Hi Libby,
As I said before it is down to personal preference I think. I don't have a down on Baritones, in fact I think I probably have a better opinion of at least one of that ilk (Rhydian) than you do.
But I don't share your dislike of operatic voices either, even though as I have said elsewhere, most of them are not very subtle. I think I can recognise an exceptional voice when I hear one whether or not it has been trained for opera. I also seem to like male operatic voices rather better than female ones.

Okay, so now you're saying that because you don't appreciate Josh Groban's voice, it isn't exceptional? Okay, not to you, but to millions of people around the world, it is. Is Rolando as famous as Josh? He would only appeal to a certain crowd, people who like classical/opera/broadway, mostly. Josh appeals to all kinds of people who like all kinds of music. Even Hayley does that. I like that better.

I seriously think it was just one take, it was such a flawless performance, I edited my post with what I think is evidence XD Hi Simba and everyone! I and a few other HWI members had the pleasure of meeting Valerie from Bandana Management this week at the Southend concert. She is a very nice lady and one of the things I asked her, not very hopefully as she is fairly new, is if she knew if the Hayley and Rolando eight minute sequence was done in one take or not. I'm delighted to say that she was there at the recording, albeit in an unofficial capacity, and she has confirmed that there were no breaks and no re-takes. It was all done in one take, timed to perfection by Hayley, complete with ball gown, high heels - and steps to climb! So if anyone wasn't convinced Simba by your evidence and my comments earlier in the thread, they can now relax - it was an impressive one-take performance so well done Hayley and Rolando! www.hayley-westenra-international.com/content/royal-variety-performance-hayley-rolando-villazon-videosCheers, Dave

For all the Australians out there, the Royal Variety Performance will be shown on Channel Seven 2 (72) at 7:30 this Tuesday night!

Tonight ITV showed their tribute to "100 years of the Royal Variety Performance". Hayley was visible (on the balcony with Rolando) for approximately 1 second in a 1 hour show. Katherine Jenkins got rather more exposure. Worth watching on the player if you missed it.

I don't suppose anyone recorded this year's performance show? I'm dying to see Ashleigh & Pudsey's performance! The only one I can find is from an audience member's recording, and it's not a very good view at all!

Well found Richard, I could have obtained a recording of the RVP but you've saved me that job! I missed the actual show but enjoyed watching the Pudsey clip. Cheers, Dave

There was a few seconds of that (Ashleigh and Pudsey) on the 100 years show too.

Yay, thank you Richard!! I think that's one of their best performances! Balancing on her shoulders at the end, and even incorporating other dancers with Pudsey, rather than having them just in the background like before. And he is sooo cute and happy-looking throughout the whole thing! I'll definitely be posting this on FB tonight!
