Jillian, what was 3 months ago, besides Christmas time? I must say for once your last post has me a bit confused. Aside from Hushabye, her song choices are excellent. And then, for that, that was what she chose for what she was given to do, so it isn't entirely her fault she had to choose those songs at all.
And yes, that's the white blouse she's wearing with the pink pants in the "photo of the photo/video shoot".
I'm praying that if anything is an indication of what she'll do next, it's the style of music she sang at the Union Chapel concert. I loved her choices there, singing some songs she hasn't done in ages, like What You Never Know, and then of course the long-awaited Talk to Me. And the new song, Close to You. I think THAT song could be the biggest indication, since that's her newest song choice to date (Japanese songs don't count).

One thing I don't like about embedding videos is that the link is lost to me to copy and paste into the official forum.

It always makes me really sad when I think that Hayley got no say in that. I'm sure that's not what she set out to do with her career, but I suppose these things happen. It's also really disappointing from a fan perspective too. If Hayley is going to be moving away from classical, towards pop then a different set of standards apply. In the pop sector, there's an expectation of original material. Usually cover songs are included as fun fillers during concerts - not the basis of a body of work. But I suppose the mysterious new material may sound something like Close to You? I suppose it might be telling that the song selection at Union Chapel concentrated on Hayley's non classical material. Will be interesting to see what she does in Dublin. The real question is whether Decca will allow Hayley to do something that won't qualify for the UK classical charts.

I guess she is still performing classical music, since she will be at Classic FM Live next month.

One thing I don't like about embedding videos is that the link is lost to me to copy and paste into the official forum. Hello Libby! It only takes two extra clicks. Click on "YouTube" at the bottom of the embedded video and the video will open in a new window. Copy the URL in the address bar, close the new window, then paste the URL into the official forum. I suppose it might be telling that the song selection at Union Chapel concentrated on Hayley's non classical material. Will be interesting to see what she does in Dublin. The real question is whether Decca will allow Hayley to do something that won't qualify for the UK classical charts. I have to say that I think the Union Chapel set list was the best in a long time, and I think many of you would agree with me. I don't remember every song she sang (since I wasn't there, of course), but I was just looking through the videos posted by Martin, Tim, etc., and nearly all the songs were more on the pop side than classical. These included Talk to Me, What You Never Know, Close to You, I Know You By Heart, Songbird, I Believe, My Heart Belongs to You, You Raise Me Up, BOTW, Wuthering Heights, Mummer's Dance, Summerfly. Oh, and Vivo Per Lei. Vivo Per Lei is the type of song she could add to her albums and possibly still manage to please Decca. Josh Groban is no longer what I would really call classical. However, he still sings all kinds of Italian, Spanish, French, etc. songs that seem to make people think he's classical. But in reality, they're just songs in another language. I sometimes get confused about how a song in Italian is automatically labelled classical, just because it's in in Italian. Italian doesn't automatically mean an operatic aria. So anyway, what I'm trying to say is that if Hayley were to include songs like Vivo Per Lei here and there, she might still be able to at least be thought of as classical crossover. I've learned that you can still be labeled crossover without actually singing any arias. Anyway, she hasn't recorded an aria since Treasure, am I right? And that wasn't even the original version (Un Bel Di). I think I'd miss it if she didn't sing at least a few semi-classical songs. As displayed in the La Califfa video I rediscovered, her voice is still amazing in that sort of tone. It was her pure soprano voice that drew me to her in the first place, and I would be a bit sad to lose that completely. And yet, I'm dying for song selections more like the Union chapel setlist. The solution would be to have some of both types of songs.

Hi Libby,
These are the eligibility rules for the classical charts.
Do traditional songs count as 'classical'? Just trying figure out what the balance of tracks was on Treasure...

But isn't there a difference between classical and classical crossover? I don't know, I feel like there is a slight difference.

Yes, it is strange. Film scores and musical theatre seem to sometimes be counted as "classical". Did "West Side Story" appear in the classical charts? To be honest I can't remember.

Well, my email says it will take on average 4-12 days, but may take up to 8 weeks. I suppose it depends on where you live, and I have a good record for quick deliveries from CDJapan. It would be nice to get it before I set off for Dublin on Thursday, then I can take it with me and hopefully Hayley will sign it. Of course HM Customs and Excise might put a spoke in the wheel...
