Hi all, I saw this article today in the Daily Mail which says Katherine Jenkins has parted ways with Warner Music. Apparently Warner Music sustained losses of 2 million pounds and that was the reason behind the split. www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-2333070/Katherine-Jenkins-ditched-record-company-spending-1-500-day-hair-makeup.htmlThe Daily Mail carries on with some probably made up drivel about wardrobe expenditure, but that's to be ignored. They say that Katherine spending £1,500 a day on hair, makeup and clothes was behind the split, but that's clearly rubbish. There's no way she could spend that much on a sustained basis. For example, for one event, Hayley could easily spend that much. A full length Amanda Wakeley dress costs about 900 to 1,000 pounds and then add shoes, accessories and professional hair and makeup. But that certainly doesn't happen every day. The article does say that Katherine blamed Warner Music for not marketing and promoting her enough. I always got the impression that there was a lot of over-spending on Katherine and it seems that it hasn't paid off for Warner Music. I wonder what Katherine will do now? Clearly she's such a big presence in classical crossover that she'll be signing with another label. I wonder who? It seems things are tough in the industry now. A reason why I could never blame Hayley for doing what Decca asked and recording Hushabye. Cheers, Jillian

It's a shame. I am fairly neutral towards KJ, but I would never want anything bad to happen to her. And I find the whole thing about her overspending extremely hard to believe. It would be essentially impossible for a single person to spend that much on clothes, etc. every day. Or just spend that much in a day PERIOD. -Taylor

Yes, its true, Katherine tweeted a message earlier today (well, it was 3am UK time, but the last I heard she was in Tokyo). She has a little swipe at the press coverage too. /photo/1/photo/1Martin D

Well, it's been a long day of rehearsals here in Japan. Time to take my £1500 worth of make up & my diva demands to bed #Haters #Lies #Nite ha ha ha ha ha Oh dear. I actually laughed out loud about that. Katherine has had a bad run, cause I remember there were plenty of stories like this when she split from Universal in 2008. I mean, as I said above, Katherine probably has easily spent more than £1500 kitting herself out for big appearances on occasion. Hayley would have done the same too, as those designer evening gowns do not come cheap! But anyway. I think the reason I posted this article was that the fact that Katherine is splitting with Warner came as quite a shock. From what I can gather, Katherine has a huge presence in the UK and there's plenty of KJ Cds in Australian shops - way more than Hayley's - and yet Katherine is splitting from Warner? Goes to show how cut throat everything is. Although I do read that Katherine will be signing with a new label.

I bet the total cost of all those beautiful dresses Hayley wore in her Hushabye trailer cum fashion shoot is more than £1500. And she did do it all in one day. Don't suppose she owns those dresses though. I'll also bet Katherine's new label isn't Decca, after their attempts to sabotage every Warner release by re-releasing compilations of her old stuff! Hi Martind,
Yes, the dresses for the Hushabye shoot would have been borrowed - though I think that Hayley bought one or two of the Painted Black vintage dresses for herself.
I guess the truth of the matter was (before the Daily Mail blew it out of proportion) was the expenditure on promoting and marketing Katherine was not profitable enough compared to CD sales.
Yes, I doubt it will be Decca. I'll be interested to see what Katherine does next. Probably a fair amount of 'celebrity' things like TV too, I'd imagine.
Cheers, Jillian

Hi guys,
I was a bit shocked when I read this too, of course I don't believe it has anything to do with money spent on clothes, makeup etc, although those dresses must be expensive and professional hair and makeup too. When I think about it her albums haven't been selling very well in the US as I was watching the billboard charts because I was interested in how well she would do over there and so I suspect that Jillian you are right that they spent too much money and did not sell enough CDs. I'm interested to see what happens next and agree it won't have anything to do with Decca.

There is a rumour in the Daily Mail (I think anything in the DM can't be given any higher veracity than a rumour) that she is going to be singing on cruise ships, which they are claiming is a case of "how are the mighty fallen"
The poor girl does not deserve the kicking she is getting from the media (especially the DM) over this. It didn't work out with Warner. She is still a fine singer.

However, don't take it as demeaning since the likes of Russell Watson also perform on cruise ships (it is quite lucrative). Martin

I actually think performing on cruise ships would be a great idea. Lucrative and you have a captive audience too!

Isn't that how Caruso got started? He certainly made a name for himself! Exit, stage left... Richard

I don't think this is even a story, to be honest. She wasn't "dropped", her contract was up and she's going to another label, just like she did with Decca. The DM is just picking on her. After years of praising her, they must have only just noticed that their audience hate her (have you seen the comments left on her articles?) The DM audience want to see her fail, so that's what they write, despite none of it being true.
She'll go to Sony (that's the only other major she hasn't signed with). But her deal with Warner was always ridiculous. Yes, she was successful in the UK, but she's no Andrea Bocelli. Katherine is no where near the best selling in the genre. Before she even signed with Warner, Hayley had sold more than her. So has Aled Jones, Russell Watson, Vanessa Mae, Sissel and Charlotte Church and that's without mentioning the big names - Groban, Divo, Brightman, Bocelli. You don't see Sarah Brightman and Bocelli signing deals like that - they are classical artists, not pop ones - that kind of money would never be necessary to promote them.
Sony are good at what they do. They will be sensible and I think they will do well for Kath's career. Of course, I would prefer her to go indie... but I'd prefer that of everyone. XD XD

I have to agree with Nic, which doesn't happen very often. i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gif It's pretty obvious that the DM is anti-Katherine, apparently certain sections of the UK press tend to either love or hate this or that artist, and they use their power either for or against whoever they choose. This all boils down to the fact that Katherine's last album sold ok, but no better than ok, so they didn't renew the deal which was due to expire anyway. The rest of this nonsense about Katherine being a diva is just that. Apart from her ill-chosen brush with drug use while a student she's generally been a decent performer and person, and certainly there's nothing to be gained by attacking her except column inches.
