Hi Folks, VOCALISING There are some great examples of this type of technique on Adiemus, ( Karl Jenkins ) Songs of sanctuary 1995. Miriam Stockley on vocals. There is also an explanation of it in the sleeve notes.

I used to play that CD a lot when I bought my first house 10 years ago- good music to play in the background when you invite folks round for dinner. i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gif You can also hear the "vocalising" effect in other music including some pieces by 'Clannad'. "Vocalising" is a technique which can be used to achieve an overall effect or "imitation" of sound. Our Choral used "vocalising" to emulate singing in Russian when we performed 'The Bells' by Rachmaninov during a concert! Learning to sing in Russian within a short timescale proved to be quite tricky, so the intention was for us to achieve an overall "impression" of the right kind of sound! Back on topic now... I'm really looking forward to seeing 'Flood'. I'm really pleased that Hayley has been involved with the Soundtrack. Andrew

Hi everyone, While on the subject of vocalising I must mention again the fabulously beautiful rendition by Hayley of Scarborough Fair performed & televised in Melbourne by the HeraldSun.
Anybody who didn't manage to download that video clip while it was available, please PM me & I'll give you a link from which you can download it.
It is an absolute classic !!!!!!! The identical performance of SF I was treated to at Readings Melbourne about one hour afterwards. Unforgettable ............Graeme

Not content with the comments of the album sleeve, I decided to contact the composer.
I received this reply today:
PS In large print for Richard!
PPS There are still plenty of seats available at Cadogan Hall

I have just received my CD today and I like Debbie Wiseman's compositions, especially those containing Hayleys lovely voice. The CD sleeve booklet is well worth reading and has 3 pages devoted to Hayley. But I also enjoyed the part about Debbies involvement with the movie. Here is an extract about Hayley:-
(Michael Beek) - Of course Hayley Westenra provides the vocals in the score... what is it about her voice that struck you as being right for Flood?
(Debbie) - She's got an incredible beauty to her voice - it's so pure and haunting. I didn't want to use something that sounded very operatic or overly "sung" and so for me her voice just sounds like another instrument, it's used as part of the orchestra, it's a colour, but it's the most beautiful colour because it's so individual and distinctive. I think what's lovely about her voice is that it manages to be very emotional without trying too hard. She can sing the most simple phrase, yet the way she phrases it and the way she delivers it invests it with a beauty that gives it extra life.
Well I think Debbie describes Hayleys voice better than I ever could.

Bullseye, Debbie has hit the nail squarley on the head comet

I agree Ross and Comet An incredibly vivid description that seems to cover everything we've been trying to put into words since the forum began! I'm going to print it out to keep handy for easy reference! Best wishes Grant

Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee........................ Debbie's words have lifted a great burden from my mind. I thought I might be going mad (Madder ?) I could not figure out why I was happy listening to any Hayley song. It didn't matter which song it was, I was happy listening to it, I wasn't trying to get to the next one or the next album, whatever was playing was fine with me as long as Hayley was singing. Therefore it was about the sound of her voice and not the song or the word or the arrangement of the music, Just the sound of her voice. Oh I am pleased . I can go back to work now. comet

Thanks Drew, Ross, Comet, Grant. I'm with you all.
There are some things in life that are so beautiful that "words fail me" just has to be said. (Indescribable)
One of those things is Hayley's voice. When I first heard her sing I was straight into tears....thats never happened to me before.

Very well put, Debbie! Now I can understand why some professional reviewers completely miss the point about Hayley's voice. They simply don't bother to listen closely enough. Best Wishes, Richard

Hi Folks. All this talk of vocalising has made me order Flood from Amazon today and it made me take out The New World again, as far as I know there is a bit of vocalising going on on track 10 Winter - Battle

Hello everyone, Flood (the DVD) was released in the UK last week and today, it has entered the main video/DVD chart at no. 6! This means many tens of thousands of sales, far more than this week's no. 6 CD in the album chart (which sold 25,000) I'll try and work out a better estimate later today. It also means that is sure to be available to buy in all major Supermarkets so I am off out in a minute to buy a copy! It will be interesting to see if this boosts Hayley's CD sales at all, over the next few weeks TOP 40 VIDEOS CHART :: CHART WEEK ENDING DATE 10/Nov/07This week (last week) - Title - Company 01 (NE) DIE HARD 4.0 - 20TH CENTURY FOX HE 02 (01) SPIDER-MAN 3 - SONY PICTURES HE 03 (02) DIRTY DANCING - LIONSGATE 04 (NE) DIE HARD QUADRILOGY - 20TH CENTURY FOX HE 05 (08) HOT FUZZ - UNIVERSAL PICTURES 06 (NE) FLOOD - LIONSGATE 07 (11) CASINO ROYALE - SONY PICTURES HE 08 (06) 300 - WARNER HOME VIDEO 09 (07) FANTASTIC 4 - RISE OF THE SILVER SURFER - 20TH CENTURY FOX HE 10 (5) FAMILY GUY - SEASON 6 - 20TH CENTURY FOX HE Dave
