Hi all! I was wondering if Hayley ever sang "Itsumo Nando Demo (Many Times Always)" live, as it is one of my favorites and the song through which I discovered Hayley in the fist place. I've not been able to find any videos or records of her performing it.
It also occured to me that many other people may wish to know more about what Hayley has/has not performed live, so I've created this thread for that purpose.

Might be good to check out some of the old threads on her tours in Japan. If I had to guess, I'd say she hasn't. She has done I Am a Thousand Winds, Nada Sousou, the Lullabies under the Silk Tree one,... what else? But I'm pretty sure that one hasn't been done live.

It's a shame. It's such a blissful lighthearted song. I did search the forum for the song title actually and got no results. I've also wondered if she ever sang "Mary Did You Know" with the simple guitar arrangement like in the studio version. I really like that version.

Yes, I'm sure that ones hasn't, or if it has, it was a concert we didn't get a full report of. But somehow I doubt it. Hayley has also performed "Hana" from HSJS live on Japanese TV of course. www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ol0_EuFVU94A favourite Hayley song (and performance) of mine. She has certainly performed "Mary did you Know" live. I remember it from November 2004 in Northampton (where she was supported by Mario Frangoulis), but can't remember what the backing was like. But she had a small band in those days, and the tour was promoting the special Edition of Pure, so could well have been guitar based. Martin D

I too love that song - particulary the very oriental sounding pentatonic runs in the verse (it is Japanese, after all!). And I have seen her sing MDYK live before in videos, but always with a full orchestra. I really love the edge that the acoustic guitar arrangement adds -Rory

I know that Hayley never performed "Dark Waltz" live... Such a shame. Oh well. Also: May I suggest that we change the thread title to something a bit more grammatically correct, like "Has Hayley Sung It Live"? -Taylor i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gif

Also I read in another thread somewhere that Hayley has performed Dark Waltz but that it was never recorded unfortunately. -Rory

Sung is, I feel, better suited in the future tense, "she would have sung". Sang, as used in Rory's context, would be my choice. Just one of those tricky verbs out there

Yea I mean I'm usually somewhat of a stickler for grammar, but that's a tough situation. Either way, it's ultimately irrelevant at this point - we're here to discuss Hayley, right? -Rory

I think technically is is the difference between the perfect and imperfect tense. So it should be either "she sang", or "she has sung". That's my understanding so my vote is for "sung" in this case.
Actually, there are many songs Hayley has recorded but never to my knowledge performed live. I think "Benedictus" has been mentioned as one that people would like to hear. For me, I'de vote for "Listen to the Wind". After all, James Horner did write that song with Hayley in mind.
We have been discussing songs that Hayley has recorded and sung live, but there are very many many songs that Hayley has sung live but never recorded. We could all make lists of sure of the ones we would like her to record. For me, she missed the opportunity to record "O Holy Night" when she did "Winter Magic". Having seen her do it live a few limes, I consider she sings it better than anyone else I have ever heard, live her performances are absolutely stunning.

When I saw her at Carnegie she also sang a wonderful blend of "Te Harinui" and "White Christmas," which to my knowledge neither of which did she record. -Rory

Hi Rory,
I saw her sing "Te Haranui/Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" live once in the wonderful Birmingham Symphony Hall. That was a very beautiful performance, and yes, I would love her to record it.
And that I remember had a simple piano backing, and I think you make a good point that she only needs a simple backing, either piano or guitar. Some of her most enjoyable songs are like that.

Martin D Indeed. Many of my favorite Hayley songs are like that, such as: Sonny, Mary Did You Know? Both Sides Now (which isn't quite as simple as the others, but I still love what the guitar does , and River -Rory

Thanks for that, Martin! I enjoyed it very much. Simple arrangements let Hayley's natural tone shine through. This is also one of few times I've heard Hayley sing with 0 effects on her voice whatsoever. Usually even a live performance would have reverb or a touch of delay, but here it seems as though it's just a room mic capturing the rawness and purity of the performance.
