Yes, there is one very well documented case where mankind's activity, politicians even, have changed the climate in the UK, and that is the huge increase in sunshine totals in the last half century or so. This is down to the Clean Air Act that was passed in 1956, resulting in the near elimination of smoke being released into the atmosphere by industry and domestic coal fires. The 1956 act was a response to the "killer smogs" in London during the 1950s. Where I grew up was in the middle of the largest brick making area in Britain. A travel writer once wrote that "there is nowhere in the world where you can stand in one place and see so many chimneys". Nearly all of them are gone now. Back in those days, I remember that if you had been away on holiday for a few days, when you came home you could smell the smoke. At least for the first few minutes, but most of the time you didn't smell it, I guess your brain just filtered it out.

It's snowing here today!!! Hope I can get to work... or, better yet, get home!! It's supposed to clear up later, but it's still going to be freezing cold! Meanwhile in the midwest, it doesn't appear to be snowing, though they probably still have some on the ground.

Well, we didn't get all that much, and luckily, the roads cleared up pretty fast, and weren't too slippery. From now until the next several days, it's just supposed to be clear and very cold. At 6:03pm, it's about 27 F here. A huge drop from last night. It was 40 for a while, then slipped down to the high 30s. In the early morning, for a while, instead of warming up, it dropped, and now it's dropping more! Joe, I think my weather, which was in the mid-50s most of the day yesterday, headed your way!

Supposed to be warm up gradually throughout the week, but not more than the mid-40s for the high.

Going the other way here. 8.8C at midnight, 6.6C at 9am, now 6.3C. Dull and murky, no sun or rain, just grey and I'm getting about 50watts from my solar panels!

It hasn't even been down to 32 yet, and in the whole of last Winter it never fell below 30 degrees (-1 deg C). No snow either, but I just google 'Buffalo' to remind myself what it looks like! Cheers, Dave

Hi all! How's the weather? "In the bleak mid-winter..." is certainly a reality here in northern Pennsylvania! This week alone, a foot of snow has fallen, with another ice and four-inch snow event coming tonight. Over sixteen inches of snow is on the ground. A few days ago the temperature fell to -8 degrees F (-22'C) at my house, then on the way to work, the car's outdoor thermometer read -16'F or -27'C . www.weather.gov/bgm/

In Ireland, since records began.
Lowest air temperature: -19.1°C at Markree Castle, Co. Sligo on 16th January 1881
Highest air temperature: 33.3°C at Kilkenny Castle on 26th June 1887.
In general our temperatures average 8 to 14 degrees Celsius.
I detest cold weather, materials get brittle, tools and materials just drain the heat out of me, Brrrrrrrrrrrrrr,..... hibernation time for me, in the back of the cave with the bearskin
