Glad you liked it Rory! In my experience sound systems aren't always kind to Hayley. Hayley's performance of ALW's Pie Jesu on the Capitol Lawn for Veterans Day 2011 is a case in point. I thought it sounded harsh, and Dave (HWI Dave) found some horrible ringing at 3000Hz. So he had a go at removing it, and the result sounds much better. I know that Hayley's voice is not naturally like that, I have had the privilege of hearing her perform without amplification. I also feel that her early CDs didn't do her voice justice. The later ones got better and sound more natural though. The conclusion is any processing that is done on her voice makes her sound worse, but since it is expected these days, reverb certainly, she has even been autotuned I gather, although with Hayley's sense of pitch that is totally unnecessary. But it seems recording engineers do it as a matter of course these days, and if it is remotely poppy they use dynamic compression also. The less that gets in the way between Hayley's voice and the listeners ear the better in my opinion. Arnaud though knows how to make his fiance sound good, I think that love is a much better motivation than just trying to do your job well.

And that I remember had a simple piano backing, and I think you make a good point that she only needs a simple backing, either piano or guitar. Some of her most enjoyable songs are like that. So true! I actually just discovered "I Know You By Heart" the other day... Probably my 2nd favorite song of Hayley's now (right after "Sides Now")!! www.youtube.com/watch?v=5OYxmJmBQc8-Taylor i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gif

Many of those effects/enhancements are only so commonplace these days because of the lacking talent of so many recording artists. If everyone had a voice like Hayley I bet they would be used more sparingly. For a studio recording, I think reverb can be useful, because if done right it can recreate the sound of a live performance at a venue with good acoustics, but live it can get in the way of the natural reverb created by the real venue. Delay can add sort of a lucid quality when paired with reverb, but it should never be something the listener consciously notices IMO. -Rory

Has Hayley ever sung "Summer Rain" live? I really love that song especially since it's one of Hayley's own compositions. As with the others I was unable to find any videos.

Hi Rory,
I don't know of any live performance of Summer Rain. Never heard of her doing it. Pity.

Hi Rory, I don't know of any live performance of Summer Rain. Never heard of her doing it. Pity. Martin D I think she might have done Summer Rain during her 2008 tour of NZ. I know she did Let Me Lie there, for sure, though. That might be what I'm thinking of. And Taylor, I'm pretty sure I've seen that she's done Dark Waltz once before. She had a gig in a pub/bar called Ulysses in NY back in 2007, sort of in between her CW tour. I remember seeing a photo of a set list, and I think Dark Waltz was on it. There used to be a video of her singing Mummer's Dance there.

Hello Libby, I've just had a look at that and there was an error in the archived web page, which I have now fixed. So the Mummer's Dance video should play OK in Firefox and Internet Explorer - though you may have to accept the plugin to Microsoft Media Player as all the old HWI files are Windows Media video. The plugin downloads directly from the Microsoft website. You might have to accept an ActiveX control, too. Unfortunately I cannot get it (or the other Windows Media videos I tried) to work in Google Chrome at the moment and I haven't tried Safari or other browsers. Here it is again: archive.hayley-westenra-international.com/video-vault/2006_wmv-player/20070320ulysses_hayleymummersdance.htmlCheers, Dave

Oh yes, it was for that Boysenberry ad. But that wasn't live. I think they showed her drinking a boysenberry beverage of some sort. Just an FYI, the search engine on this forum is not really helpful at all. I've actually found old threads by searching google instead... and I've just found it! Here (check out the article posted at the bottom of the page): hwi.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=Media&thread=683&page=2Thanks Libby but the links are not taking me to the commercial you mentioned. They take me to the Japanese Bourbon website, but I can't find any sign of Hayley's ad. -Rory

I mistook the article for a quote from a previous post, as it was quite short. Nevertheless, the links within the article still don't seem to function as they should. Is there somewhere else where I might find the commercial mentioned? -Rory

I directed you to the article because that's all I could find about it. I didn't mean there were [watchable] videos; sorry if I didn't make that clear. I wish there were! I do remember seeing them myself though.

Hello Libby and Rory! I remember the Boysenberry ads, but I think the videos have been deleted now. Richard
