I find Lucy's vibrato much too wide for my taste. Her voice itself is quite clear and pretty, but the vibrato puts me off. I wish her luck.

Q. What is the difference between Lucy and Lettice ? A. Lucy can hold her drink and here she is holding it ! You wouldn't think she's a student would you ?! I'm sure Comet will enjoy that photo. A pretty girl with a glass of Guinness. Every Irishman's dream, surely ?! No surprise to learn she's not single or as she says: "A Scotsman has my heart." What a lovely way of putting it. Well she has mine. Most girls would have said "I've got a boyfriend." But Lucy is not like most girls. Beautiful inside and out. On Saturday we are promised an operatic aria with a big ending. (Mayerbeer ?!) I have to say I think that's a risk. I would prefer a Crossover song like in her semi as she has more chance of getting votes with it. Indeed the whole Crossover genre grew up precisely because most people don't engage with opera (too long, too expensive and in a foreign language). Still, Paul Potts won in 2007 with "Nessun Dorma" (and she's way better than him) so who knows ? Not me that's for sure.

I just realized that tonight is the final of BGT so i will hope to play catch up with some of its better acts. Yes Joe that should take you about 10 minutes ! But just in case you have the misfortune to watch all of them, here's my UNOFFICIAL GUIDE TO THE FINAL.(Tonight 7pm ITV1) Lucy Kay. IMHO far and away the best singer ever to grace BGT. Absolute class act and head and shoulders above anyone else. (No Richard, I don't mean she stands 6 foot tall in her stocking feet!) Far too good for drivel like this show. If you watch her interviews she ticks all the boxes: voice, looks, personality, intelligence in fact an altogether lovely girl who anyone would be proud to have as a daughter. The 24 year old Royal Conservatoire student was once a backing singer for Susan Boyle no less and says she senses a softening in Simon Cowell since fatherhood (can't say I've noticed) and her avowed aim tonight was to make him cry with an operatic aria. That was until yesterday when Cowell changed her song 48 hours before the final ! Opera is out and a more popular song is in. Strangely enough straight after that a mystery admirer placed a large bet on her, a person described by Lucy as "a lovely fool!" Not SC then. Lucy dear, if you really want to make him cry a well placed stiletto would do admirably or you could hit him where it really hurts and steal his wallet. Best of all, get yourself signed to a record label he doesn't own ! Lettice (I'm far too hungover to be nervous ) Rowbotham. Awfully good violinist, in fact the best I've seen drunk. (I mean her not me !) Obviously sees the £250,000 prize as an opportunity to replenish her wine cellar. Frightfully posh too. Only buys her Pimm's from Waitrose and wouldn't be seen dead in Lidl. When able to stand she enjoys nothing more than jigging about and kicking her long legs while having a jolly good fiddle. She'll be wearing a tasteful American outfit (one yank and it's orf darling). I was hoping she might play something from "Carmina Burana" but it seems the Orff is orf as well! Instead Ms Rowbotham will treat us to her favourite repertoire: Brahms and Liszt. Claims to have given up drink for the final. Really ? Let's see how she celebrates if she wins. If she resists the temptation to imbibe she could do really well. My issue with her is she's a professional musician (just jetted in from a week doing shows at an exclusive Alpine resort) and BGT is supposed to be for amateurs but is anyone surprised if Mr C bends the rules ? She's a character and the audience like her so she is sure to enjoy a warm hand upon her entrance. Yanis Marshall & Co. French drag act. Time to put the kettle on. Bars & Melody. Schoolboy rappers and Mr Cowell's pick to win until he changed Lucy's song. Now he says she's his favourite. One of the lads even told the press he thought Lucy would win and I can't believe Mr C wasn't behind that as well ! James Smith. Young Blues singer. Darcy Oake. Canadian illusionist who takes his shirt off to get more votes. Yes, that'll help. Collabro. Boyband. Actually I thought their version of "Bring him home" was quite good. Should you hear a thud during their performance fear not, it's just swooning girls collapsing on the floor. A large female vote is expected. So is a large phone bill at the end of it. Hopefully they'll come 3rd behind Lucy and Lettice but we all know that won't happen. The Addict Initiative. Like Lucy these streetdancers are from Leicester. Unlike Lucy it's loud music, flashing lights and screaming girls in the audience so what's not to love ? Well everything actually. Jack Pack. Another boyband only these specialise in "Swing." Paddy and Nico. Dancing Duo. He's 40. She's 80 and already had an injury so I hope the medics are on standby. Jon Clegg. Impressionist. Quite good but people called Clegg are not popular in this country right now. Only in the final as a "Wildcard" since he didn't get enough votes to qualify. See what I mean ? Of course like every year there will be irritating adverts after each act. This is because Simon Cowell drinks copious amounts of water to replace his venom and he needs to keep dashing to the bathroom for a comfort break. Rumour has it once there he relieves himself over Piers Morgan but I can't confirm that obviously. Enjoy, whatever the result. COME ON LUCY !!

