However I also listen to loads of other stuff thats not classical at all, I mostly like female artists such as Carrie Underwood, Beyonce, Adele, Lady Gaga, Christina Aguilera, Ella Fitzgerald (my mum is a big fan of hers). I am a big fan of folk/country type music so I like Lisa Hannigan, Damien Rice, The Civil Wars, Birdy, Dixie Chicks. I was hoping Hayley would do some folk type music for her next album as I think her voice would be great for this kind of music. Susie Hi Susie! I, too enjoy the folk side of Hayley. I've also recently discovered the Civil Wars like you mentioned, and created a thread for them here: hwi.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=Othermusic&action=display&thread=6522Feel free to discuss/share some of your favorites -Rory

I generally listen to pop, rock, country, folk, and metal. When I'm in the car I surf radio stations and listen to whatever is on -- classical, Christian, bluegrass, experimental, the list goes on.

Hi there Rory,
I am actually a brand new Hayley fan. I recently got her “Odyssey” cd and have not put it down. The moment I heard her voice on "Prayer" I was sold! I saw your thread here and couldn’t help but register and reply as I always find it interesting to see what other people’s musical tastes are.
My musical tastes definitely vary. I grew up listening to Hard Rock and Heavy Metal but my tastes expanded as I got older and I started listening to Classical which led me to the Classical Crossover genre. Some of my favorites outside of the Classical/Classical Crossover include Vienna Teng, The Police/Sting, Two Steps From Hell/Thomas Bergersen, Nightwish, Foo Fighters, Hans Zimmer, Dave Matthews, and Dream Theater.
Oh and yes, as a matter of fact, I do have Hayley and Metallica on the same Ipod ha, ha.

Hi and welcome to the forum, The Fifth! lol it's really awesome to see that Hayley's music can reach out to people of many different tastes. In ways that not too many people might realize, there is a 'heavy' side to some of her music, especially with the amount of emotion she pours into a line. I must say, the fast staccato part of Amalia Por Amor (off Paradiso, which you should definitely listen to if you haven't!) is comprable to perhaps a Dream Theater song in the way it makes me feel. Similarly, I'm sure you've realized that classical music can be extremely heavy as well. If you like hard rock/heavy metal with some classical influences, I'd recommend you check out Angra. They're a band from Brazil that blends so many different styles seamlessly that they've become my favorite band currently Ps. I've since taken Metallica off my iPod to make room for more Hayley . It will be missed though! -Rory

Thank you for the recommendation Rory. I checked out Angra last night and I liked what I heard so I'm looking forward to hearing more on YouTube. Looks like they have a lot of history! I also listened to your song recommendation for Hayley, Amalia Por Amor, and I was floored. This is exactly what I wanted to hear from her with the vocal being a more rapid pace versus what I hear on "Odyssey". I was going to wait another month before buying Paridiso but after hearing that (a few times actually), I immediately placed my order through Amazon i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gifThanks Rory!!

Excellent! I'm glad you liked both and I'm positive you'll be more than pleased with your copy of Paradiso. Also if your interested in purchasing some of Angra's music, I'd personally recommend Angels Cry and Temple of Shadows. Those two are my favorites, but honestly you can't go wrong with any of their albums (in fact, the same can be said for Hayley's!). Glad I could turn someone on to some great music!

Also, interestingly, Angra covers Kate Bush's "Wuthering Heights" which Hayley covers as well lol

Welcome to the forum, the fifth! Odyssey was the album that got me hooked on Hayley too! Amalia Por Amor is one of my all-time favorites by Hayley now. It seems to be a favorite of many of her fans, I've noticed. Hayley also listed it as one of her favorites from Paradiso, as well.. when I asked her myself on twitter!!

Hey The Fifth! Welcome to the forum. Odyssey actually got me hooked too ("Both Sides Now" specifically)!! Yes, I love Amalia, but I also love Metti Una Sera A Cena. It lets Hayley show her feisty side. Hope to see you around! -Taylor i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gif

Oh yea Metti Una Sera a Cena is one of my favs too - it has alot of flavor. Hayley even used the word 'feisty' to describe it in her interview about her favorite tracks on Paradiso, in which Amalia was mentioned as well. You've probably seen that clip though -Rory

lol that's what I meant, I figured you'd got it from that. I wish she went into more songs on that interview though, it's nice to hear the artists insight into many specific details of her performance -Rory

Thank you for the welcome! I've been away for awhile so just now spotted a couple posts to reply to. Since my last post, I have added the cd's "Paradiso", "Pure", and "Celtic Treasure" to my Hayley collection. Each one is great in their own way, however right now I probably listen to Odyssey and Paradiso the most. Another reason could be that I got too many of them at one time! ha ha. Amalia Por Amor is a great tune and gets repeated on my player quite a bit. However, I think my fave right now is Gabriel's Oboe. I think the combination of her voice and the instruments are top notch!! Just beautiful stuff and the instrumental melody at about the 2:15 mark gets me every time. Thanks again for the welcome Libby!

Fiesty is right for Hayley side in Metti Una Sera A Cena. I was very happy to see her pick it up on this cd instead of sticking with all slower tunes. I hope her next cd is a good mix of pace like Paradiso was. Unfortunately I have a hard time finding some good "live" versions of this song on YouTube. There are only two that I know of and the quality isn't good. Thank you again for the welcome Taylor!

Ah, have you ever seen the version of her performance on Good Morning NZ? Well, now that I think about it, probably not. The great people here at HWI taped it and uploaded it onto YouTube! Sadly, after a while it had to be taken down due to copyright reasons. However, I believe there is still a copy on the HWI website and one on Tudou HERE. Her best performance, in my opinion. :rollin -Taylor i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gif
