Hi everyone. While we are waiting for the other side of the world to tell us what is going on at the start of the Hayley NZ tour I have at last got round to playing the Rieu set. Frankly I would have bought it purely for the Hayley video. This really brings out how her voice has matured. It brings out the clarity and developing richness of depth that she is increasingly acquiring. Now I am playing the CD, which is fine background music by the nature of the waltz and I have always loved the waltz. I just wish one of my two left feet had been a right one! Knowing my luck were that the case it would probably be the wrong foot! I love the Rieu background that it was Queen Victoria, reputed for never being amused, who set people dancing as they should. It was she who, publicly expressing her love for Albert through dance, took the waltz from the condemnatory attitude of the Catholic church into the realm of the every day. Rather than never being amused it increasingly appeared she was really a fun girl at heart and it was only her broken heart over Albert's death that brought on the latter reputation for sourness. Any way. Come on Kiwis I stayed up specially for your first reports. Peter S.

Hi Joyce,
Not a good review. If the reviewer wants to attack with such venom he/she should at least get their facts straight.

Yes that is without doubt the product of a preconceived prejudice. I am not sure if the writer is referring to Strauss per se or interpretations of Strauss subsequently. There is indeed an interpretation of Strauss as the showman and as the showman Rieu I think re-awakens the original interpretation. There are without doubt two different styles of Strauss interpretation. The writer has his own view which is not Rieu's and from that point of view has simply projected his personal angst. This is not a professionally competent review. Peter S.

Ouch! I disagree very strongly with the reviewer. And he/she didn't even put his/her name to it. Even worse, there is no facility for reader comments. A very cowardly attack on a very popular artist. Oh, and according to the album sleeve notes, Andre Rieu wrote "Dreaming of NZ" not Anthony Hopkins.
That IS what Stauss is about in my view. His music was intended to be a little bit informal and fun, not to be taken too seriously - and Hayley's vocal and I might add personality fits well with that. If the classical purist snobs don't like it, that is their problem, but judging by Andre Rieu's album sales, he must have got something right.

Wow, that must be hard to be deprived of Hayley music! I hope you get better soon! I'm deprived too, but on purpose, because I have to wait for Jai's album in December, to save money. Thank you Libby! My ears seem to be clearing now which is good- everything seems a lot louder and clearer than I remember both with and without my hearing aids which is great news , - it means the syringing is doing what it's supposed to have done this time but they're still very sore I was going to keep away from the forum until they're completely better- that worked out well didn't it? That's a good idea to wait to get two albums together to save money, particularly these days, although it's bound to be rather difficult but definitely worth it in the end- It's good that December isn't too far away now! Best wishes Sing

I understand the point of reviews, but I think this one really is terrible- too personal and unnessessary but then again, I don't think too many people take a lot of notice, or at least I hope not, Andre Rieu's album sales are proof of that! best wishes Sing

Guess what? I got the album today!! Even though I selected not to get them separately, because it costs more, they sent it to me anyway, with no extra charge! Wasn't that nice of them? And there wasn't even any plastic wrap on the CD for me to struggle with. i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gif I always worry about scratching the CD with the scissors, if I have to resort to using them. Can't wait to listen!

Watched the video and loved it, really! And I am so happy, as this is great for her promotion. On the other hand, as soon as I get to talk to Ezequiel, I will ask him what is the gighest note on that recording, so watch the update on the Highest Note thread.

Whether the song contains her highest note or not, I do think it contains some of her prettiest notes. This song completely satisfies the gorgeous, classical high notes that I've always enjoyed from Hayley (not that I don't enjoy any note she sings). It's been a while since she's sung something like this. Actually, this is probably the only one that came close for my ears! I've really been waiting for a song like this! I think the last time was One Fine Day, but I like how Hayley's voice sounds in this one better. Also, Summer Rain. Some of her prettiest notes. Actually, that reviewer is right about one thing; it does kind of remind me of Now is the Hour and O Mio Babbino Caro, now that he suggested it. But I don't consider that to be a bad thing.

The moment I heard Dreaming of Newzealand, Now is the hour was the song that came to my mind, well because "Dreaaming of Neww Zeaaaaland" is almost the same as "Noooow is the Hour"....(as far as the melody is concerned..XD) And as it goes into the song, it has some very similar bits to O Mio Babbino's ending.... Well, listening to the song alone(without the video again), it's not a favourite for me or anything, very ordinary song, and sounds artificially over-produced, the reverb I think. I mean the voice sounds so synthetic when they aimed to create a dreamy feel I think...it makes it SSSSSSSSS....which is not quite the same feel as in Summer Rain, where a similar effect is tried and achieved perfectly, voice still had it's originality. I don't know because of this it makes it hard for me to listen to the song more than once at a time.... I think, this song would sound better with the voice crystal clear( as it is in reality), without much edits..., I really love the melody of the "bridge" of the song, gives a nice hair raising feeling. The last note was unbelievable as we all mentioned Wish she performs it live! (BTW all this is only an opinion, dun wanna argue XD)

But Simba,
That would not be Andre Rieu. His music is sugar sweet, some find it sickly sweet I'm sure. That is just how he is, but lots of people love it and he sells records by the ton.
Hayley, as always, fits in with whatever she is asked to do. And there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. She makes her voice fit the prevailing mood perfectly. And for we Hayley purists, there are some wonderful high (and long) notes to get excited about. I would not rate it as anywhere near my favourite Hayley song, but it is enjoyable and was worth the price of the album.

Yeah, I probably wouldn't call it my favorite song, either. I also think it's a little longer than it really needs to be, since it's fairly repetitive, but I do enjoy it very much. And sometimes when you enjoy a song that you're listening to, you don't mind if it lasts kind of long.

Hello folks! This video doesn't feature Hayley, but it's worth a look. This is a live performance of the title track "And The Waltz Goes On", which was written by Welsh actor Sir Anthony Hopkins: www.youtube.com/watch?v=M57Fi19vcSIRichard