Well, the female vote prevailed I see. But after all, women are the only ones who watch anything except football on TV aren't they?

Yes Richard. There's no doubt in my mind which of the finalists will have the longest career. So the full result was: 1. Collabro 9/4 2. Lucy Kay 7/1 3. B.A.M. 5/4FAV Could I just clear something up here guys. I am most definitely not the person who put a grand on Lucy to win. I mean, really ! >:(The very thought that I would in any way seek to make personal gain from this young lady's prodigious talent. Ahem.....well....um....actually I had a £1 each way ! I won £2.40 and on a hot day didn't want to walk to the bookies so paid £1.60 bus fare to collect it ! Still, my change will pay for another half-hour in the internet cafe ! Had she won it would have been £10.40 and that would have paid for her debut album which SURELY is on the way. My thinking was if I'm going to suffer Mr Cowell for an evening I want some recompense ! So she performed the song she wanted to and not the one Cowell tried to make her change to in which case well done to her for standing up to him. A singer who sings what they want to is clearly a novel concept for Mr Cowell. She's used to confronting bullies. (I was bullied at school too which is why I empathised with her so much. Why anyone would want to bully such a gorgeous girl as Lucy is beyond me. Bullies should be dragged into the gutter and flogged but of course it's against their human rights. ) It was a brave choice to sing a tenor aria (although KJ has performed it) but understandable as Potts won with it. Interesting too that she finished 2nd like the star she backed, Susan Boyle and coming 2nd didn't do Susan's career any harm at all. But as I said she's a class act. When was the last time you saw a jockey get off a horse at the end of a race and apologise for losing your money ?! It was sheer class to say sorry to her fan who bet £1000 although she was laughing as she said it ! I think we'll be seeing a lot more of this young lady. I certainly hope so.

Hello Jeff! I've embedded that video of Lucy for you (saved Richard a job) Thanks very much for your unofficial guide to the final! Glad you had a net gain of 80p on your bet...much better than the $15 I lost on the Belmont Stakes horse race. Keep in mind the runners-up nearly always outshine the winners!

Keep in mind the runners-up nearly always outshine the winners! Personally I hope that isn't the case this time! I loved their performances and I think they have great voices, and I wish them a long career. I didn't care much for the woman tbh but that's just my opinion I just hope Simon Cowell doesn't choose to market them as the "Next One Direction" - I think that would be a very bad move! Sing

Actually I thought Lucy was wonderful, much better rendition of that song than KJ, even though I did think there was rather too much reverb used on her voice. I think she will go places, and Decca have a rival signed to another label. Time to revive and invest in the one singer who can wipe the floor with all of them. I'm sure you know who I mean.

Martin D I thought she did a nice job on Nessun Dorma, too. That deep opera tone isn't my favorite thing to listen to, but her voice is more clear and less warbly than some I've heard... and again, none of that yawning like certain other singers we know do and I can't stand. At the very least, I can handle her voice. However, though her last high note sounded very good, I thought the notes in the build-up were not that impressive compared to Sarah Brightman, whom I've been listening to a lot lately. Also, I thought it ended too fast. She hit that last big note, and then boom, it was done. Obviously they have time constraints, but still. It had an affect on how impressive the performance was. I'm sure her album recording will be much better, as far as that goes. However, Martin, I'm not sure I would say what you said about Hayley. In Nessun Dorma, or most opera, no, I don't think she could wipe the floor with Lucy. But I don't think she should ever try, anyway. I think she's at the point where she should move past the operatic arias, for the most part. Nessun Dorma is too overdone anyway.
