With all due respect, the classical albums chart means next to nothing. There are some weeks when you only need to sell a couple of hundred to top it. Sorry, I know you were only trying to be positive, <3, but chart positions don't mean much when they don't translate to sales. This album is selling really poorly, especially with all the exposure she has been getting. Mary-Jess's album did just as well as this one and she wasn't even on supermarket shelves, wasn't on the classical chart and didn't receive 10% of the promotion Laura got. :/ It's just not taking off for Laura, in my opinion. Hi Nicola and all, I don't think low sales are necessarily a problem for classical albums, as long as the production distribution and promotional costs don't exceed the eventual income. Decca, DG etc. are known for making profits on the low sales of a lot of classical artists each spread over many years - the question is, will Laura have a recording career lasting for many years to enable that to happen in her case? I think at this stage we don't know, of course I hope she will, but her next album will obviously be important. Also, I wouldn't go so far as to say as you did that some weeks the classical no. 1 sells only a couple of hundred and if this has ever happened, I'm pretty sure it would have been a very unusual occurrence. More typically I'd say they were in the low thousands for the no. 1 and last week, with new releases from Russell and Laura, the top 2 sold around 18,000 and 3,000 respectively so decent sales do occur even at this low-selling time of year. Some weeks, the pop no. 1 only sells around 20,000 these days. Laura as you suggest sold 2,885 in week 1 and probably another 1,500+ this week i.e. week 2. For comparison, Hayley will have sold around 35,000 Paradisos in the UK. Cheers, Dave

Yes, I know. My concern stems from the fact that Laura has had promotion overdrive. She's been everywhere. From where I am sitting, this album has cost a lot more than it has made back so far.
I think Decca are expecting Laura to be the next Katherine Jenkins and have given her the exposure to have the opportunity to be as such. I wouldn't rule this out just yet; Katherine started out quite slow (though her debut hit number one in the classical charts, it wouldn't be until albums three and four that she really started to become a household name). Alfie Boe is also an example of somebody starting a recording career very modestly (he, like Laura, started of as a Classic FM artist).
I want Laura to continue, (yes, I would much rather it be All Angels but no use crying over spilt milk) but for me, Decca needs to recognise her strengths and weaknesses, which I don't think they have done so far. If she sticks to her strengths, she would be among my favourite singers, very easily.

I am sure you are right about this album Nicola, the sales are indeed disappointing, given all the promotion it's had. We can but hope for better next time.

Yes, I like Laura. I hope they remember that her EP is currently the best selling single in the UK this year. And that she (along with Hayley) was chosen to perform on it - two songs no less. Don't know why the album didn't do better - nothing wrong with it.
I really hope she will get another chance. but perhaps she will need to be more imaginative and original.

Hi everyone,
It's sad that Laura's album did not sell more, I think its great, I'm currently trying to learn all of the songs! I hope she releases another album, she has a great voice.

Laura performed a concert on 1st August 2012 at the Capitol - Classic FM building in Leicester Square in aid of the Classic FM Foundation. The concert took place on the rooftop terrace.
Here are a few photo's, there are more on Laura's Forum HERE. There were thirty guests, including Martin, Gordon, Dazza and Myself. We were shown around the studios and saw John Suchet presenting his show and bumped into Myleene Klass on the stairs. It was a great evening out and we got to spent some time with Laura after the concert.Steve H

Hi everyone,
Great pictures. I have a ticket to see Laura at St James' Church and I was wondering if anyone from here was going too? also do you think there will be a chance to meet her afterwards? I'm excited to hear her sing live!

Hi Susie Yes, I'm going and I believe that Dazza from the Laura Wright forum is also hoping to attend. There will almost certainly be an opportunity to meet Laura after the concert for signings, photos and a chat.
Best Wishes Martin

Hi all, Finally got around to listening to the whole of my copy of the Jubilee album -- I know, I know -- talk about being late to the party! i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gif (I just originally listened to Hayley's track). I'm really impressed by Laura Wright - going to check out some of her stuff. Cheers, Jillian
