Thanks for the Saint Patrick's day wishes.

Boyd, was his name, I think. But I think Jackie and Susan are doing better in their careers than those 2, as far as I'm aware.

Actually Comet, Lucy favourited my tweet ! You and me have been listening to singers for a long time, right ? So we know a good 'un when we hear her. I think your countrywoman deserves great credit not only for her singing but the tasteful and modest way she dresses and the way she presents herself on stage in a manner which means her male supporters can enjoy her songs without any other distractions. I'd expect nothing less of a good Catholic girl !

Yes, guys sometimes win but a woman crossover singer never has as far as I know ! Mary-Jess won the show in China. Oh, and Forte is a group of guys, and they didn't win AGT. The person who won that year was a pretty good act, but still, I wish Forte could have placed higher than 4th. But you're right, men in general are more likely to win these shows. But, as I said, Jackie & Susan are, as far as I can tell, doing better than the guys I mentioned above. I haven't heard a single thing from Neal since his win, not that I've tried to look him up.

I saw him when he toured New Zealand last year to a full house and he is a lot better singer now than when he was on BGT. Like a lot of musicians now he needed to crowd fund his latest CD.

Yes Libby it could be that more women vote on these shows than men. I think Joe is a likely winner of "The Voice" judging by all the screaming women who gave him a standing ovation !

Yes, that's always true on American Idol. Out of 13 winners, only 5 have been women! And from season 2008-2012, every winner was a guy... They became known as WGWG's... White Guy With Guitar. A girl finally won in 2013, but it was back to a guy in 2014. I'm not watching this season, so I have no idea who could/should win this time, but the media will announce it widely enough that I'll still find out.

Yes, Libby, I gave up with X Factor years ago, not just because Sue preferred Strictly, I did too. But The Voice I watch, because the standard is higher than on Cowell's shows and there are a few artists I know and like that have been involved. Although I actually think the rules of The Voice are flawed, all the entrants don't have equal chances. It depends on things like the running order. And since at the end of the blind auditions, the last act has to have a chance, the last act will inevitably go through, even if they are rubbish. I'm sure that is not lost on the organisers, so in a way, The Voice is fixed too.

I've come to believe they all are fixed, to some extent. Not completely, but somewhat.
