In Ireland, since records began. Lowest air temperature: -19.1°C at Markree Castle, Co. Sligo on 16th January 1881 Highest air temperature: 33.3°C at Kilkenny Castle on 26th June 1887. In general our temperatures average 8 to 14 degrees Celsius. I detest cold weather, materials get brittle, tools and materials just drain the heat out of me, Brrrrrrrrrrrrrr,..... hibernation time for me, in the back of the cave with the bearskin Meanwhile in Seattle, it's been very mild. Almost 60 F today! The wind was blowing some, so it wasn't what I'd call balmy, but at least the wind wasn't frigidly cold. I even saw some flowering plum trees just starting to bloom - on February 8th!! Unheard of! Sorry, Comet. I can't say that I'm that thrilled, though. I don't like it when the weather confuses the spring plants, because I'm always worried we'll get a freeze and ruin the plants trying to come up/bloom too early. I like seasons to be proper. If it's winter, it should be cold, and I can accept that. Spring warmth too early? Not so much. I'm just weird that way. LOL

The weather hasn't been too bad in London so far this month. The temperature has been up to about 7°C during the day and not dropping below -2°C overnight. That's about normal for February, so the Daily Express got it wrong as usual by predicting a big freeze to last all month! Richard

January was a very average month here in Leicester, despite the dire predictions of some tabloid newspapers. Mean temperature a tenth of a degree below average for January (4.51C), and rainfall at 100.03% of average (57.9mm)!
That doesn't tell the full story of course, since we had a mild start to the month, and a cooler mid and late month as evidenced by my observations for these periods.
Mean Temp anomolies Early Jan (Days 1-10) +1.84C Mid Jan (Days 11-20) -1.37C Late Jan (Days 21-31) -0.84C

Happy April! Although Spring has arrived, it is still winter where I live! Check out this photo taken about five minutes ago! I would like to share these photos of my backyard; these three photos were taken about two weeks ago! That is twenty-five inches of snow in my garden! Note the yardstick at the left. A snow tunnel! My ski course from two weeks ago ... and ... ...not much has melted from last weekend.

Hi Joe, That's shocking for the last day of March, you have much more interesting weather over there than here, I must say! For example, the heaviest snowfall here on the English south coast in the last two years was about one centimetre of snow in early January, which fell at 3 am and was gone before noon! I won't embarrass myself by posting the photo I took of it! Cheers, Dave

This is getting to be a yearly thing, now, isn't it? The past few years, I've been reminded in the winter why rainy Seattle is the place to be. It has its problems at times, but at least you don't have to shovel out of it, and having a difficult time getting to work all the time. Some probably think CA is the place to be, but I'm not the type who wants summer all year round. Just not a bunch of blizzards. And we do get fairly hot summers most of the time.

Hi Joe.
fascinating pictures Joe, love the wind vane, is it just decorative or does it generate electricity for garden lights ?
Snow here in Ireland seldom lasts for more than a few days, it does cause chaos when we get it, everyone seems to feel the need to go out in it and make some emergency about getting groceries or visiting someone. Not worth the broken wrists, arms, ankles, minor car crashes.. It will melt sooner or later..

Hello Paul!
My wind vane is just a decoration. And a good support structure for runner beans in the summer!
Some of the ice has finally melted to reveal a hyacinth shoot...finally had a 60`F https://i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gifay!
I can't wait for the snow to melt in my native woodland garden as I'm sure my trilliums and hepatica are wanting to sprout!
However, more snow is forecast for Easter morning, so the winter coat and snow shovel will remain handy.

The year of the snow, and soon-to-follow ice storm, was a recipe for disaster in some Seattle area neighborhoods. Some residential streets didn't get snow clearing service for days. That was 2012. There was lots of damage to trees and plants, so the arborists/landscapers were busy.

Yes, interesting photos Joe! You should get solar powered nightlights for your garden. They run on batteries that recharge in daylight during the day. Richard

Yesterday was about 75 F, but then today, it was back to about 20 degrees cooler again! Those of us at my workplace really got to experience the chill; we had to evacuate the building due to a gas line breakage, and weren't allowed back in for about 2 hours! We were all thinking, too bad it hadn't happened the day before when the weather was nice!

After a very cold March and chilly April, Spring has finally arrived here! This week, all of the leaves are on the trees, and the daffodils and trilliums are in bloom. Although climatologically there is still a chance of frost, I may be bold and plant my peppers, pumpkins and tomatoes next week!
Folks in the US states of South Carolina and North Carolina are dealing with a tropical storm, very rare for May!

Hi all, Some unusual weather in my corner of Pennsylvania last Sunday!  https://i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gifuring the early morning hours, we had our first frost. The temperature at sunrise was 30'F and a few of my blanketed peppers managed to survive. As the day progressed, so did the chill. By 5 pm we had our first measurable snow of the season with 0.2 inches. A few hours later the temperature dropped to 23'F and the first hard freeze. Fingers crossed for a mild winter as told in the long-range forecast!
