Paige, I know exactly what you mean when it comes to the "nervous vibrato" thing! I'm 1st chair Horn at our school, and when it comes time for the concert I also get that kind of uncontrolable vibrato. When it comes to advertising albums, I've not a clue. Commercials like that never air around here, so I wouldn't know what to look for. The advert on YouTube seemed fine to me though. -Taylor i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gif

I don't know if it was her writing the lyrics that made them want to advertise it. Well, I suppose so, since it was new lyrics to an Ennio Morricone composition. But you never saw them using Summer Rain or Let Me Lie to advertise Treasure. Just the classics like Danny Boy and Shenandoah.
If she ever manages to make an album of all original material, they will be forced to use something she wrote. However, I think I would like a few cover songs here and there, as long as they're not too over-done.

Ah yes, thanks Paige, "The Edge of Love" another sublime song and performance that could have been used for promotion I agree.
And thank heaven for Caravan Club WiFi. A decent speed link at last. But having been using Vodafone so-called mobile broadband, I am really starting to understand what Dave is getting at with his concern for dialup users.

True, we think she sings those songs better than anybody (and she does!), but in order for me to be a fan of a CC artist these days, they need to be different. They're not going to impress me with all the usual Ave Marias and O Mio Babbino Caros, unless their voices are extra special, like Hayley. For me, their voices have to be special anyway, but the more new/unique material the better. That's why when I looked up Mary Jess and Laura Wright at the same time, I bought Mary Jess' album, and not Laura's. Sure, Laura has a nice voice, and the songs sounded nice, but I appreciated Mary Jess' uniqueness a lot more. Not just different songs, but she has an extra special quality to her voice that Laura doesn't have, at least for me. And actually, they do have commercials for artists new albums once in a while. Yes, I even saw an ad for Odyssey played during the Kurt Browing Gotta Skate program that time she sang with Andrea Bocelli there. Also, when Josh Groban's newest album was coming out, I saw a commercial for that, too. I know I saw one for Celine Dion at least once. Sometimes these ads will be to advertise it at a certain store, like Target, in Josh's case. But other than that, it's true, we don't get a lot of CD ads. But we do every so often.

Not sure if this discussion should not be in the Paradiso thread or here. There were many Paradiso fans before Hayley recorded her album with Ennio Morricone. I mean fans of the movie Cinema ParadisoThe original (Cinema Release version) or Original Theatrical Cut in the 4 disc set is certainly not the best version and looses the plot quite a bit until you see Giuseppe Tornatore's Directors's Cut which I think is the best version of the film. I would imagine from Hayley's lyrics in the songs on her Paradiso album that she has watched the film several times at least. She has connected well with the characters and the situations in the film beautifully. To discuss the songs in isolation from the movie is a bit of a futile project. Best watched alone and in full, A real duvet and tissues job

Yes, I'm not sure, but I think she might have listed Cinema Paradiso as one of her favorite movies. I'm not sure if that would have been when they were discussing her album or not, or whether I'm just imagining a memory, but at the very least, I know she likes it. In one of her interviews, I believe on of her Australian radio interviews, she said, "Isn't it stunning?" So, we know she likes it. I haven't seen it. Does it have subtitles? I'm not fond of movies where I have to read the whole time. I'm needing new glasses now, too, and just had to zoom in on this website, because my eyes are especially bad at the moment (and some of the font on this site has always been rather small).

Hi -
Just received my monthly programming guide for August for the local PBS station, WGBH Boston. Nothing at all yet about the Frangoulis show to be broadcast. Jackie Evancho has gotten the big splash in this issue with a nice large picture of her, and a nice write-up about her second Great Performances special in August "showcasing great songs from the silver screen putting her unique stamp on audience favorites such as 'My Heart Will Go On' (Titanic) and many more." Certainly shan't be watching that.

Yeah, I'd far rather watch Hayley's performance of the song from Beijing, even if it's not perfect.

So, are they saying the DVD will be released in "December '12", or they're going to show it on PBS then? To me, it sounds like info for a DVD, but then, what do I know?

They usually come at the same time on PBS... Like I a can(very very vaguely) recall that you could order the New Journey DVD when it came on PBS, b/c it was a pledge drive. So, maybe the date is both! And just in time for Christmas!! -Taylor i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gif

To me, it sounds like info for a DVD, but then, what do I know? I'm only guessing, but it appears to me that Sante Fe Productions did the filming in Boston, and have set it up in a format to be used by different PBS stations for their pledge drives. In return for pledges of different amounts, there will be tokens of appreciation mailed out. For a fairly hefty pledge, you can get a DVD of the program as filmed in Boston. Chances are that the broadcast will have parts missing. At this point KVCR has signed up to go with the program in December 2012. It remains to be seen how many other PBS stations choose to use the program. That is my guess. BobS PS After all the pledgework is out of the way, the DVD will probably appear for sale in the PBS store.

Oh yeah, I know they always leave stuff out in the PBS broadcasts. No surprise, since they take up a lot of the time for the pledges. As long as I can see the whole thing on DVD, I'm happy!
