I'm really intrigued by that thumbnail. Behind Hayley it says "World Movie Premiere starring Hayley Westenra". Edit: I think I've got it! This year marks the 50th anniversary of the movie premiere of West Side Story, and Hayley and Rolando appear to be singing on a balcony. I'm sure all will be revealed when the show is broadcast next week. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/West_Side_Story_%28film%29Richard

I would guess that they sang "Tonight" from WSS. It is a duet which Hayley also recorded with Vittorio Grigolo back in 2008.

WOW! A FULL GOWN, and that too a Princess gown thing XD Hayley looks AMAZING! I think this is the first time she's wearing something like this XD....she looks absolutely gorgeous, and if the whole thing marks some 50th anniversary of West Side Story and that it was on a balcony, it's definitely Tonight XD....(sadly lol) But she's performing two songs tho! So can't wait to know what the other one is XD

Hello folks! There is a very large set of thumbnails of the Royal Variety Performance at Rex Features. Use the arrows at the top or bottom right to see all thirteen pages of them: www.rexfeatures.com/set/1513767Richard

Hi Richard and everyone, That's an interesting theory about the Balcony Scene from West Side Story, and you may well be right. However, it does not explain why the only mention of Hayley and Rolando in all the reports about last night's show says that they "sang a duet with one another". You'd think that even the greenest entertainment reporter in the land would recognize and know the name of "Tonight". I have gleaned from several reports that the show suffered severe technical problems a\t times and there were delays and repeats, so the show lasted for 4 hours 15 minutes (according to Stage Reviews). Also, none of last night's reports mentioned what songs the performers sung and the Daily Mail doesn't mention Barry Manilow at all, so my guess is that they were all written before the show finished, and probably before it even started. Photos seem to have then been added gradually as the night, and today, wore on. So the show for TV will be chopped in half, probably leaving out nobody significant, and it will be as if the problems never happened. And I do hope that someone somewhere tells us for certain before then what Hayley and Rolando sang. Tonight isn't one of my favourites but if it got Hayley into the RVP with one of today's greatest male opera singers, eight years after her first appearance that's fantastic! Cheers, Dave

Cheers, Dave What I find extraordinary is that any reporter would write that two artists sang with one another. Where would the other one normally be? On the moon? What otherwise is a duet but two singers singing together? As regards technical hitches, well, if it means more money for the charity under the new contract, fine and it gives the Royals a change of venue which they might find welcome but the Palladium with ITV and the BBC alternating year by year means they continually know what they are about. Chopping and changing venues where there is a lack of experienced precedent seems to me a recipe for disaster and it sounds as though it was. Poor Princess Anne, having to be there for 4 hours! The whole scenario is utterly incredible. As for Hayley, let's hope some of the NZ press pick up the fact that the girl some twit describes as being a star "only in her imagination" headlines "whoopsadaisy she actually is" Peter S.

I like their underlying caption. "Classical singer Hayley Westenra added some class to the evening." This seems to imply that my horror at some of the "garb" some performers draped themselves in is shared by whoever put up this picture. Lovely girls I'd love to meet on the beach but dressed like that for a RVP? Peter S.

Hello Peter! I've now added the caption to the image in my post. I believe it was written by Lucy Mapstone, editor of MSN Celebrity. Richard
